Don´t care - never use either one. I voted knob and then thought about it and cant remember the last time i used the physical buttons/knob on any av equipment. The harmony elite handles everything.

After having my XMC-1 for a year, I don't think I've touched the volume "knob" more than once. Before that was the PT-7030, and the UMC-1, (which I think I rotated the knob twice), and before that my Yamaha DSP-A1 that I did constantly twist the knob on because it became intermittent.
But given a choice, I would prefer a knob for a SHTF back-up to a push button.
That being said, Lonnie and Dan, do what you need to keep the price down. Affordable sound is more important. (Ok, I did vote for the knob though).

I voted buttons because I'm not waiting additional time or paying extra for products to have knobs engineered that I don't use anyway. The remote is what I use and it has buttons, it's that simple. Plus it's very hard to get light dims over the LED ring around the knob.
Cheers Gary

Interesting that some post they never use the volume knob. Though I think partipants on this board are likely far more comfortable with AV than the average person.
Think about how obvious it is to use a AV knob, we all know it - standard use is if you keep turning you will go back to where you started, or for volume clockwise equals more volume. Buttons are often configured where one must press a different button to undo the action of a previous button which can easily confuse people not familiar with all the buttons. Knobs (versus buttons) are easier and a left knob to change inputs is HUGELY appreciated by visitors/ people who are easily confused by AV remotes. The left knob is just plain intuitive, especially on devices where unused inputs can be hidden.
Even as someone who is very comfortable around AV controls, I have three AV receivers/processors that I use multiple times a week - 2 of which have the left knob including an Emotiva 8100 receiver. I use the left selector knob almost everyday on both devices where available, and the family uses them constantly - they don't use the remote to change inputs on these devices - while the third AV device without the left selector knob is always confusing the wife, kids, and ALL visitors. We all tend to use the volume knob more than the volume controls on the remote.

Dollar? And we never mentioned anything about light dimming LED's either - you're really grasping at straws here. And none of that has anything to do with the question. The question is: you have EMO-DEVICE#1 with buttons, and identical EMO-DEVICE#2 except with a glorious volume knob. They are the same cost. What would you purchase? The mini-x has volume knobs by the way. If they can manage to keep the horrendous cost of volume knobs down suitably to offer this device at rock bottom pricing, then I have faith they can manage do the same in a higher end unit, such as a $1000 processor

It is obvious. What is your idea of tactile to you? Some love knobs and or buttons. Some flat panel virtual switches. Buttons, knobs, sliders etc.
Knobs and buttons for me at least are the most tactile. I don't even need to look at them, I know where they are by feel. Intuitive control, and ease of operation the name of the game. Your car, airplane, smartphone, etc. What are the joy of your controls, and pain Points? I hate virtual keyboards like the one I am using now. While big and easy to see. I am a touch typist, so virtual keyboards slow me down. I hate the ramp up/down of a volume via virtual control when a fine twist of the knob will do.
Cameras are the same way. I hate focus by wire vs. Just plain focus. When you do a pull, or slighted movement, it can jump around at times. Not good! Though virtual allows much design choice. Great. But more Knobs, and buttons is preferred, vs. Virtual screens and nested menus. Thank you.
