Hello everyone! Today, after 18 months of incredible pleasure of listening to my XMC-1, the right channel went dead. First, I thought that there was something wrong with the speaker cable, but it is ok. I've tried every possible option, believe me, but the right channel is dead. Any suggestion? I would appreciate any help you could possibly spare. I know you could tell me to send it back to Emotiva, but I am located in Bulgaria and that's going to be a huge problem. Thank you in advance for viewing this thread and possibly helping me out.

Bulgaria? OUCH...
I wish I could suggest a local remedy, but unless you want to entrust it to a local repairman (and void your warranty), it may be best to bite the shipping & send it back.

contact emotiva, not the lounge. give them a call and/or an email. they will give you the best option and I'm sure they will try to work with you. it's got plenty of warranty left on it so put it to use. I'm not sure but, (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) but for warranty issues, you only have to pay to ship it to them and if it is a true warranty issue, emotiva pays to ship it back to you. good luck, keep us posted.

Did every possible option include restoring factory defaults and then a complete power down with the rear switch?

Return shipping is paid by Emotiva for warrantied work to a US adress only. This is what I recall My recollections are usually more dependable then most people's facts, ,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,, but yes, a call is definitely warranted. good luck!

The right channel is totally dead. Not even a test signal. I don't think it is a software issue. Could anybody tell me what kind of a problem I am facing?

If you've already switched the cable at the XMC-1 (so the left speaker plays from the right, and visa versa) and the right channel is still dead, then you have to call Emotiva.

How have you rule out it is not the amp or speaker?

You say you don't think it is a software issue, so exactly what is it that makes you think this? The XMC-1, more or less, is a linux based computer and if you've been using it in the "Video Remains On" Standby mode then I'd suspect a factory reset, power down and re-start may clear this "Right Channel" problem that you are having.

That was the first thing I did. Same result.

So you did flip the output signal cable from to right to left to see if the problem is not the amplifier. Just clarifying.

I've done every possible thing except reinstalling the firmware. That I will do in a couple of days when I get back home from Easter holidays. Then I will let you know the result. Hopefully it is a bug in the firmware.

Hopefully it is a bug in the firmware. I have owned several pieces of equipment over the years and can recall a very similar situation to yours only ONCE and ultimately, the reason was not good. As suggested, aside from re-installing the firmware, if you have tried every conceivable option and, of course, depending on the inner workings and design of the XMC-1 and hopefully an easy solution is still available, based on my experience, when one channel is no longer functioning and the firmware re-installation doesn't cure the problem either, it could be a failed DAC.

Maybe a defective DAC?

If a DAC in the XMC-1 is defective, try playing a source through the Reference Quality analog input using Reference Stereo mode. As I understand it, that is the only path that does not involve the XMC-1 DAC. If that works but the other paths don't, then it could very well be the DAC.

You might also try a different (non-Dirac) "Speaker Preset".

Hopefully it is a bug in the firmware. Could you elaborate on the specific steps you have taken to rule out your source, your Amps, your speakers, and your cables? I have asked this twice and you have not answered. I am not saying if you do outline this that we will find a magic bullet, but until I know what troubleshooting steps you have taken, I cannot help. And there are many possible reasons for your issue that are not the XMC. They really need to be ruled out. Mark
