It's amazing to me how audio folks will sit around ad nauseam and debate over hearing over-embellished differences between amps, or DACs, or, well, CD players, yet question one's liking of physical media over streaming from a computer. I like shifting gears in a sports car, I like heating with a woodstove, both acts that have gone way of the dodo bird. There is however a certain nostalgia in doing things that, even though there's a simpler way, just bring more enjoyment vs. their more modern or simplistic alternatives. Just the way it is.....

But has nothing to do with audio. Let's agree to disagree, shall we? You apparently have some pent up angst that for whatever reason, caused you to jump in this thread and, to the point of being annoying, question why someone wants to enjoy something a way that they choose. Carry on....

Should some of those people just have the sperm and eggs mixed in a tube? I prefer the old fashioned way myself!! Bahahahahahaha!!!!

but right now I'm a CD player guy. Me too. I love my cds. I don't mind if I'm considered a dinosaur by today's standards. I don't care about streaming, or ripping my 6k + cds to a computer, phone, external device, etc. I listen to cds in the car, on the laptop, at home, and I still have these two I use when I go jogging.

My main music/movie system is not even in the same room as my PC (which has its own sound system). I choose not to mix them. I also do not have the time to put 200-300 CD's on my hard drive. I just changed over from Windows 7 to Windows 10, what a mess! I can't even now find where my photos are. I don't have a smart phone. My main system rarely has any issues. My computer system has a problem usually more than several times per day, what a pain in the ass! Sorry I choose to keep my CD's and their player ..... I'm so far behind!

This thread is CompactDisc stuck in ERC-1. You should be posting in this thread: ChuckieNut stuck in ERA-1980's.

Ha! My ERC-1 still functions! I ripped 300+ CD's to my hard drive utilizing JRiver and I get occasional pops and ticks like you would expect from a dirty stylus and turntable! Free analog negative side effects ...lol. ERC-1 sounds damn fine. Was not aware it had reached the end of it's service life and was beyond repair. Wailing and gnashing of teeth ensues....... sorry for continued derailment. Hope the CD is eventually extracted without harm to all.

I have the top off of it but need a 3 blade screwdriver to get the top off the loader/player section. No one in town has one. I might give EMO another email, just talked to the front desk folks who told me parts were no longer available. Someone mentioned they found a source for the Toshiba Loader in China here on the board, but so far I have had no luck.

I have the same Sony Discman. I've had it over ten years it still plays and still sounds great. As far as the ERC-1 goes if you can find the parts for it fix it. "lets make this last forever"

Call Emotiva (or measure the screw) to find out what size you need; they range in cost from about $2-$5 for the screwdriver (can find online if your search for "Tri-wing screwdriver").

I sent EMO another email yesterday , it seems some later ERC-2's are still under warranty, whether the loaders will interchange or not I don't know. If they will, I would be glad to pay them to fix it. I'll have to wait to see what they say. I talked to a gentleman in the front office (not the service department) whose name escapes me at the moment, who is the one who told me parts were no longer available.
Fingers crossed.
