If budget was no concern, I would go for MBL's Reference series. If I only won the state lotto I'd maybe buy Halcro. Ooops! I've crapped in my pants...

That looks like the worst room for acoustics imaginable. I like these promotional photos... always taken in unbelievably bad acoustic environments.

That looks like the worst room for acoustics imaginable. Clearly a marketing image. It wouldn't look as sexy with a room full of padded sound absorbers... Those speakers (the ones nearest to the monoblocks and those sub towers in black) would look AND sound great in my (acoustically-treated) theater! Having auditioned the MBL Radialstrahler 101 X-treme speakers, these are the best speakers I've heard.

Although the twin sub towers (the black ones furthest from the center) may not garner the same WAF. Finish on these units is top notch. When I auditioned these (with LCSeminole and jlafrenz) at Axpona it was in a hotel room - with incumbent horrible acoustics - and yet they sounded sooo good! I can only imagine how good they can be in a properly treated environment. At 6 figures, they're not cheap by any definition.

I need to amend my original post and say marantz.. Eh,eh,eh, I guess that new Pre-Pro ended up sounding pretty good :-) Had I not jumped on one of the last new Fusion 8100 at the end of 2014, by now I would have the SR-5009 or SR-6009 Marantz AVR.

No doubt that these MBL's are the best speakers I've heard as well.

For me Emotiva was a distraction that went well then petered out with the discontinued XPR line & the lack of tube gear , Our main gear is & always will be Mcintosh 1st & Krell 2nd , all other brands including Emo gear are just fun distractions .

Old Krell amps are TOPS. Like the KSA series. www.stereophile.com/solidpoweramps/191krell/#ucWJkAZuhpUzbLuX.97Electric Bill warning for above amp! These days? Cost no object, or say, beneath the cost of a BMW? Pass Labs for the amps + pre. Magnepan Speakers. Mac Mini or some such for a music server. Shop a PREMIUM sub. A pair, at least. Emo MIGHT be a distraction, but it IS affordable by large numbers of persons. I've heard 350$ emo Monoblocks driving 7000$ speakers and NOBODY of the large number of listeners had ANYTHING bad to say about the ampllification. And as for what may be a step UP from EMO? NAD? ROTEL? PARASOUND? Wyred 4 Sound? I"ve owned 3 of the 4 I mentioned, at one time or another, and currently love my Parasound.

I have to admit either system just above this post and it would be a struggle but I would get by
