Lol. What happened to me being ostracized cause saying although great the xmc1 wasn't compete due to lack of atmos. Everyone said blah blah blah it's fine how it is Now everyone is rejoicing now that dan et al realized it was a smart business move to include it Now I am happy. And others are as well. And I'm excited for Emo. And glad they smartened up. It's gonna be a great great product! But let's not forget too long ago how people looked down their nose at me and other for saying this needed to be done. Not speaking for anyone but myself, yes for me the XMC-1 in its current form would last me for years to come as long as I have an upgraded HDCP2.2/HDMI2.0 board. Yes, as long as I'm in my current home, Atmos/DTS:X, will not be utilized, so I was very much fine with(at the time) that the XMC-1 would not be upgraded to immersive sound. I however don't know what the future holds, so if I were to move to a home that would accommodate immersive sound I would have no problem giving it a try. Who knows maybe the XMR/RMC or whatever we are calling it these days has an updated Dirac Unison which I'm very much interested in, so maybe I might want to sell the XMC-1(that now accommodates immersive sound and more attractive to a potential buyer) to off-set some of the cost of the new processor. With the situation having very recently changed, is it not ok to reassess one's decision? I do it on a daily basis. As for people looking down their nose at you, if you are saying I've been looking down my nose at you(please accept my apology), but maybe, just maybe you are confusing my intent that I was perfectly ok without an Atmos/DTS:X upgrade before Dan's decision to move ahead with an upgrade. Hopefully you now understand why I was and still would be ok if there weren't an immersive sound upgrade, but now that there is, options for all XMC-1 owners have now grown and now have new decisions to make.

No need to sit here and worry needlessly. But, Dan...what else would some do? Personally, as a Procter & Gamble employee, I've been concerned that your company restrooms may not include the latest version of Charmin. It is excellent. Soft, yet strong, an excellent value, and made in the most eco-friendly ways possible. I've also been concerned that your employees may not be using Crest, Oil of Olay. And, I was recently alerted that P&G noticed our shipments of Gillette razors to Franklin did go down when you grew a beard a while back. I think I will start a poll on what type of TP the Emotiva employees should use. This is a vital question and use of a proper TP is vital to the productivity of your employees, and we're all anxiously awaiting even more new stuff. Sincerely, Mark I can honestly say Mark that toilet paper is one grocery product that I don't settle on, and Mr. Whipple's Charmin is the only toilet paper allowed in my two bathrooms.

As I live in Australia would I have to send the XMC.1 back to the USA or will it be fixed here by one of your distributes here? Upgrades will be handling by Final Link in Australia. Now don't go and call them tomorrow asking about this because they do not have any info. yet... but they will! :

Mark, For the record, I am a Charmin guy! This post right here, may go down in lounge history, as the only time we felt Emotiva staff was sharing too much information!

Great news!
I returned my XMC-1 back when it first came out. The lack of HDMI 2.0/HDCP 2.2 upgrade path and lack of Atmos & DTS:X support (statement of it never going to support it) were why I did.
Once those things are figured out I would pick one up again. 5.2.4 setup with Dirac on all channels would be great.

Don't own a xmc-1 but wanted one but could not afford it at the time.
Just wanted to say that this right here makes me at ease with buying a emotiva reciever in the future!
Emotiva cares about what they sell! It's not all about the dollar!
I would really hate to see a product that took that many years to come out and be all that and a big bag a chips just fall to the side because of a new digital format cones out making it obsolete!
High fives emotiva guys!

How did I miss this??? Great news! I would like 7.4 and now this can be done! According to Dans first post, it will be 5.2.4 or 7.2.2, not 7.2.4. But I'm thinking 7.2.2 will be great if you place one height speaker centered in front of the seating position, and one behind. Gary Cook has said this works for his friend very well. When I think about it, my guess is you'll get 70-80% of what height channels are all about, maybe more. Of course the system will need to allow for this placement in its set up, but hopefully that's a non-issue.

Of course the system will need to allow for this placement in its set up, but hopefully that's a non-issue. Over the long weekend (ANZAC Day Monday Holiday) I helped out my friend swap his temporary recycled ceiling speakers for 2 Tannoy 90 degree dispersion concentric ceiling speakers. His system is 5.2.2, in a room with 2 x 3 seater lounges set at 90 degrees to each other, one lounge is hard up against the rear wall. One ceiling speaker is located about centre of the room and the other over the point where the 2 lounges intersect. The sound is really good, better quality than the commercial Atmos theatres that I have been to. There's object based directionality and it flows, the movement is what you would expect from what is viewable on the screen. I never once had the impression that I was missing something, or it wasn't quite "right". It actually surprised me when we tried it a few weeks back with temporary speakers, it's even better now with current generation wide dispersion drivers. The fact is not everyone has a rectangular room, with the seating layout and the perfect spacing for 7.2.4 speakers. In this room with that seating layout 5.2.2 doesn't feel (sound) in any way a compromised solution. Cheers Gary

Mark, For the record, I am a Charmin guy! As we all should be. The care that goes into that product is amazing. And, I speak for the many dedicated scientists and engineers who always strive to make it better, especially for #2. Thank you for your support! Mark

Why would the HDMI board be required to implement Atmos? Some streaming movies can do Atmos via ARC. maybe that happens on the newer HDMI 2.0(a) chips? Just guessing here and will try to see if it is a requirement.

I can honestly say Mark that toilet paper is one grocery product that I don't settle on, and Mr. Whipple's Charmin is the only toilet paper allowed in my two bathrooms. Here is a fun fact. When I got hired in 1985, Mr. Whipple was getting a bit old. And his hands...didn't look so good. So a friend, who hosted me on my visit that led to my job...31 years ago, had his hands stand in for Mr. Whipple's hands. He was an engineer, and I was intrigued that an engineer was at a commercial filming and yet did serious R&D work. A few years later, I was filming a diaper commercial on THE SAME studios as the original Star Wars was filmed on...with some of the same techies. Oh my....too cool. Before that, I got to film with Cy DeCosse. What an experience. Great guy. A genius..and me, just an engineer. Mark

Of course the system will need to allow for this placement in its set up, but hopefully that's a non-issue. I would think someone who currently has Atmos could go into the setup and let us know what options are available? How about it, can anyone with Atmos confirm if a 5.2.2 or 7.2.2 system can be configured as Bonzo describes? If it is possible to configure this way you could build for a .4 system – two ceiling speakers L/R in front and two L/R behind – then wire them in parallel (front pair together, rear pair together). This will cause the image to appear in the center of the two paralleled speakers – as if you had one (like a phantom center channel). The advantage being that you're all ready for .4 by just pulling the wires apart and hooking them up discretely when you have a .4 processor or receiver. Just an option for those who might be interested in the 16 channel, or other expanded channel unit later, but want to do the ceiling work once, now.

Obviously, I'm putting ceiling speakers up when I get the XMC-1 Atmos upgrade. I may not get the HDMI 2.0 because I won't get a 4K TV for a few years but I'm pretty excited about Atmos at home. Buying just one pair of Revel Performa3 S206 surround speakers and mounting it centered on my ceiling may work as this speaker has 2 sets of drivers firing at about 130 degrees apart. However, if there is front to back pan on just the left or right, just having one ceiling speaker in the middle may be difficult. Ok, I'm back to 5.2.4 . Every time I go to my local amazing "Xtreme" theater and watch a movie in Atmos, my 7.1 surround system sounds very "flat". I'm excited to see that this will change with my beloved XMC-1.

Would the side surrounds be used to matrix with the centre top to give the off centre sound you describe? If that isn't how it works, then 4 speakers or the normal config for 2 may be better.
