My Wifenut was watching the national news. She is not always able to completely follow some news stories in English. She asked me to explain about Kim Davis, the clerk of Rowan County in Kentucky, after refusing to grant a marriage certificate to a gay couple. I explained the circumstances and also that I had read that she herself had been married four different times. My wife asked me if that made sense since she seemed to justify her actions as clerk by mentioning that she followed God's laws. My wife grew up in Japan as a Shinto but her father, a college math professor, sent her to a Christian school since the academics were superior in his opinion. She learned that multiple marriages were discouraged by many churches in the US. She thought for a minute and said in English, doesn't that make her a hypocrite. She laughed and said maybe she would have refused to give them the 4th license if she had been the clerk. アーメン (Amen)

Kam Chancellor of the Seahawks, one of the best defensive backs in the NFL, has decided he won't honor his contract he just signed last year and is holding out for more money. I'm sick and tired of this nonsense. He makes 23 times as much in one Sunday afternoon as I make in an entire year in my retirement check. My monthly expenses including our catastrophic cancer medical expenses far exceed my retirement income. I have to steel from our savings and future 401K to make end meet. We can't begin to afford the outrageous costs of two seats for one game plus parking, two beers and two hot dogs which is about 25% of my monthly retirement check. Many of the owners are very rich. They have to be to fund these ultra expensive franchises. Some of the players have legitimate college degrees and would be successful even if they didn't have the superb athletic skills. However, many of them would be selling hamburgers at the Golden Arches if it weren't for pro sports. Some like Kam have no loyalty to the team, coach, fellow players or local fans. They simply want every dime they can squeeze and would leave in a second to another team for more bucks. A significant percentage of them apply for bankruptcy a short time after their retirement from pro sports due to complete financial irresponsibility. If they invested a reasonable portion of what they are paid they would be set for life. They might even have to drive a BMW rather than a Bentley, so sad. I hope the Seahawks stay firm even if he sits out the entire season and it costs the team another shot at the Super Bowl. Thanks Porscheguy for this thread so I could get this off my chest!

Nine Important Facts To Remember As We Grow Older #9 Death is the number 1 killer in the world. #8 Life is sexually transmitted. #7 Good health is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die. #6 Men have 2 motivations: hunger and hanky panky, and they can't tell them apart. If you see a gleam in his eyes, make him a sandwich. #5 Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day. Teach a person to use the Internet and they won't bother you for weeks, months, maybe years. #4 Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in the hospital, dying of nothing. #3 All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism. #2 In the 60's, people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird, and people take Prozac to make it normal. #1 Life is like a jar of jalapeno peppers. What you do today may be a burning issue tomorrow.
