Cheers from Cincinnati where Bockfest is this weekend. My wife and I went to a favorite brewpub before it got crowded to enjoy some great locally made Bock bier and food, then left before the crowds arrived. View AttachmentMark Looks like fun. I lived in Covington late 60’s early 70’s and am still a big Reds fan. Going back to a Reds game is on my bucket list. Went to many, many games at both Crosley and Riverfront. Still have a caught foul ball and certificate from Crosley about a week before closing. I loved living there as a kid. Wife and I have talked about staying downtown and going to game. Maybe one day in not too distant future. 🤞 It's changed a lot - mostly for the better. There are so many more entertainment and dining options. Some classics are gone, but new ones have emerged. Overall, the character remains - and that is good. Mark

Did anybody watch the podcast, did we miss anything? Not much. Dan broke his ankle, everyone is turning into a long haired hippie, the new subs are selling well, a lot of products that were out of stock are either back in or will be soon, and a lot of unnamed stuff is coming this summer and the next podcast will feature a "group" coming in to talk about an imminent release of something related to home theater that he can't talk about yet but will in the next podcast. Re: Podcasts - they seem to be turning into a band of troubadours in lieu of engineering, developing, and building new products. RMC-1? - dang, I thought that was a long ago developed product.

121/85 BP lowest ever! This measured after my first Church Service. I will be arranging for Baptism for next week. I am so stoked by the possibilities. I spoke with a counselor this morning and he is amazed by my story and only too happy to help me on my path to spiritual well being.

Then, he'd get taken to task over missing a date or a feature changing from early thinking to final launch. So...we get what we get now...nothing until shipment is imminent. Mark

For me, I personally like hearing from them even if the news is pretty "ho-hum". As a company, it's something that sets them apart. I less-than-fondly recall trying to reach a human at Denon about an issue, so the fact that I can call and talk to someone, that the owner takes time to talk to us, and that they have welcomed us into their "home" at Emofests it quite nice. YMMV. Mark

Andrew Robinson does the stupid dance. He gets a Pioneer SX-780 receiver and does not know the history of this. So the dummy plugs it in and for a second or two it works. He got off lucky. It could gone poof on him faster than him saying Subwooooofer. Most idiotic thing I have seen him do! I had respect for him up to now. But not now! If you are going to talk about vintage audio you better get the part of being careful. Connect to an isolation transformer and Varactor and use a dim bulb circuit to help detect high current draw due to shorts if not worse. I am not anyone’s fanboy. And if people do something stupid, I will call them on it. Bonehead Andrew gets the award!

As an addendum to Andrew Robinson's irresponsible powering on of an unknown vintage audio component, he can't read either! He thought I was complaining about his mods that he did to the SX-780. I was getting in his face about damaging the component and also putting himself in peril for no reason. I am glad I did it and make no excuses or apologies for it. Kristi and him are nice people, but I will cease supporting him, because for a person who should know better, he didn't! Done!

Hi vcautokid - Not everyone has technical skills like the average Lounger. The majority of folks would do exactly as Mr. R. did and plug it in to see if it works. Yes, he should have known better. That said, I'd not trash him for this particular mistake. But that's just me... Cordially - Boom

I am not just picking on him. I have much better things to do. But as a recovering audiophile, well, I expect better.

Can you explain what was so bad about what he did? When you have old electronics that have been sitting around unplugged for years it is best to hook it up to a variac and bring the voltage up slowly. This is done mostly for allowing the capacitors to 're-form'. Full voltage could shock caps and other electronics. If you ever get a chance to grab some gear from various eras then open up say a cassette deck from the 70s 80s and 90s. You go from packed with all sorts of electronics to 'where did all the guts go.

Thanks, I didn't know that. I would have just plugged it in, too. Not many people own a Variac, either.

I am not just picking on him. I have much better things to do. But as a recovering audiophile, well, I expect better. Is this the same Andrew R who used to be with Emotiva? If so, I hardly recognized him from a video I found that appears related to what you are talking about. In any case, I was surprised to see your comments - they seemed out of character for what I would have expected from the usual happy VC. (EDIT: I found the video where he turns it on...yep. That's him. I was originally watching the video with the guys doing the mods and thought "that didn't look or sound like him!") Mark

Happy yes. But I call as I see it. I don't really care who it is. Whether it is me, most tough on then anyone, or anyone else who professes to be a recovering audiophile, I know he knows better. And frankly I was not impressed with Just Audio's work either. It could be maybe their editing but their work seemed not the best that Pioneer deserved. It is my opinion, if it seems I am not happy to some, I can't fix what I am as my honesty will always rule. Some may like, some may not. Part of the risk of sharing honestly. If you really want to see something really good, watch Mr. Carlson's Lab,or Xraytonyb. These guys are careful, and do vintage gear well. From even the earliest days these guys get them working right. I really learn something from these guys. Andrew? Not really. His production is quality no doubt. I don't always agree with what he says, but usually he is pretty good, but this video was well not so good. I am not discouraging anyone from checking out his stuff. He has value for some. For me? Not so much. As always your mileage may vary.
