Update : I ordered the 2 capacitors a while ago, replaced them today . And it works! yey, Thanks everybody . I just use it for the stereo downmix and then connect it to my headphone amplifier. I hope it will never die (because I can't find a similar (affordable) device )

Hello all,
Mine is in the infinite loop stage and i want to measure the voltages before and after.. I will post in a few. I'll probably parallel a smaller value just for the hell of it. Thank you all for your suggestions!!!

I just had the same thing happen to me last night. Called Emotiva tech support today and have to send it in for repair. They said it sounds like a power supply issue and will be covered under warranty. I will pack it up tonight and ship UPS tomorrow. You must use the original packing boxes to ship the unit or they will refuse the unit. Glad I kept all my packing from my Emotiva equipment.

Received my UMC 200 back from Emotiva yesterday from repairs due to the screen stuck on Loading... They replaced several Capacitors and said they used different and larger capacity units to combat the problem. They also verified that the latest firmware was in the unit. I will be hooking it back up either tonight or tomorrow. Hoping this corrected the issue

Not a problem since. Cheers Gary

I had the same problem c18 & c19 on my Umc200. After paying to send both upa700 & umc200 back, I sold both and replaced with Anthem MRX 510. No issues since.

I just received mine back from EMOTIVA and hooked it back up last night. They replaced c7,18,19 Caps on the power supply and said they used larger upgraded Caps that cure the problem. They also ensured I had the latest firmware update. My warranty is up in December so I hope this is a permanent fix. I did hook it up and had to re calibrate everything which was no problem. It works flawlessly now. Thanks to EMOTIVA for addressing the issue timely. Glad to have it back.

Comparable problem here. As per Emitiva’s instructions, I’ve replaced three capacitors on the psu. But, when I check the Voltages on the PSU to make sure everything works like it should, I only measure +/-5V where it should. I don’t measure +/-12V anywhere on the PSU pcb. Can somebody confirm this? Is something else wrong?
The unit powers up like it did (very short load time, as though only part of the code is loaded - used to take about 5sec to start, now less than one). I don’t want to try to reload the firmware until I know it’s safe to do so.
Hope someone can shed some light on this.
Thanks!
James.

Appreciate the info. My UMC 200 was stuck in Loading loop this morning. Luckily I have a bunch of caps lying around for audio/guitar/fx projects. My C18 & C19 capacitors were both 330uf stock. They must have upgraded C19 to the 1000uf at some point after I purchased my unit.
I soldered in a 470uf 35v to C18, and 1000uf 35v to C19. Powered up the unit, and it was working again. Now about 8 hours on the fix and no issues.

This sounds an awful lot like the power source problem that I had with my UMC-200. I sent it in for repair and if I'm remembering correctly, they replaced C18 & C19 in the power supply. Give tech support a call on Monjday. Same repair was needed on my machine.

I followed the PIC above but there are many different options to choose from even with those specific numbers and even choosing Nichicon brand. Just finished and it now works and the various problems are gone... so far, anyway. I took a pic of the exact caps I used and purchased from Mouser.com

My UMC-200 was sent back to Emotiva about 4 years ago for the fix to the power supply (C18/C19 capacitors). Problem returned again this last month and following instructions in this thread, unit has been revived. And, I think, the upgrade to the caps has provided an improvement in terms of switch on and usage. Thanks to those providing this info as this has added another year or so to the life of my existing system before I will consider going 4k TV. B I G T H A N K S ! ! !

Hello everyone, registered an account just to send a thank you, and provide some additional info.
My UMC-200 has risen from the dead. I booted it up about two weeks ago and was stuck at the never ending Loading... screen with no video, nothing. Began my research and came upon this page. The unit otherwise ran my system great, fantastic pass-through, no noticeable latency when running my PC through it. It was way too soon to give up on it. Plus, I've found nothing else in its class that works as well, and supports 100-240v input, which is important since I relocate often.
I don't have a capacitance tester, so can't be certain, but I believe the faulty cap may be the C19, which in my case was a DECON. Researching on DECON reveals no good things, so replacing it with a equally rated Nichicon was a no-brainer. Incidentally this same power supply is apparently used in the Nakamichi AV1, and similar problems have been reported on those units power boards.
Anyway, here's the values of the three capacitors to replace:
Nichicon
C7 47μF 25v 105°c C18 330μF 16v 105°c C19 1000μF 16v 105°c
I also reached out to Emotiva and they got back to me fairly quickly with the info on replacing the noted capacitors. I thought I'd post the additional picture they sent me of testing points for voltage and the full info on cap C7.
Thanks everyone.

This is what I have received today from Emotiva: "We now possibly have several problems (power supply and software) Please do not try any further attempts at firmware upgrading until the power supply has been repaired. 2 small capacitors must be changed on the small power supply board. They are labeled C18 and C19 I am sending pictures of these caps, values and locations, so that you can remedy the repair. Hopefully after the repair your unit maybe fine, if not then you can try to updated the firmware again Joe Laliberte, Sr. Service Manager Emotiva Audio Corporation " I really don't mind fixing it myself. These capacitors worth pennies. I think that Emotiva run out of supply boards (UMC-200 is no longer on production line). Anyway, if someone is not able fixing it - always could take the power board to a reliable technician. Thanks for sharing. This just started happening on my UMC-200. Mine does eventually boot up after showing "loading..." for a long time, but it doesn't produce any sound. Hopefully the cap replacement will fix it. I ordered the 330uf 16v and 1000uf 16v capacitors on Amazon, will install when they arrive on Tuesday.

I sent mine into Emotiva back in Aug of 2014 for this issue, and it's been working great since ... then just today, the problem returned (5 years, 6 weeks later). I'm hoping they'll replace the power supply PCB under the 5 year warranty, but we'll see.
I opened it up and took a look at the PCB. Capacitors C12 and C18 are bulging on the tops. C19 and C7 both look normal ... I suppose if Emotiva can't replace the part under warranty, I should just replace C7, C12, C18 and C19?
Anyone know the value for C12?

The “value” of a working c12 is extraordinary!😁 The cost of it and to replace it is another story! 😋
