Got to say, I'm leaning toward the five channel Gen 3 at this point.
I'd rather spend the extra $600 on something else, but I'm a buy-the-new-model type of guy.

Most European Countries have VAT = Value Added Tax the sum of whichis paid by the END PURCHASER. As a visitor, I PAID the tax, but was able to get it back after filling out a form and confirming that 1. I am not a citizen and 2. whatever I bought is going OUT of the country.
Our visitor from Hungary? Did the right thing and saved a LOT of coin.

Repeetavx & Srpawski My system consist of the following Definitive Technology BP7001sc (L&R) CLR 3000 (center) Supercube I (LFE) Polk Audio RT800I (L&R Surround) As previously stated I just installed the XPA five gen 3 and WOW. The Emotiva mates well with my speakers. They have a presence I have not heard with my Adcom amp. Interesting, as I have the exact same 3 front speakers, and I noticed zero difference in sound going from the amps in my Denon receiver to the XPA-2 and XPA-5 (Denon now used as pre-amp / processor only).

You may want extreme BASS or become a Detail freak. I like having the combination of both. Both my speaker based system and my portable system meet these two heavy requirements, as well as are very musically involving / non fatiguing (this is also a compulsory trait for those long listening sessions at reference levels IMO), neutral (you simply can't have massively resolving sound without real tonal balance anyway), natural and lively sounding.

I purchased it (the XPA-5 gen2) through a dealer here who payed the customs, the local VAT (which is 27%, chic!) but sorted out everything (www.hazimozistudio.hu). I received the amp within 3 weeks from ordering. He may have bought the amp for the original (temporarily reduced) price of USD 799,- I guess and reclaimed US VAT as well. I do not care because otherwise it would have been a pain in the ass for me to get this baby. And for sure he earned some retail margin as well (he deserved if). Peace.

I use an Onkyo TX-NR3010 for the processing. I have never been a big Denon fan just due to the processing (although your 3805 was a beast in its day). For me Denons never seem to have a open sound always felt as if the sound was compressed and muted. Now that being said I have a few friends that have Denon, they love them and say the same of my system lol. Everybody hears things differently. Not trying to start any trouble I do hear good things about the latest Denon line and would like to play with some of them. I have had my setup on a Pioneer Elite I believe it was the vsx-56txi internal amp and with an Adcom GFA7500. Now with the Onkyo both with the Adcom and now the Emotiva. Don't think I can ever go back to just receiver. Switching out for a new receiver made a difference as well. Elite was a 2004 model, loved that thing but finally got tired of lip sync issues and was just ready for a new updated processor. I feel processing for HT has really come along way. I noticed a difference in the sound just in the processing.

As per what I found doing a quick search just now, 1.2 volts.

I'm new here so I don't know what you mean referring to referencing your signature Many of us have our associated equipment listed in our signature. If you are using an actual computer (not a phone) you should be able to see at the bottom of each and every one of my posts there is a list of stuff. Look down below this post. Starts with my speakers. Welcome by the way.

So.. you've heard no difference at all using these amps verse the inbuilt Denon amps?

you've heard no difference at all using these amps verse the inbuilt Denon amps? Nope. Both my wife and I did extensive listening back when I bought the amps. No difference. Since then I've taken notice that most people here usually talk about how much their bass changes, how it gets tighter and deeper etc. But see with my speakers, an external amp has nothing to do with the deeper bass. An external amp is driving the mids and tweeters. And with 92 sensitivity, it doesn't take all that much to drive them.

When I first started following Emotiva I wanted the XPR 5 and just could never commit to the buy. When I was finally ready it was discontinued and the XPA gen 3 was coming out. Would have I liked to have the beast of wattage that the XPR 5 had yes but I am extremely happy with my XPA 5 Gen 3 Emo has a refurb XPR-5 on eBay for $1390 or best offer, that has your name all over it.

I have similar 3 front speakers, older mains but with powered subs built in, check sig. It was well worth going from Yamaha reciever to listed seperates. I even had to move speakers further from the wall to avoid too much bass. Improved imagery, soundstage, presence, etc. But I did not use the Yamaha as a pre/pro. I initially used the oppo as pre/pro, then added the umc-200. For music and DVD/bluray I prefer 7.1 analog from oppo.

I just got my XPA-5 Gen 2 yesterday. I won't get it hooked up until this weekend. Being I have self powered woofers in my Def Techs, I'll be interested to see if there is any bass difference. I can't help but not believe the highs and mids will sound crisper and more detailed and the center should also sound better and cleaner. I can turn my AV up half way and start to notice what I perceive is clipping.

I have never pushed it that hard as it is quite loud way under reference levels. Every other AVR I have owned from Yamaha and Onkyo have suffered the same fate that you are talking about. Distortion becomes noticeable and the sound deteriorates about halfway up the dial. Most AVR amp sections are lacking power and therefor when pushed they begin imploding

I just ordered a 3 foot 14 gauge power cable for it from Amazon. 6 foot is too long. Plus, I need to build my "make em' centered and pretty" shelf spacers to set it on so that 2 inches is below and 2 inches is above it and it looks Purdy and centered.

That makes a lot of sense, seeing as though that particular avr is built similar to a power amp.. the x805 series was ridiculously built. 5805 being out of this world for the amp section in an avr. Edit: after reading some test bench results it seems to be very similar to my x4200

Wow
What an amazing difference with the XPA-5. Regardless of how loud I put it, things stay clear and crisp. I'm not sure if it's possible, but I swear my tweeters are pushing air. I tested out a bevy of everything - Bob Dylan, Springsteen, Talking Heads, a little Ice Cube, House of Pain - it all sounds unbelievable. It doesn't have to be turned up to be clear. I have it plugged into my Panamax and it's fun watching the amp meter jump from 1.5-2.2 amps.
