Voted "other" under the xmr1 option as I cant see the xmr1 coming for ages due to the dsp processing 11ch limitation . So could easily live with a upgraded xmc1 with 7.4.2 object decoding in the interim :)It would be better value downunder with UFL OR 40% compared to the likes of an Arcam 850 which would have a similar spec .. Now we are getting bds and uhd bds with atmos tracks the format is only becoming more entrenched and if ime paying over the odds for a new format I want to hear that new mix

You'll be wanting to keep an eye out for the Emersa and basX pre/pros. Details to be released shortly Other = Not interested in the XMC-1 or XMC-2, only the replacement for the UMC-200. Cheers Gary

There you go. In the end maybe a dozen people want Atmos. DOA in my opinion.

There you go. In the end maybe a dozen people want Atmos. DOA in my opinion. Russ Well, as mine does for you, over time your opinion has proven to mean jack schiit to me. Zippo, notta, zilch. You are the liberal Democrat to my conservative Republican (note: just a comparison, I have no idea which way you lean and that's not for discussion on this forum, nor do I care). The only thing I think we agree on is that we don't agree. Nuff said on that. You wanna bury your head in the sand about Atmos / DTS:X / Auro, feel free, I have no problem with that. But I'm interested in it, along with thousands of other people in the audiophile/videophile world. Are you gonna get all hot and bothered again by that like last time? Maybe you should have followed my prior suggestion. --------------------------------------------------------------- What I think all people here should keep in mind about these polls (as I'm sure most of you do in fact know), is that no poll on a forum like this really proves much of anything. For what ever reason people think these forums are like a huge representation of the topics population. Like what happens on this forum is everything Emotiva. That's simply just not the case. Even super popular polls on very active forums only get a few hundred votes. On this forum, a poll is super lucky if it gets 100 voters. More normal is more like 25 to 50 total. Then when you make the poll have multiple choices and various topics all at the same time, it's even more spread out. One thing I know for sure is if Emotiva only had 100 fans willing to vote in polls buying their stuff, they would go out of business right quick. That's not the case, which means we are missing thousands and thousands of voters here. What I failed to include in this poll is the question of what people's use of music to movies is. Like 10% movies, 90% 2 channel or vice versa. Just that alone will have a huge impact on reading the results. Hardly a single 2 channel heavy oriented person will give a hoot about height channels. Perhaps 80% of people on this forum are 2 channel people, I don't know. Or perhaps 90% of the people who have voted are 2 channel heavy people? I don't know that either. Perhaps another poll is in order? And another big question that will mean a lot is about people's environment. People who's houses don't allow for height channels are going to dismiss it faster than people who's can handle it. And does the 2 highest % of votes being people who basically already own the XMC-1 really surprise anybody? They bought it because it served their needs, plain and simple. Great for them. Truly. But in this particular poll that's not really pointing out what's important to the poll. Its the other 3 topics that matter more. But it is those 2 things that show who has what, at the moment at least.

I'm not interested in Atmos. The XMC-1 works very well for me; it just lacks 2.0a/hdcp 2.2.
What I want is a complete hdmi 2.0a/hdcp 2.2 board, not the 1&1 offered. The xmc-1 has no future without it.
My fear is they will instead come out with an XMC-2, with complete hdmi 2.0a/hdcp 2.2 plus some cosmetics; orphaning the XMC-1. Since I cannot afford an XMC-2, I hope the do deliver on the promised complete hdmi 2.0a/hdcp 2.2 board.
But EMO has a history of: * abandoning products, especially processors, after one season * promising upgrade boards, but not delivering * promising products that never happen.
Perhaps EMO will be so preoccupied with the RMC-1 and other projects that they can't do an XMC-2, so must provide the wanted hdmi 2.0a/hdcp 2.2 board to keep the XMC-1 viable.
So I'm very nervous. Sincerely /b

Bonzo- get a grip on it. I said "IMO". If yours or others differ so be it.
I live in the NYC area and belong to two audio clubs with well over 200 members total. And also include several manufacturers. Atmos, etc. discussed. No takers.
I also have setup many HT systems (courtesy) for friends, relatives. Again no interest.

I don't believe there is any home video software (Blu-ray or UHD) that outputs more than 4 height channels. The feature films with Atmos mixes should be (and as far as I know, are) re-mixed for home theater in a near-field mixing room with 4 height speakers. To design a processor with 6, 8, 10 height speaker channels is unnecessary. I doubt software will ever be available for that. For me, I like my wide speakers, even though derived and not actual channels. I'd like to see a processor that can decode Atmos but also allow for wide speakers simultaneously. And I'd like to have PLIIx music mode reinstated. Dolby's present Dolby Surround processing is designed for up-converting 5.1 movies to Atmos and is less effective as a music up-convertor. I haven't upgraded to a new processor yet because of those omissions from what's presently available.

Did the UMC-500 ever get released? I dunno, that seems longer than the usual 6 month cycle of the OEM AVR brands which is their usual "season".

The UMC-500 didn't come out as an Emotiva product, but there was something very much like it in the Sherborn line. Also, I would include the Fusion in the lineup, even though it was a receiver. The main thing I will point out is that the UMC-1, UMC-200, Fusion, and Sherborn variants were all based on the Cirrus Platform. The XMC-1 is the first of the TI platform. I would say they did a reasonable job of exploiting the Cirrus platform, but then moved on when it was clear they could do better with the TI platform. I fully expect them to milk the TI platform for all they can. The new Emersa EMP-1 is the first variant, I expect the BasX will be the 2nd, and then will come an even higher end variant (tentatively named XMR-1 right now but was RMC-1 and who knows what it will be really called when it is launched). UMC-500 = Nakamichi AV-1
I own one (as well as an UMC-200), it is an UMC-200 (which means the same CL platform) with all XLR-Outputs, integrated Bluetooth AptX and a Dab+ FM tuner (great in Europe only I suppose). Was a steal for the initial Price of GBP 199.
The Nakamichi AVP-1 is also VERY similar to the old Sherbourn PA 7-150. When it sold for GBP 400 it was also quite a steal imho.
