So a year ago I bought some mythos ST speakers. I loved them for 2 channel which was most important for me. Life happens and I had to sell them to help pay for surgery for my cat. I got a great deal on them and even made a few extra hundred when we parted ways. So now I'm looking at the new ST-L 's or the Revel f208's.. I listen to EVERYTHING but Hip hop/rap (sorry Kanye) and club music. What's your thoughts. I hear real good things about Revel and am going Saturday to listen to them. I'm also considering Paradigm studio 100's. I can get any of the above for around 3500 and paradigms for a little less. So that's the budget. Thanks!

Heard the big triton's I liked them but the wife hates how they look. As these are in our family room I have to respect that. It's all she asks. I had considered Tekton as well but would probably lose that battle unless I spring for better veneer or custom finishing. But would still be in the budget with how low the staring point is on those

I've read a lot of great things on the f208. Another option that definitely passes WAF is the Martin Logan ESL, I demoed a pair at BB and they are fantastic, but have a limited sweet spot

I highly recommend them . Let me know what do think. Also, look at what amp and preamp they use.

I've never heard the F208's (would like to!) but I have a buddy with a pair of F32s that are very similar to the F208 from what I've read. Very nice sounding speaker IMO. No obvious shortcomings with them and they play quite low.

Dynaudio Focus 160s, Ascend Acoustics' speakers, used Harbeth monitors.
Everyone raves about the KEF LS50s, but I haven't heard those.

The F208 is a really good speaker. I highly recommend them . Let me know what do think. Also, look at what amp and preamp they use. I am planning on getting an Xmc-1. Are they very power hungry? Obviously within the Emotiva line they sound best with the XPR line of amps. With the XPR-5 or XPR-2 they sound amazing. My buddy has the XPR-1s and they sound amazing with those too . IMHO, I feel you gotta go XPR line to complete this picture. It's truly high end with this combo and with Dirac, it's hard to top without spending a lot more $$. The F208 is very smooth but very revealing as well. The little bit of edginess on the top end of the XPA line (I've had the XPA-5 and XPA-2 gen2) can easily be heard on the F208. The only other caveat. Bad recordings are tough to listen to bc the great recordings sound so much better in comparison.

If you love Maggie's but they don't work in your room, get them and a new room! I would also consider Vandersteens and would consider waiting through March to see what Emo announces on speakers. It sounds like an announcement is imminent, and they have made some amazing speakers in the past. When they have passive speakers again, I think they will be game changers. Mark

I agree with Mark on the Emotiva Reference line. I have 7 of the Reference speakers (ERM-1's in the bedroom). If they come up with something that sounds better I'm all in. The ERM-6.2's are very good - WHY would they discontinue that line?
I know - I know - I sound like a broken record when it comes to the Reference line - I owned the ERT-8.3s for 6 years and loved them. But they got in the way of my relatively small living room - no place for them with the 2 DIY 12" subs. Can't wait to see/hear what Dan and Co. come up with in the next speaker line. I'll be interested in the bookshelf speakers.

I have no interest in starting the same old debate of debates concering amps I'm just curious how you arrived at your statement. If you have a 4000 USD speaker budget I guess go XPR.

I'm looking for speakers as well and I auditioned the goldenear triton 7 but it was in a terrible room but I been meaning to schedule a appointment at another dealer to give a fair shake because I was amazed how fast the lower end is with them . Also they goldenear triton 5 should be at the dealers in mid March and I hear really good stuff about them. Someone on audiogon had some Gallo cl3 and cl4 new for a decent price but I never heard them . Tekton has a sale on pendragon right now for I think under 2k free shipping .
