The description of the audio capability is a bit vague. "With Amazon Fire TV, you can stream movies and TV shows in 4K Ultra HD, 1080p, or 720p. With Dolby Audio, enjoy rich cinematic surround sound, consistent quality via HDMI (up to 7.1)." What exactly is their definition of "Dolby Audio"? Does this mean a Dolby TrueHD 7.1 stream will be available(on movies mixed as such)with 1080p/720p or is just available for 4K Ultra HD video? I take it Dolby Atmos isn't available with those movies that were mixed that way since the description does say "up to 7.1". I'm personally impressed with the Dolby Digital Plus on the current Fire TV, but if I can now get "TRUE" uncompressed high def audio, then I'll be pre-ordering(not that I need an excuse to anyway!  ). I have also noticed like the Apple TV, the optical output has been nixed in place of the expandable SD memory port. |

that s**ks I have fire tv in the living room, echo in the kitchen and just got the fire stick two days ago for the bedroom now the new one comes out with Alexa and voice control included

For now, I've decided to wait and see if high def audio will be on board as I would like 7.1 audio. I don't have a 4K TV so I'm in no hurry, so for now I'll be sticking with my current version Fire TV. |

Well the thread is about the new Fire TV, Apple TV just came up because it's also new and in comparison is somewhat lacking. I'm sold! Now that Alexa is coming to it and it has voice search I can't think of a better interface to replace my buggy Sony Blu ray players youtube app. My problem though is that it is HDMI output. Luckily I have an HDMI to optical ouput that works with my DAC on my TV. But that is bbad planning. They are getting rid of a whole host of DAC options.
