When downstairs this evening to put in a movie and both my amps where off I have an XPR-2 and a XPA-5. The five cut on with no issues but the XPR-2 clicked on and then off. I tried to cut it on several times and the same thing happened. The XPR-2 run my two tower speakers and they where off as well. Once I unplugged my amp and plugged my speakers back in they powered on. I then unplugged the speakers took out all of the speaker wire and the xlr balanced outputs going to my amp. Once I cut the amp back on it started clicking really loudly. I have a separate 20 amp outlet that only runs the XPR-2. I haven't had any issues with this amp before and I'm not sure why it's tripping with nothing else hooked up to it. Really perplexed. There goes movie night

I had a situation somewhat similar to yours and what I had found is that I had a stray speaker wire touch the red and black pair causing a short. Take out your speaker cables and clean them and do the same for the terminals. I'm hoping this is all that it is.

I'll try that today but what concerns me the most is that I don't have anything hooked up to it and it's still clicking. I've unplugged it multiple times after I unhooked everything.

I had a similar issue in an SA-250 I was demo'ing. It was an internal problem that required a return to Emotiva.

That would be a nightmare having to ship this thing back to Emotiva. I mean a nightmare.

I had to ship my xpr5 back to them for repairs. It was going into protect mode without anything plugged into it. It sucks. Cost me $110 and no amp for 4 weeks. But no problems since I got it back. I sent mine fedex without any issues. But if I had to do it again, it will go freight.

When I shipped my XPA-7 back to them UPS and Fedex both wanted around $120 and Emotiva got a shipping price around $60 with UPS for me.

I sent an email to Emotiva yesterday they replied back first thing this morning asking me to verify my name and if I purchased it directly from them. I sent an email back including the original invoice email from them. I haven't heard anything back. A friend of mine thanks it might be a fuse. He had it happen before on a non emotive amp.

Is the clicking the physical amp itself? Not clicking though the speakers correct.
I have my XPA-2 Gen2 for about 2 weeks now. And once in a while it clicks not the speakers the actual amp it self. It only does it once and there is no rhyme or reason to it some time the amp has been on for hours and some time just a few minuets.
I hope this is not anything bad to come with my amp. Yes shipping would be a nightmare. How old is your amp? I have power amps that are 25 years old and work without a hitch. I hope you get this fixed. So you do not have to ship it back. I feel if this amp is under warranty Emo should send a call tag and pay the freight back to them.
I have noticed a lot of post that deal with broken and humming amps. This is something I have never had to deal with in 35 years of buying stereo gear. Good luck and keep us posted on the out come of your amp.

My XPA-2 makes a clicking sound inside a few times also when it is warming up. Think it is just something expanding inside.

Maybe someone with more experience with this will chime in.

My XPR-5 rear surround channel literally when up in a blaze of glory a few days ago. The funny thing is it was not even on, it was in standby mode. About 4 in the morning my wife woke me up thinking there was somebody in the house because she heard a loud thump come from the basement. I went down to check it out and found nothing wrong, as I was walking up the stairs I heard it again, a every loud bang that rattled my a/c ductwork. I ran back down and listened again because I couldn't figure it out, about ten minutes later it did it again and and it came from my right rear surround speaker. Went to the audio rack and the red lights where lit up for that channel on the amp. I turned it off on the back rocker switch and unplugged it till I could look at it later that day. Later that day I plugged it back in and boom, sparks and smoke and it was sizzlin good. Man I dread sending this thing back to Emotiva. What a bummer

If mine ever gives out I will never buy another. I will go with a Rouge audio tube amp. These thing should last at least 10 to 15 years. I have old Adcom amps and old Marantz receivers from the 70's still working.

On another note I do have a Sherborn pre-1 and CD-1 that has been working for three years flawlessly. So I guess don't jump the gun until something happens.

I pulled my old adcom 555 ll that has been sitting in my storage closet for almost 5 years and it is almost 20 years old to replace the XPR-5 till I get it back and it still rocks out and sounds good to boot. This will be the second time this amp has been in for service, very disappointed. At 100 bills a whack to send it back its getting expensive.

Wow that stinks and is a huge safety issue thank god it didn't blow up while you weren't home. No the amp clicks continuosly and the red light keeps popping on and off. I purchased the amp in February of 2014 and its in the basement so it doesn't get a ton of use. I have a setup with 7.1 and projector so I usually just watch movies and sporting events in the Mancave. This is my 3rd Emotiva. I purchased an XPA-3 originally from Emotiva and sold that, then purchased an XPA-5 from a friend of my and then purchased the XPR-2. I haven't had any issues until now. You spend that kind of money for the XPR series you want it to work effortlessly for years. I'm hoping I can get this resolved. I guess I have to call Emotiva tomorrow because I haven't heard anything back today.

Yea it stinks and good thing we were home, it could have been ugly to say the least. Now my wife is paranoid about the theater. It sounds like one of your channels is about to go too so you definitely want to call Emotiva to send it back in for service. I also have an xpa 2 and an xpa 3 gen 1's in another system that are six years old and not a single hiccup out of them. My XMC-1 has also been flawless. I will probably sell the XPR-5 when I get it back, it still has a little over two years warranty left.

I called this morning and the lady said that the techs where in a meeting and she could take my information and they would get back to me. Still waiting. So three emails and a phone call without any support. Starting to get a little upset.
