I understand that just the FL and FR are fully balanced now on the XMC-1, is this correct? I do love what I'm hearing in stereo (and surround), but it's not like I can put the stereo into my rear speakers ever and do a functional test to compare the fully balanced L and R channels to the surround channels.
On my highly efficient speakers, the XMC-1's noise floor is already so low I have to put my ear into my tweeters to hear it, and I'm near field to 7.2 channels. At some point, I would suspect that the noise floor will be so low it will no longer have an audible effect for us humans. I'm pretty sure the XMC-1 might be there already.
I'm not saying I won't be buying the XMR-1 though or that the difference won't be measureable. It depends what the price is, if I have a room that can take ceiling speakers at that point, availability of content, etc... Honestly, not being able to have lots of room treatments on my sloped ceilings/walls (like I have now) would be a huge drawback and matters far more to me than more speakers.
Dan explained in his response a while ago that the XMR-1 will have a complete balanced circuitry from beginning to end. The convertors in that unit will/should absolutely sound better than the XMC-1 being fully balanced. I myself am waiting with my 40% card for the day he starts accepting orders .

Resurrecting my old thread because I just bought one of the refurbished units, pretty excited! Is it true the XMC is going to $3k the end of this year? That's kind of what pushed me (plus I still have my 40% card). I should be good for a while, I have a Samsung 58" plasma, no UHD, I'm more intrigued by HDR anyways. At any rate, I'll probably keep my TV for a while still so the current HDMI board should suit me just fine for now.
Is there still talk about the XMR? I looked through recent threads and didn't see much, just talk about the new BasX line.

Not sure if you know about the news to upgrade the modularity of the XMC-1 to HDCP2.2/HDMI 2.0a and 7.2.4 for Dolby Atmos/DTS:X but if you read the link provided below you'll see you'll be covered in the future for 4K. Yes Big Dan has said there will still be a big brother to the XMC-1, not named XMR-1, read the quote post by Big Dan below. emotiva.com/xmc-1-enhancementsHi all, Happy to see all of the interest and excitement regarding the new upgrade path! We're really excited and working hard to bring this out on time... now, don't laugh!! We're doing much better these days!! A couple of notes... 1. We will definitely work to get more than one Dirac preset for the XMC-1. 2. The new DSP engine will have enough H.P. to support Dirac Unison. We don't know all of the details regarding implementation and cost yet, but we'll keep you posted as we know. We'd like to be able to offer it as an option. 3. We'll have enough DSP oomph to do Dirac at 96k on the new engine. Again, we've got to do some negotiating with Dirac on the business side of this, but we'll certainly do our best to make it available. Stand by for advice as we get it. 4. There IS a 16 channel super AVP under development, concurrent with the updated XMC-1. We're not ready to release specific details yet, but you can probably guess the most obvious "must have" features for this baby. BTW, we do not make any meaningful profit on the DSP upgrade. It's EXPENSIVE!! But we're taking the long view on this side of the business and we're in it for keeps. We're going to do some amazing stuff in the next year or so. We've hit our stride, so to speak. So, hang on!! Thanks for the support and keeping faith! More to come soon. Cheers, Big Dan

Sorry for the delay, busy weekend. So does that mean mine will ship with the new HDCP2.2 board? From the link you posted it says... "Will be included standard on all units shipped after the board is available"

"Will be included standard on all units shipped after the board is available" I would say no, since the board hasn't been released. Also being a refurbished unit would mean (to me), that it was cleaned up and brought to the current specs and firmware for its original build.

Any clue as to win the 2.0 HDMI board goes standard or Will i always have to pay for the upgrade? Im in no rush, My Umc200 is still going strong just want the XMC-1 for better audio quality!!

I agree with AudioHTIT, since the board isn't yet released and since you didn't purchase at regular price I doubt it will be included. The only sure way to know would be to call and ask.

Musicguy Emotiva has not given any time frame, so if you are wanting anything concrete calling them would get your question answered one way or the other. If you find out anything, do come back and update us.

Musicguy I would possibly concentrate on the "Quantities Limited. act fast" part of the refurbished ad ; rather than run the risk of losing the hdmi card Musicguy. Another factor is if your happy with the 1in 1out hdmi2.0 card or the 4 port hdmi2.0a that is months away ? The 1st one you can install yourself . Its a set price so I cant see any $300 hdmi additions ; Ide ring and ask how many they have

I just ordered one yesterday with my 40% coupon. Very excited to getting this in as I have been waiting 3 years to get a sperate pre/pro. I am using an Onkyo tx nr 809 now for a pre so it will be interesting to hear how dirac compares to audyessy. I have Maggies front and center and some nice little Empteks/RBH for my rears. Those will be soon replaced with maggies too. I am running an XPA 3 for the front and will use my little baby Adcom gfa 535II or one my behringer A500's for the rear until I decide on which new amp configuration I want to do. That bassX stereo amp my be just the ticket to go with my XPA 3 or I may just get a new gen 3 in stereo and use the XPA3 for center and rear.
I am very curious to see if there is sound quality differences in the XMC vs using a receiver for a pre. I dont know why but I have always suspected the receiver is not up to snuff in the pre out section and audio processing. I have no proof of this, but its a gut feeling. I will def post my results though.

I love the magie center it is so transparent and natural. I had a Paradigm Studio center prior and even though it went lower it just did not comapare in sound. Once you go Planar you dont go back. I dont need the bass panels at all as my fronts go well into 40hz with authority. At the moment im using a Parts Express titanic MkII in a sealed box, but soon getting two SVS SB 2000's.

I still haven't ran Dirac successfully, it won't find the processor. I've tried many cat 5 cables going directly from my router, tried the laptop on wifi or hard connected, checked my modem dhcp settings, assured dhcp was checked on the processor, etc. I was using my work laptop so I asked our IT guy to allow Dirac in Windows firewall on my home network, that's the only thing I could think of. Was going to call Emotiva but when I'm home they are not open

Have you actually reset your router and cable modem? (If you haven't actually powered your cable modem and router off and then on again, try that. They don't have to be off for more than a few seconds, but both MUST be off at the same time; turning each off and then on again separately will NOT clear their routing tables of each other entirely.) I just brought my pc out in the living room, pain but connected right away. It must be some setting on my work computer that is blocking it, f'n security! Allowing Dirac in the home network did not work on it.
Anyways, I got everything connected and started testing the levels, I got all 5 of my speakers in the green zone but then went to do my subs and they barely registered. I turned the gain knobs on my Behringer inuke amp all the way up and they still aren't even hitting the green, any ideas? I can adjust the output volume in Dirac so the subs are in the green but then my speakers are WAY past the green.
Should I up the db level on the xmc-1? I thought they should all stay at 0 and were overridden when using Dirac anyways.
