Not sure I get it. I get the spend/make money opposite part but is that the joke? All I was trying to point out is that there might be costs to informing people that can be justified by the benefit of getting people informed. I hope that clears it up. Oh I didn't think somebody would actually challenge my thought simply because it's absurd and your terrible metaphor shows it. By the way it wasn't Bono it was Jeremy Rifkin Mr "Save the Planet" himself (not a popstar who hasn't been relevant for years) and it went something like he's relentlessly flying/travelling from country to country to persuade politicians in person of the necessity to save/protect the climate. If you can't see how absurd that is then I can't help you. Now your analogy is terrible because money is infinite and can be produced endlessly (not talking physical cash of course). You could argue that in your scenario it's a companys viewpoint and for that company money is not infinite well it's still terrible because in that scenario you spend money to get more money in the end which only hurts your balance sheet (and thats the worst case scenario). To wreck the planet and its limited resources with the idea that that will save it (or even make it better) in the future simply doesn't make any sense. It's like suggesting to a fat person should eat more cake before he/she starts to workout or diet. Doesn't work that way. You start immediately and you should be a rolemodel for others. Having climate conferences all the time and Bono, Geldof DiCaprio or George Clooney jetting around the world does not do sh** (assuming climate change is real), especially climate conferences are costing millions and millions with thousands of people flying to the conference etc etc and they have not achieved anything if you check out climate goals of different countries, Kyoto protocol etc. Capitalism is very smooth and it has swallowed and adapted to climate change and save the planet movements long ago and made it it's own which shows itself in the whole go green movement which is mostly utterly pointless. All these electro cars, producing power with wind, all these idiotic energy ratings on monitors, fridges tvs etc all that sh** is pointless (not the invention but how it's being used). Why you ask? Because it's a zero sum game. Because you cannot decouple economic growth and use of resources. It is impossible to absolutely (vs relatively) unburden the eco sphere under the condition of continual economic growth which is what we have today. The whole thing goes as far as the fact that there is an emission market with pollution contracts/certificats being traded. That is the only thing climate conferences ever achieved. Emission amounts don't change but companies have certificates and other crap to hide behind and the govs make money off of it. Great solution!

Speaking of saving the planet...why are we still closing down nuclear facilities? Let's see, like gasoline, nuclear is extremely efficient. Nuclear is safe just like gasoline, and nuclear is clean just like gasoline.

Sir, in this world they mock my religion daily !! They still mock my Lord and Savior Jesus. I pray he blesses you and your family and all you touch, as well as all of the members of this forum and their family's, I pray that he heals the sick and maimed and those so much less fortunate then us. Thankyou for being hear and adding your voice to this forum. Nick And Fox "News" mocks Climate Change every day. Neither is relevant to the posting of this thread. Thanks for your prayers. Allow me to reciprocate. I hope that you will be enlightened by science and pursue the path of true repeatable knowledge with the power of predictability and proven results. I also hope that the medical knowledge that has resulted from others' pursuit of science will keep you and your family as well as other members of the forum and their families healthy. I hope that we have enough people to continue the difficult pursuit of science to improve our understanding of the human body and nature to make this world a better place for all.

Enjoy your push mower my friend! Squeaky wheels on push mowers have been known to frighten rodents, and nobody needs that. Heaven forbid PETA will come a calling... May I suggest a pair of sharp scissors. Lubricated with your own saliva might I add.....oil is precious. Always wear your protective gear, and if you feel endangered around sharp scissors please relate cause to be dealt with by a qualified professional. Thank you for that suggestion. May I suggest that you keep your car(s) in the garage running at all times with the door to the inside of the house open. That will show them darn tree huggers.

Time to attend to the lawn. Enjoy the music! Just wondering... if you have bald patches on your lawn, would your grass be "folically-challenged"? Oh...because science and political correctness are the same thing. Quite droll.

Hey guys: i found this sculpture, which is called "politicians discussing global warming" Not to enter this fray (as I think the die was cast a long time ago), but for what it's worth, I would like to say that, while I personally can't tell for sure whether the globe is burning, warming, flooding, freezing, thawing, cooking, grilling, toasting,or merely simmering, as we speak, if we were given the opportunity to choose our own preferred endgame scenario, I'd personally be rather partial to the polar bear option in scenario 1, below: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8.

Emission amounts don't change but companies have certificates and other crap to hide behind and the govs make money off of it. Great solution! So, you would inform people about climate change how? There are costs to everything we do. It is not easy to change people's minds - as is evidenced by this thread. But, if you think that no progress has happened on how many people think about the planet, then I suggest you come out from the rock you've living under. Capitalism is not equipped to handle climate change. It is not equipped to handle anything that has an impact much after the action has been performed and where there may be many variables in play. For example, how long did it take us to get lead out of gas or acknowledge that cigarettes cause cancer. And, none of that happened because of capitalism. If it were left to the companies, we'd still be using leaded gas. Yes, economic growth is coupled with the use of resources, however, the resources can be used in a more sustainable way or they cannot. Nobody's saying we should stop growth. What people are saying is that we have to be careful in understand the real COST of that growth. We have a very limited concept of cost because we don't care about the larger, long-term impact of the things we do. And, yes, we can certainly continue to do this for as long as the planet can sustain it. Or, we can try to think a little bit deeper than deliberately wasting resources because we disagree with a notion.

Wow, are you guys really that stupid? You know why they had to change the name to climate change right....because there were people like you guys who just weren't smart enough to figure out that it doesn't matter if you had the coldest winter in history, that's actually a symptom of climate change and not proof that it doesn't exists. Obviously I know nothing I say will change anyone's mind but seriously...in this day and age? David Suzuki (and others) was warning about this 30 years ago and all you can bring up is Al Gore lol. You republicans and going to *bleep* everyone over with your greed and stupidity. Yes, I know this is going to get deleted but jesus christ on a stick man. How can you be so ignorant as to think you know more than basically all the scientists around the world. Let alone the study by your beloved Koch brothers who couldn't even disprove it. Everyone was having a little fun until this. It was not necessary and is why threads get closed. Liking it doesn't help either And then everyone gets hurt feelings and LC has to come in and scold everyone. Same Sh!t, different day Yes, I've been keeping tabs on this thread as the close relation to politics always seems to follow. However, with only a few political personal jabs, it appears that the discussion has more or less remained civil. Just so all of you that are involved in this thread knows, I always hold out hope that we as a Lounge Family can actually have intelligent discussion without lowering ourselves to a level that one has to make personal jabs or insults to make one's self feel superior in one's beliefs. The moderation team has always looked to allow open discussion without interfering and as long as we follow the Lounge rules and remain civil to one another the Lounge tends to be a place for all members to get away and talk amongst friends as it should be. Now back to my Dirac Live Full measurements, this time with a MiniDSP UMIK-1.

Just so all of you that are involved in this thread knows, I always hold out hope that we as a Lounge Family can actually have intelligent discussion without lowering ourselves to a level that one has to make personal jabs or insults to make one's self feel superior in one's beliefs. I hope, beyond the lounge, that we can do this as a country. Partisan bickering without real solutions helps nobody. I could be wrong, but I feel that we get too caught up in picking sides based on political alignment rather than the merit of the argument. In my view, a sad state for a democracy. In any case, I'm done with this thread. A lot more fun to be had in the real world. Cheers everyone, enjoy the rest of your weekend!
