If it were not for the fact that my XPA-2 Gen 1 was not "suitably clean power" for me, I would think they also might sound like any other amp. My gen 1 was a tad harsh. At first, I loved it. But, the more I listened and compared to friends' systems, the more I noticed. Various steps, I including replacing the xpa-2 with Hypex nCores solved my issues. I hope to hear the gen 3's do that also (but don't expect my nCores up for sale anytime soon!) Mark I have read nothing but good things about the Hypex nCores. NAD is using them in their flagship series. Sorry if you've mentioned this before, but would you mind telling me where you got your amps and roughly how much? You can message me if this violates any forum rule. thanks.

Thanks. So the DIY kit from Europe is the only option then? I don't even own a soldering gun. Not handy at all.

I pre-ordered an XPA-7 G3 and will be doing a comparison with my XPA-5 G2 and my older (slightly flaky) Cinepro amp... If any Emo junkies in Northern VA want to join the "fun" of listening to random tracks while randomly moving cables around, drop me a PM and I'll keep in touch for when it finally ships/arrives). - M What speakers will you be using? I have a dedicated home theater with 3 Ed Frias EFE T-36s for my front and 4 DIY 2-way bookshelves for surrounds. Sub (which is not using this amp but for completeness) is a 6' 18" sonotube dual-opposed sealed DIY.

I built my own cases and bought my own extra bits (power line, power switch, XLR inputs, etc.). In total, for a pair of monoblocks it cost me about $1500, including import duties on the Hypex parts and all other materials for the cases I built. You can read about my build HERE(And the solders are very easy and very few...6 or so and not even on a circuit board...if you can't do it, you can likely find a friend to do it for you. It really is easy) Mark

If Mark can do it, anyone can!
(Just kidding!)
If you've ever soldered anything, shouldn't be too hard.

If Mark can do it, anyone can! There is truth in this...my biggest issue was my eyesight...being able to see the target. Darn bifocals! Mark

Emersa amps are B&O ASC ICE modules. The new EMO amps will have a LOT in common with others using the same module. So, if you are curious, find a couple reviews. Keep in mind how essentially worthless a review is, espcially reading it stone cold. If you know how your priorities mesh with the reviewers, than you stand a chance.
As for the new G3 amps? I don't see anything wacky here, either. They are essentially a power supply rework of the G2 amps. They may have slightly higher efficiency or weigh a little less, but otherwise the SOUND will be the same.
Audioholics had a blurb on the Emersa line with some minor detail.

Actually they are a power supply rework of the XPR line, so they should sound like the XPR's not the G2 XPA's.

I've held off posting my thoughts BUT I can't believe the crap Emotiva has taken in response to the release of their new line of XPA amps. Most of it is based on pure speculation. Pissy wissy about them raising the price. Geez, no one in business wants to NOT make a profit.
If you don't like what they are offering go elsewhere OR start your own audio company. Hire some top notch audio engineers, creative marketing people, sales team, support staff, etc. Design the amp and related gear that meets your dreams, build a prototype, tweak it, build a bunch and go for it. Oh, don't forget to hire that cost accountant who's going to tell you what you have to charge to make a profit and stay in business. Really people.
I happen to think they made some very smart decisions from a business stand point. Have they ever gone backwards before in SQ performance?

I don't know who has a beef with the EMO business model. Especially if you want them around for years to come. Hi-End audio is littered with companies that have come and gone. Many with good products who simply couldn't pull the trigger on making a PROFIT. It's not a dirty word.
The Emersa line? Should compare very favorably with other companies using the same, ASC300 modules. Adding a new front end for balanced / single ended switching is very inexpensive. (see the thread on opamps) EMO is bringing them in at a very favorable price point.
As for the G3 amps? Doesn't matter WHAT they started with. Point is that it is a LEVERAGING of existing technology. One of the best (but not only) examples of this is Honda. They make a Civic as a Sedan and Coupe models. But. The platform is shared among the CRv and Element (formerly) models as well as the Acura ILX. Other parts are shared around, like the Accord 4cyl engine / transmission in the CRv and Element. This keeps costs down thru economy of scale as well as making the life of the guy selling parts much easier. When I did brake pads for my Element, the fronts are used in maybe 20 other listings or more.
Informed speculation is a useful tool. Engineering wise, too. I worked semiconductor manufacturing for 35 or so years. Sometimes at a problem solving meeting, it would START with sheer speculation. As facts came in, potential solutions were 'zero'd in on and later acted upon. Root cause was the ultimate goal of ANY problem / solution scenario.

BasX will be revealed shortly - I am curious if it is using XPA amplifier technology, UPA, or something new entirely.
I expect our Chicago Lounge contingent to report in force.

BasX is a new amp design. Well, not new, but you get the idea. It's a classic, fully complementary design. This is a different and IMO, better performing platform.

I have read about anyone commenting on the sound quality going backwards, which would be a bit hard since very few have even heard one. You have missed the point completely on the price, the complaints from us Internationals is not what Emotive gets for the product, of course they have to make a profit otherwise they won't be around for long. The issue we have is with the difference between the price Emotiva charges direct and what we have to pay via the local distributor/wholesaler/retailer. Personally I don't believe that paying up to 3 times the price is "pissy wissy"
Cheers Gary

Agreed and we heard you loud and clear. And loud and clear..and so on and so on.
I love that Heather Locklear commercial:).
For Australia, Emotiva may no longer be a great option. Must be exciting times bc now it's back to shopping for the best deal! Usually a lot of fun is in the chase.

They don't expect to have to pay duties and import charges.. They have no idea what the exchange rates do. example-- The guys over on avs keep raving about a certain infinity sub driver, it's 50bux shipped there.. Here in Canada it's $170, they can't fathom why it's not a huge hit up here.. It really is time to listen to the big man and just move on to something else..
