[your theory sounds great except it doesn't work quite that way. My sister is a single female 56 years old making $13.50hr The job offers no benefits. She drives a 15 year old Toyota . All of her clothes are from goodwill. In other words she is poor, but not poor enough to get anything free. 15 years ago she needed emergency surgery for female problems. She had no regular doctor because of the cost. NONE of the $22k hospital bill was forgiven because she had a full time job. She had to file for banctrupcy. The judge still made her make payments for years.The affordable care act has allowed her to ge health insurance for the first time in her life, as long as she eats beans and never goes out. From her point of view, the picture you paint is not real. I do not live on the affluent side of town either. The so called safety net is very pours. I'm new to this site and like others am waiting to read some reviews on the XPA-Gen3 before pulling the plug. Was curious as to why Emotiva starting taking pre-orders on the unit before reviews have been done and published. You would think if that was done first there would be a lot more of us placing orders. I am not trying to sound negative just seems backwards to me. I have read every page and must say I feel sorry for Dan and Emotiva for all the negative B/S and whining, have to say some people need to get a life. Emotiva does not rely on reviews for sales as there is a loyal following and they have a 30 day return policy. Not many return gear once it arrives, though... that in itself is a review! Exactly why I just ordered a Gen-3 three channel amp. I have been reading this and a few other forums, and trust the new amp will fit my needs in quality and price point. I am on the upgrade path from a 12 year old 7.1 Denon AVR and even older speakers. I recently replaced my DCM Timeframe 600s with Goldenear Triton 1s. I do not expect to upgrade again in my lifetime unless I suddenly become rich beyond my wildest dreams. So I am carefully considering these upgrade acquisitions in a staged, prudent manner. I have plenty of music software in a multitude of formats (Vinyl, CD, Dvd-Audio, SACD, & Blu-ray) with channels: 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, 5.0, 5.1, 7.1, and even a couple of blu-rays from 2L that are 9.1 Auro 3-D. Of course I cannot play 9.1 at the moment, but 7.1 is available. Since the 3-D formats are relatively new and the surround processors are also new and complicated equipment, I think it is best to be patient and wait to purchase. I am reading the forums for those who have bought into that gear. I have no intention of purchasing the Audiocontrol Maestro M9 as it is beyond what I am willing to pay for one piece of electronic gear. I also do no think the XMC-1 fits what I want as it does not handle the upcoming 3-D formats. The Marantz AV8802 has Audyssey, and my preference is for Dirac Live/Unison or ARC. Even the Anthem AVM-60 does not handle Auro 3-D and is still awaiting a DTS-X software upgrade. I am hopeful that Emotiva's future XMR-1 fits more of what I am looking for in my price and time frame. Since there is very little in music software in 3-D, even less than movie software, there is no hurry except I am tempted by integrated room correction and balanced connections. As a lifelong poker player, I do understand the need and have the abilities to be patient.

It looks very nice - from the literature (functionally; actually, I'm not especially fond of the styling, but, on that... to each his own). And, giving it the benefit of the doubt and assuming that it actually sounds good, I assume you also like the $8900 price tag.... (Which is somewhat more than twice the price of an XMC-1 AND a 7-channel XPA Gen3 amp combined.) Did you take a look to the Audiocontrol Maestro M9? link It's the surround processor the XMR-1 should be.. Keith, you are completely right.

Hopefully there will be a nice review that compares the Gen3 to a Gen2 and also perhaps an XPR amp. I haven't heard any local dealers in Chicagoland as an Emotiva dealer but hopefully soon...
Another chance is at Axpona - hoping for a nice Emotiva display with chances to listen to various Emotiva products.

I know it is a bit off topic for this thread but to clear things up: Audiocontrol Concert AVR-7 compares to the Arcam AVR-550 Audiocontrol Concert AVR-9 compares to the Arcam AVR-850 Audiocontrol Maestro M9 for that Arcam currently doesn't offer an same kind of unit where the power amp stage stages are being replaced by a balanced analogue output. In the previous line-up of Arcam they had such a unit (AVR-950) and it was also significantly more expensive than their top class receiver (AVR-750). The big differences is in the faceplate where the buttons, dispay and volume control are on different places. Imho I like the front of the Arcam much more. And about DTS-X if you read the manuals then it is stated both by Audiocontrol and Arcam that DTS-X will be available by future update. More differences I'm not aware of but I must say that I don't follow the developments on the Surround Processors that closely anymore as I'm a very happy user of the XMC-1. (The only thing which is not usable is the Android app as the volume control doesn't work properly...)
