The whole point of reviews is to pick reviewers whose priorities and opinions (and hearing) agrees with yours. That's part of the point but not all of it. The other part has to due with giving people with limited time and resources places to start looking and listening. Like say, you take a list of 5 of the best speaker reviews and then you go listen to them. I would never buy speakers based on a review alone and not hearing them for myself. But if you take a little time up front to sift through the options, it saves a lot of time in the end. Especially when you already know you favor a certain type of speaker. Like if you love Magnepan and they come out with some new line and it gets all kinds of praise saying it's better than before, I would have more inclination to make weekend plans to go have a listen. And the opposite might hold true for another brand you don't really care for, where you could just skip it all together. But you are right. For example, after listening to Klipsch many times over the years, I have found that no matter what size or style (even the famous Corner Horns) or room I'm in, I'm not overly fond of their sound. So I know when I see a rave review of them, that the reviewer and I are not in tune with each other (aka someone like Mark Fleischmann at S&V). He flat out loves Paradigm speakers, and I do not. One of the least favorable reviews I read of his were for some Dynaudios that I thought sounded fantastic. And I don't believe he's ever even tried separate components, only receivers.

I don't think audiobill blindly defends Emotiva. I've read plenty of remarks from him that were not praising the products. It seems to me that while you complain about Emotiva "fanbois" here in a Lounge that is sponsored by Emotiva, you go out of your way to dismiss, ridicule and disrespect their products as well as the people who love the brand. It goes both ways. I could just as well say the same of you about being an Atmos fanboi or Denon fanboi. You like the stuff - fine. You are right - if S&V named the XMC-1 their product of the year, it would be posted here and praised. But that still wouldn't change anyone's opinion of the magazine itself. you couldnt be MORE wrong. I have praised the xmc-1 over and over...it sounds great!! so please stop trying to make me out to be the villain because I dont bend over and kiss *bleep* any chance I get and defend anything anti-emotiva...Im a realist...not a blind follower...this is a forum not a cult Well that's fine, I am glad you like the XMC-1. But when others praise it, why do you have such an issue with it? You wax rhapsodic over Atmos and your Denon products - that's fine. When you talk about those two things you sound exactly like what you criticize about the Emotiva "fanbois" in your posts. I'm not trying to make you out to be a "villain." I'm only writing my observations about your behavior in this Lounge. That's how I perceive it. That's my opinion - that you seem just as much a "fanboi" of Atmos and Denon as others in this Emotiva Lounge are of Emotiva products.

again...i will say this one more time...Denon is just a cheap means to my ends...you can replace Denon with yamaha, marantz, onkyo, integra...whatever...Im not a denon lover in any way shape or form...ATMOS yes...its the latest greatest and will be the standard. so give me whatever AVR or pre/pro that will give me what i need...as long as I can have my minidsp 88a along with itin 5 years come back...I guarantee you will eat crow...if im wrong i will be the first to admit it
I DO NOT have problems with others praising the xmc-1...period...your perception is what it is cause I tell it like it is...when people ask I let them know while sounding great (although its not so big I would sacrifice newer tech) its behind the curve in tech. at CES the MAIN thing this year was all the products with immersive audio tech...NOT 5.1 or 7.1
3 years ago yes the xmc-1 would have been the apex...not anymore...I

So,,,if Denon doesn't get three out of three product of the year awards do you criticize them on the Denon forums? Give me a break. LMAO. how many times are you going to post the same thing??? and no where have i EVER stated DENON is the greatest thing (sh** I dont even own the flagship I own a mid tier).....EVER!!! i could care less what brand my AVR is at this point because IMHO that has heard the XMC and another brand (gasp...the horror!!) that the key ingredient is DIRAC...so my AVR (as long as it isnt behind the technology curver) could be made by fisher price....as long as I keep DIRAC in the chain...its gonna sound great. DISCLAIMER...now before everyone gets their panties in a bunch...using "fisher price" was an exaturation to get my point across...I am not a emo hater by any means (possibly a fanboy hater...I cant stand when people are blindly loyal to ANYTHING...i prefer true honesty) nor a denon lover....I love what gets e the results i am looking for...Im happy for all that are happy...if that means they love their XMC so be it...but dont argue its the end al be all just cause you own it...its not Sounds like you are the one getting panties in a wad.

Another thread transformed in a boxing ring. It's one of the reasons I was less active in the lounge last year.

Another thread transformed in a boxing ring. Well hey, I have no interest what so ever in seeing the 7th installment in the boxing ring "Rocky" series, "Creed," but Sly got a Golden Globe for it so it must be good eh? I'll bet it's a truly original story. I'm also betting on Star Wars to win the academy award for best picture this season, Atmos or no Atmos.

But for me (and only me), it is the end all stereo preamp. It took a while but my system at home sounds as good as those high end shops' expensive rooms and I did it for a fraction of the cost - thanks to Emotiva. So even for me there is a slight bias towards Emotiva since I own them (as expected). And reviews mean nothing to me...especially the ones posted lately that seem more like blogs.

Remarquable what some people read in written words that isn't actually in there. However it's a plain fact that the DRC inside the XMC-1 is superior to the DRC found in D&M and Yamaha products. Sure you can add a miniDSP with Dirac to any processor to make it sound as good as the XMC-1, but that's not the point. The XMC-1 loses on features of course, as it lacks Atmos. Now what about that XMR-1?

This is year 3 since the discussions back in April 2013. So you only have 2 more years left to wait. Crap you beat me to it. Also, wasn't the XMC-1 originally priced at like $1000? Then $1500. Then when it came out $2000, and shortly there after $2500. What the heck does that mean for the XMR-1? $5,000, $7500, $10,000, $12,500?

cue the fanboi theme song.. This is the post that generated my response in this thread. If you look at what was posted prior to your above statement that has no constructive value whatsoever, which of the posts preceding this one warranted your making this statement? I don't see anyone blindly defending Emotiva in the thread in the manner in which you seem to define "fanboi." Geebo posted links to a couple of other publications that did declare the XMC-1 to be the product of the year but to me that doesn't make him a fanboi any more than your posting links to positive links to Atmos, Denon or whatever other products you feel are worthy. I understand you like your Denon because it gives you the features and sound you like; your saying so is perfectly fine. But when you chimed in with your comment "cue the fanboi theme song.." I felt that was not at all warranted under the circumstances.

geebos and audio bill were it.
they QUICKLY "came to the rescue" of bonzo's post...well 2 reviews got it right!!! so S&V must be garbage...that doesnt sound fishy to you?
its like going to doctors for second/third opinions...2 say you are healthy...the 3rd says you have some risks....and you just brush it off as he is a "quack" or well I 2 said im fine...so...

The whole point of reviews is to pick reviewers whose priorities and opinions (and hearing) agrees with yours. It's not a simple matter of right and wrong; the idea is to find someone who "thinks like you do" and "hears like you do" so you can have some reasonable expectation that, if they like something, you'll like it, and vice versa. Obviously, different magazines, and different reviewers, have different priorities. Therefore, it's not so much a matter of "trusting" such and such magazine or reviewer, but of finding one whose judgment generally seems to agree with yours, to the point where you can get useful information from their reviews. (It's just like how you utilize the information when a certain friend says they liked or didn't like the food at a certain restaurant. Sure, there may be a few reviewers out there who seem to base their preferences on advertising budget; but, then, you may have one or two friends who base how well they like a restaurant on the decor, or the background music.) If you consider having all the latest features more important than sound quality, then you should find reviewers who also feel that way, because you'll probably like most of the products they do; and, if you consider sound quality to be the most important thing, then you should find reviewers who consistently rate products that way. There's always going to be a trade-off; you aren't going to find a product with the most features, and the best sound quality, for the lowest price (it's possible but pretty unlikely). There are obviously plenty of people out there who do consider having every new feature to be the most important reason to buy a product (and the XMC-1 is probably not for them). However, we like to think that, for people who actually place the highest priority on sound quality, with value being a close second, the XMC-1 will turn out to be an excellent choice (and many folks seem to agree with us there). I totally agree with this point, Keith. Back when I was shopping for speakers, I found a guy at a local dealer that would describe things he heard in a speaker exactly as I was hearing them. He was the only person I had ever found that seemed to hear things as I did. I was able to do an in-home audition and ended up with the very speakers he recommended. After that whenever he found something he thought I might be interested in, I trusted his judgement and went in for a listen. I knew going in if he liked the sound of some component, speaker, etc. that I would too. Unfortunately he left the shop some years later but I definitely see the value in finding someone like that in the industry that can point you towards new products. We all hear differently, so you may really enjoy something that I find less than stellar. It's ok though. I think Emotiva gives you the best bang for the buck, but I am not afraid to try new things. I also do not believe in belittling anyone's opinion on audio products - they may hear something that I do not. It's ok, we can all enjoy our systems and share what we do hear.

only emo owners feel the need to defend their purchases Why would you feel the need to limit that to owners of Emotiva item? Most ( not all) people who purchase something that costs more than a few bucks feel a need to defend their purchase, it's called post-purchase rationalization. Saying this only applies to owners of Emotiva equipment is not only unsupported by facts and research, it's inflammatory to do so on an Emotiva forum. There's plenty of rational discussion of the topic to be had without insulting me, and every other owner of a piece of Emotiva equipment.
