I have wanted the XMC-1 for a long time, followed threads all the way through its development. I currently have a UMC-1 with a first gen XPA-5 and am holding a 40% upgrade card. It looks like the XMC will be $1,999 the rest of the year (judging by Emotiva's homepage). Can I combine my upgrade with the current sale so it would be $1,200? My other concern is the release of the XMR-1, this is way above my budget but it would greatly increase the value of the upgrade card. Depending on how much they go for in the future it could potentially almost pay for the XMC. The XMC price may also decrease once the XMR is released. I'm not sure if I should wait it out or pull the trigger. This is a ton of money for me which is why I am really thinking this through. The final issue is the XMC not having HDMI 2.0, I know there has been talk about a upgrade 2.0 board. I will probably not use Atmos or DTS:X in my current house so that is not of concern.

My friend, Im so sorry to be the bearer of bad news. your 40% discount card applies to the full retail price of the XMC-1 not the sale price. This is to the best of my knowledge.. That makes the XMC-1 $1,499.00 to you. 8(

All I can say is from having owned the UMC-1 and now owning an XMC-1 the UMC-1 is futile compared to the XMC-1, the best 2ch and Multichannel piece of gear I have owned to date, you could wait for the XMR-1 but from what I have heard it will be much pricey than the XMC-1.

Darn, if I can't combine the card with the sale I guess I will have to wait longer

Just as Nick said above. The 40% card only applies to the regular price. As for the XMC-1 being HDMI 2.0/HDCP 2.2 compliant, Big Dan has already addressed this(I think in the latest PodCast if I'm not mistaken) so no worries on this issue. If you have questions/concerns and want solid concrete answers that will put your mind at ease, I'd highly suggest calling Emotiva Customer service and talking with someone in person.

... Can I combine my upgrade with the current sale so it would be $1,200? You could have just used your card and paid $1200 up until May 1st, now it's $1500 w/card. However, I also believe original UMC-1 owners qualify for UFL, which would give you the XMC-1 at 25% off of retail or about $1875, and you'd still have your card. Cards seem to be going for $400+ in the emporium, so you could possibly beat the $1500 price by a bit. If and when the XMR-1 comes out the card might appreciate more. Sales have never been cumulative with discounts, except for e-club, and that's gone now too. If you want an XMC-1 I'd consider getting one with your UFL and keep the card as an investment, as a discount potential on the XMR-1, or just sell it at the best price you can get. If you want or need HDMI 2.0/HDCP 2.2, that will be an additional cost, at least that's what I'm expecting.

$2499 and with the upgrade card it would be $1499, IMO that's a pretty decent deal considering I know of no other company that had that promotion, I wasn't fond of the two price increases but at least having a 40% card will entitle you to $1000 off

I paid full boat retail (minus 10% for the E-Club), and I don't regret the decision at all. We love our XMC-1. Very high "SAF" (My wife loves it because it's rejuvenated her music collection)

UFL is off retail too then I assume That actually is not a bad idea to use UFL and then keep my card. Still more money than I can do right now, I'll keep trying to put my pennies away, been a rough year with unexpected expenses. I read that to use the card you need to mail it to Emotiva, how does UFL work then? When I log in it only shows that I bought a XPS-1 from them but I own a UMC-1, XPA-5, mini X and the XPS-1. I emailed Emotiva and they said I bought those things before the site was redone were it keeps purchase history for each user.

You'll have to call them to confirm what I said, that is that UMC-1 owners qualify, and that it's still effective. I think those are both true. If you call they can confirm you have a qualifying purchase, there's no way to see it online.

Don't pull the trigger, just buy the processor (somebody might get hurt) !

Just to clarify... the "Upgrade for Life" program replaced the 40% Upgrade Card program and began with the purchasers of the UMC-200. If you used your upgrade card to purchase the UMC-200 (or purchased the UMC-200 at the "selling" price), you were automatically enrolled in the UFL program after the 30 day trial window closed. If you purchased the UMC-1, and did not upgrade, you are not an Upgrade for Life member and not entitled to the 25% discount. Unfortunately, the UFL program is also now "closed" to new purchasers.

Someone explain the upgrade for life with conjunction with a newly bought UMC200 was an E Club member. Bought 1 1/2 years ago You should qualify for UFL, you can see Dan's explanation above, no new members after April 30th 2015. eClub came and went. I think what doc1963 is missing is that they added the UMC-1 into UFL, even though it didn't originally qualify (but maybe I'm missing something).

According to Dan's post that repeetavx quoted above, they did change the UFL guidelines before they closed it to new "family" members. I missed that substantial news somewhere along the line and I happily stand corrected.....

So am I, but I never received the membership card. I think it must have fallen out of the airplane someplace above the Atlantic Ocean.
