I'm at the stage where I believe the 2 channel part of my system is done, it's balanced and discrete all the way from the ERC-3, through the XSP-1 to the XPA-1L's which all Gen 2 products. FL and FR speakers maybe next on the list, but they will be direct sourced and locally made, so no chance that Emotiva will be anywhere near that list.
In the HT part of the system the next step is probably an Oppo UHD, 4K, triple layer, HDMI 2.0, HDCP 2.2 etc compatible player. They don't appear to be on the launch list until late 2016 maybe early 2017. No Emotiva purchase likely there either as the XPA-5 still kicks ass and will continue to do so for many years to come.
The only possible Emotiva product is the replacement for the UMC-200, which right now is doing everything that I need and then some. So a short term look for a replacement is unlikely. Plus there's not a lot of options when it comes to reasonably priced processors and I sure as hell don't want to get back onto the AVR merry go round. I might look for a used XMC-1 when the XMC-2 and/or the XMR-1 comes around, their price point will then be down around what I'd consider paying for short term electronics such as processors.
Cheers Gary

I'd recommend checking out Rotel. Reasonable price, good reputation, fair features. Better than average SQ.

There's one premise that I disagree with here - and that is that people ALWAYS tend to follow a specific brand.
I'd have to say that, before I discovered Emotiva (and before I worked here), I couldn't have named one brand whose products I always liked, or that I always thought were a good deal. At that point, I was more inclined to buy on the used market, and to pick individual models that I specifically liked rather than any particular brand.

I chose Marantz from the list, but... I would rather have something from Parasound, Outlaw or even Adcom.

If I could afford the gear it would be either McIntosh or Bryston.
On a budget similar to Emotiva I would probably go with Outlaw Audio.

If budget was no concern, I would go for MBL's Reference series. If I only won the state lotto I'd maybe buy Halcro.
