.......if the XMC-1 continues to sell well and sales don't drop off and they make a good profit, then and only then do I think we will see an XMR-1. Disagree with this one I believe that the demand for an XMC-1 (Gen 2?) that supports 4K, HDMI 2.0, HDCP 2.2, DTS-X and Atmos would be far greater than the demand for an XMR-1. Priority wise it's a no brainer. There's also a replacement for the UMC-200 urgently required, but that I'd hold off until the 4K, HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2 hardware and software is rock solid and affordable. My view is that an XMR-1 would be way down on the product development priorities, even just in processors alone. Cheers Gary We certainly don't disagree. I agree that an XMC-2 with the things you mention seems much more viable to me. I mentioned it extensively in a post above (like using the Zone 1 & 2 outputs to get the extra height channels for Atmos). I was just saying that if the XMC-1 (or XMC-2) has strong continuous sales for the next 2 years, then Emotiva might be compelled to have a go at an over the top deluxe processor. If the sales of the XMC-1 decline drastically in 2016, then I think they will at least rethink things, and the odds of the XMR-1 happening will diminish. Only time will tell.

Kind of like if Honda, Nissan,or Toyota came out with an expensive line of cars, right? Oh, wait, they did...Acura, Infiniti, and Lexus. Of course, they created a new brand name. I wonder what will transpire with Emotiva vs. Emersa vs....? So far, they are different price points and different target markets. Hmmm... Mark +1. True. But has Emotiva not tried this twice already? They sold the Sherbourn label as professional gear, but in reality, it was not a whole lot more than the same Emotiva products with a different look. Didn't work. And then the XPR amps..... Just saying. Not saying it can't be done. Look at Kia and Hyundai. 10 years ago they were considered inexpensive and cheap. Then 5 years ago they were relatively inexpensive and good. Now they are approaching moderately priced and true contenders. There may well come a day when they are considered the best cars on the planet. So it's possible for sure. I'm just saying that for a company known for making killer amps and good processors under the $1000 mark, to all of a sudden make a product that costs $5000+ is a big jump. A jump that will require different cliental to succeed, because a large number of Emotiva's current cliental won't be able to afford it.

While you folks do bring up a valid point. I want an xmr. I sold my Krell Foundation because I was so thrilled I could get super high end sound for much less than super high end prices. So in that way they are still sticking with the plan.

I did a little investigation to see what all the brewhaha was here and why Bonzo has been so angry of late. This all seems to have started Feb 26, 2015. The same day as this thread was started. In a Thread named "XMC-1 update from Big Dan" Dan made a post giving an update on the XMC-1. Folks were asking if there was not a more advanced processor coming and Dan decided to give some information on processors in development. He said there were several in development and one of them would be 16 channels and have Atmos and DTS-X. He named it the new XMR-1. Novisnick saw that and wanted to mate it with his XPR amps so they could have babies. Nick started this thread with "is it soup yet" and here we are. Along with the processor in development that was named XMR-1 was another that was not named. It was a baby 7.1 processor that was 1R tall and had 1R tall amps to go with it. Sound familiar ? There was some discussion of the price on this top of the line unit named XMR-1 and Dan came back to give everyone the anticipated price at right at $5000. That was a year ago and the 1R tall Emersa 7.1 processor and amps were on display at CES 2016. Lonnie told a participant at CES that final testing was being performed on the Emersa 7.1 and they should be released second quarter of this year. If you can not hold it in, go use the bathroom. Just because something is not released and available when you expect it to be does not mean that it was all a lie. Now back to one of the other processor in development that Dan spoke of Feb 26, 2016. I think the one that was not spoke of is the Base X processor that they said in the podcast will be coming out promptly after the Emersa line. They did not say the end of 2016 or 2017 like Bonzo said. This taking a stab at Emotiva with they are never on time because of the XMC-1 is getting old. So the processor named XMR-1 is no more because they discontinued the XPR amplifiers ? Is this the logic ? Are you upset that you have not heard any definite information about this ? Has this effected your life in a negative way and caused you harm ? I sure hope you are not stressing about this. This is just beginning. You are not going to miss anything. Yes there are very rich people that will have 16 channels and Atmos in there home before you do. You will just have to live with that. Myself, I got lucky and the processor I want from Emotiva is soon to be released. I wish the Emersa 7.1 was only 5.1 but you can't win them all. Your post cracks me up. Me thinks you are the pot calling the kettle black. No one here is upset or angry as you say (at least not me for sure, even though you are certainly calling me out specifically), we are just having a conversation / debate regarding things involving the XMR-1. What's wrong with that? This thread is 20+ pages long, yet you are acting like it's something new that everyone is in an uproar about. Where have you been? It seems to me you are the one getting your panties in a bunch because you don't like it when theorize and speculate about things that we don't know facts on. Only die hard facts will do for you. Either that or your blind faith Emotiva Fan Boyism is showing through. I supposed what we should do then is just shut this thread down, and never come back to this topic until Emotiva actually announces something? Heck, we might as well shut the entire forum down because all the facts can just come from Emotiva's website, right? No point in us having fun here debating things and/or sharing our opinions back and forth. You are also twisting things around and not reading them thoroughly. Maybe that's why you are upset, because you are reading into things that aren't there? As an example, "They did not say the end of 2016 or 2017 like Bonzo said." If you'll actually read my full post, that entire paragraph was an attempt to answer your question with a guess. I clearly said that I was guessing but you must have overlooked that. I never said Emotiva said anything. I gave you the best answer I could give you, which was my speculated guess, but then you twisted it to act like I was quoting gospel or lying. If our discussion is upsetting you, perhaps you might just avoid this thread from here on out. I think you are finding anger and stress when there isn't any.

I think it would be an awesome product! As it is, we can only speculate. Only Emotiva can decide whether it's something they think they can make money at doing. Not our call. Only time will tell. But I think we should be able to speculate and debate it, no? Sorry if I offend those people who live their lives with the glass always full. I tend to live it in reality and learning from past experiences. For me different situations dictate different outlooks. Sometimes the glass is half full, and sometimes it's half empty. Like Nick, I can go both ways.

I've had it with the Lounge! I will continue to be an observer, but I will not contribute any more. I posted on what I was looking for in a new processor some pages back and every sentence I wrote was parsed and made fun of. I am retired and my budget for this hobby is lower than when I was working, but I have been interested in entertainment electronics for most of my life. Big Dan has a company stated philosophy that impressed me, and still does. I have had favorite companies before in the past, Dynaco, Audio Alchemy, and Carver, all companies who produced cutting edge products at affordable prices. I am not interested in a company that produces commonly available featured products that everyone else is also producing and I am not interested in price is no object products like Krell, Datasat, and others because I am an engineer by trade and I only respect engineering that is done to a price point. Anything not developed to a price point is not being designed as a competitive product but as a show case statement affordable to the very few who can afford it and who will pay any price to be the person with the most advanced stuff on the planet. That is not me. I will buy Emotiva products again when they suit me and if I am still alive and I can afford them. But I have no desire to argue with others about what I like and don't, and apparently there is no appreciation from others about what I like or don't like either. I get it! Have a nice day!

I posted on what I was looking for in a new processor some pages back and every sentence I wrote was parsed and made fun of. Wow. I'm not sure what you read into my post (since I'm the only one who directly quoted you), so I went back and re-read what I wrote just now. I don't see anything that represents "parsed and made fun of." I certainly didn't mean to do that, so I'm sorry you took it that way. Please let me know specifically what you are referring to and then maybe I could rewrite my post on that point to better relate what I was trying to say. If on the other hand you think all my separate points were parsing and making fun of you, then, well, perhaps you should take some time away and regroup as they say.

I just want to apologize if anyone thought I was attacking them.
I just want Emotiva to know that their is a market for this product. I will be buying one as soon as it is for sale.
It just sounded to me like what you were saying is Emo shouldn't even consider this. It goes against the policies. But really the policy has been great value products. I believe this will still be a great value to those that can afford it.
And the speculation about a launch date for me came from the Dtsx press release. So it said quarter 1 2016

Speculation, speculation, speculation... Want my opinion? A 16-channel XMR-1 with Dirac Unison on board would sound better than anything currently available hence would do wonders for the brand as a whole. No matter how many speakers you use with it. (I would use 16!) Dirac Unison

A jump that will require different cliental to succeed, because a large number of Emotiva's current cliental won't be able to afford it. As I look at Emotiva's past, they were focused on 3 price tiers (Ultra, X-series, and R-series). Tiering on price is a tough sell in a lot of businesses...there needs to be more behind it than price, although a lot of tiering ties in some way to price. Some of the best tiering ties to lifestyle...so, think high-end camping gear aimed at people who fancy themselves at the next person to climb Everest (even though the highest they may climb in the Empire State Building). And, low end/basic camping gear aimed at the occasional weekend camper who have differing requirements and different interest in paying a little. They added the Studio part of their Pro line and added Sherbourn which was more in line with home installation networks. These branched into special niches...and they appear to be sticking with their studio business and have gotten into home installers more as they expand their B&M business relationship. With Emersa, they are targeting a different consumer with a line that is dramatically different in look/feel/use...even though there is technology reapplication. Who knows what else is next. They have said there will be some type of Ultra line...will it be targeted just at price or something else? We shall see. Same for the reference line. Mark

We do know what is next.
My quote from another thread.
"They said in the last Podcast Dec 23, 2015 that soon after the new XPA Gen 3 and Emersa Line is out and available they will have a new Entry Level Line called Base X (Basic X Series). Preamp, Proccesor, CD Transport, and a whole series of Stereo and Multi channel amplifiers. They said they were a big improvement on the Ultra Series and the most expensive product in the line will be $599. Looks just like the Gen 3 products so you can mix and match."
Dan's quote from the thread 'XMC-1 update from Big Dan' Feb 26, 2015.
"2. The are several new processors in development right now. I'd spoken about this at CES, so its not a secret. We have a 16 channel Atmos enabled unit in development and it will be the new XMR-1. It will have a new T.I. 800 Series six core processing engine with enough power to handle Atmos, DTS-X, and whatever else is thrown at us. It is completely balanced on ALL channels and will go head to head with ANY processor on the market today, or tomorrow. It goes without saying it will ship with Dirac Live for Emotiva on all channels, and soon after release, we will be able to offer Dirac Unison. If you haven't heard of it yet, search it on Dirac's site. The new XMR-1 is going to be a monster. Made in Franklin, TN USA"

Coordinate rather than interfereBased on ideas from the fields of active noise control, sound field synthesis and room correction, Dirac Unison® uses precise measurements to create an active acoustic treatment of the listening space. Expanding on Dirac Live, Dirac Unison® not only optimizes each speaker’s individual impulse and frequency response, it actually co-optimizes the impulse and frequency responses of all speakers within the entire sound system. This unique approach enables new degrees of precision while minimizing in-seat and between-seat sound quality variations. Dirac Unison also features a completely new kind of bass management that automatically adapts to the room and speakers. By co-optimizing up to a certain frequency, sound systems can deliver a bass response that is more unified and tighter than previously thought possible in a car. before: after, with With Dirac Unison® 14.2 Setup: So Dirac Unison is already working with 16 channels (be it apparently in a Volvo)

I just want to apologize if anyone thought I was attacking them. I really haven't read anything in this thread where anyone is attacking anyone else. Just expressing opinions, I think, worldwide, the PC crowd and those that look for personal insult everywhere are taking over what used to be called free speech. As you are fully entitled to do, similarly as I am entitled to express the opinion that, just in processors alone, Emotiva should have other priorities. Excellent, even if I am not interested in the product itself, the trickle down of technology will end up in the areas that I am interested in. I can't speak for others but my comments are about priorities, most certainly not what shouldn't be considered. Personally I think Emotiva has all but abandoned that policy, for example in Australia we have seen the prices more than doubled. That's due to the introduction of retail outlets and the pricing that goes along with that, plus the cessation of the UFL and EClub discount. "Good value", maybe, time will tell, but "great value" I'm afraid is long gone. Cheers Gary

There's something that I'd like to see on the XMR-1 (and all Emotiva Processors for that matter), it's analogue bass management when in Reference Stereo. Plus whenever an analogue stereo source is being used without DIRAC. That's the main reason why I have a USP-1 (XMC-1 on the way), the ability to do effective bass management while in the analogue domain. If this feature was included in a processor it would mean that I could happily live without a dedicated stereo pre amp.
Cheers Gary
