I'm interested in getting some over the ear headphones, and looking for some recommendations.
I am NOT looking for critical 2 channel listening. I often fly for work and looking for something to listen to music and watch movies that has good noise cancelling, comfortable to wear, and durable. Looking to spend less than $250. I appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks in advance.

From what I've read, the Bose ones have the best noise canceling tech by far.

Really nice headphones, i had them for a long time. IMO the sound was on the warm side, also very very comfortable

The Senns are a poor choice given OP's requirements. They have no noise canceling tech. Worse, they are open back, which will let in even more noise from the the plane/train.
The Audio-Technicas are closed, but you should probably check out their ATH-ANC7B (has noise-canceling), too.

teaman Golly Molly! The looks on these puts my HD600s look very crude in comparison. How beautiful. I wish all their headphones looked like that. yum Yum! Can't believe these are a fraction of the cost. vs

thoff - Sorry, missed your initial comment about flying for work and wanting noise cancelling headphones... I'd probably still try to find the most comfortable ones... and I'd go for Over Ear headphones...

Thank you for all the input. There is a Magnolia near me where I will likely go try some out. I had heard really good things about Sennheiser, but I didn't get the sense they would be great for air travel.
As stated above, I am looking for: -comfortable over-the-ear -good noise cancelling (plane travel) -durable
I'll definitely look into some of the options mentioned.

I appreciate your thoughts. Thanks in advance. Hiya thoff, I travel *a lot* for work, medium haul flights from Melbourne, AU to SE Asia mostly. A few years back I bought a pair of Bose QC15 over ear 'phones and they were great on the flights. Excellent noise reduction, no sound leakage, good battery life from the AAA battery. Worked very well on the in-flight entertainment too. They were however a little muddy in the bottom end. For my own music I was able to EQ that out so it was fine. One issue is wearing over the ear, closed phones for long periods in the plane's variable climate did make me sweat a little around the ears, that may just be me though.... ... so I sold them recently and upgraded to the Bose QC20 in ear noise cancelling model. Wow. MUCH better noise cancelling, they sit and stay comfortable just on your ear canal (not IN it) and very very comfortable. Just flew on Monday from Melbourne to Manila (for the second time this year and with these 'phones) and had them in the whole trip. They are much more accurate than the QC15s to my ear, and sound much better from the in flight systems. For my music off my ipad I need far less EQ, just a couple of DB up in the 2000khz and up, and a 2db 20hz bump. The built in lithium battery lasts about 16 hours. I also use these daily on a train trip for my commute in Melbourne, again outstanding results. They are not the most accurate 'phones on the market, but they do sound very good indeed. Let's face it in a noisy environment event the best 'phones still will suffer from the external noise and not be at their best. But for travel and noise cancelling I couldn't recommend them more highly. As a P.S. to this, I also bought the Oppo HA-2 before this trip. What a difference that has made to the sound quality from my iPad into the QC20s. Dynamics are better, slam, impact, detail, sound stage, volume without compression I have the pair of them in a little portable hard drive case, with the required cables, that I can carry anywhere. For some great sounding sealed back cans with good isolation the Oppo PM3's are very nice.

I heard some Bose noise cancelling phones too. I don't remember what model but they did definitely cancel noise. It was the only noice cancellation phone I tried. The sound quality wasn't bad either. It wasn't the best I've heard of course but it sounded decent to me. It was also reasonably comfortable.

View AttachmentCheers Tim Timster, First off, my name is also Tim. Thanks for all the information. I've been hesitant to go for "in-ear" because I do have a pair of Shure in-ears that I've worn on long flights and after a while I need to take them out just to give my ears a break from having them in. It isn't a sound issue. They are the kind where you squeeze the foam, slide them in and then the foam expands, and I just think my ears get irritated. I'll checkout the Bose you mention.

Hi Again Tim
I also have some Ultimate Ears Super Fi in ears and they are similar to the Shure's, they go right into the ear canal. I can wear them for an hour or so at best. The QC20s definitely do not (go in the canal) and are far more comfortable in my opinion. Hope you get to try them.
Let me know how you get on.
Cheers Tim

I have some Sony XBAH1s I use with the X3 II.
