PLEASE READ PRIOR TO VOTING IN POLL.
It was mentioned by bootman in another thread that this topic should warrant it’s own thread, so I’m making one.
Please read this post with additional links to get much more discussion thus far. There has already been a lot.

The basic idea is, what would you think if the XMC-1 could have it’s Zone outputs changed to also include the option for them to be used as 4 height channels? This question has already been brought up to Lonnie and KeithL directly and the basic gist of their answers is that it’s not an easy change; it would require some major overhauling, and it’s not really even being considered. It’s a lot of added cost basically, and the XMC-1 as is doesn't really support it.
Therefore, the potential need for an XMC-2 (name made up for purposes of discussion). The idea is that to keep additional costs to a minimum, the existing Zone outputs could just be altered internally so physical changes would be minimal. That’s the idea anyway, even if it’s not as easy as some of us had hoped. And then this specific thread to discuss it more, and a poll to better gauge interest.
XMC-2 = Everything the XMC-1 already is, PLUS:
- Be able to use the (4) Zone outputs as Atmos / DTS:X / Auro height channels with full use of Dirac for those channels
- HDMI 2.0a HDCP 2.2 on all 8 inputs (adding it in while they are at it anyway)
- Price TBD, but remain somewhere in the realm of $2750 - $3000.
- Possibly a few more things tweaked while doing the redesign, but not a priority for this thread’s discussion
I have made the poll a 5 part poll. Please answer all answers that apply to you. I’m sure I’ve missed something, so chime in with posts below if you want to elaborate further.
Thanks for your input in this thread.
Cheers ---- Bonzo
EDIT: The next to last 2 choices are getting cut off. Here's how they read in their entirety.
- Internal set up option of being Zone OR Height determined by final user (XMC-2 with them made “variable”)
- Would want both the Zone & Height channels to be available simultaneously, therefore, the XMC-2 for me would need a new back panel layout altogether.
