Despite my signature below being outdated I have a pair of pork RTI-A9's as my left and right channels, A Polk CSI-a6 center, Polk Dsw pro-12 subwoofer and Cambridge Soundworks s300's as the four surrounds. Despite most reviews of if the polks preforming better as home theater speakers, the A9's sound and perform perfectly when powered properly. The Cambridge Soundworks s300's were retired ten years ago and are a perfect example buying/investing a quality pair of bi/dipole surrounds that will last a life time.

I have the following: Audio only: XPA1-L - 2 of them. Amazing XSP1 - Amazing PSB Goldi - Absolutly amazing.
Home Theater: NAD 216 THX - Amazing 2 Channel amp. NAD 925 THX - Amazing 5 Channel amp. Onkyo TX-NR717 - used as Preamp. No issues and no comparison. Atlantic Technology System 270 from years ago - Awesome and again no comparison. 5 channels and sub with in ceiling rears.

KEF Q900 fronts with KEF Q600c center channel. Also I have built a pair of Seas Bragi mtm fronts and a Seas Bragi-based custom center channel that adds two Seas 4-inch woven poly Curv cone full ranges employed as dual mid ranges along with a custon x-over making the center a 5-driver 3-way layout somewhat similar to the upcoming Airmotiv C2. Pangea DS-400 stands for fronts left and right with the center on a reinforced shelf. The center channel is still a prototype since its DXT tweeter is fussy about baffle width to maintain its ultra wide dispersion and nearly flat frequency response. So far the center channel is the most frustrating build in my experience but I am hell-bent on getting it right. The final cabinets are constrained layer using two 3/4-inch mdf layers with Swedac damping adhesive between the layers with morebracing than spec. The final front baffles have an additional layer of a Corian-like material in the middle of the mdf/Swedac adhesive layers. Rear channels are wall-mounted Mission 77ds bipolar surrounds. Bass is handled by four RSL Speedwoofer 10S subwoofers daisy-chained and arranged asymmetrically in the room, plus a sealed CSS Subduction 12-inch sub with a 1000 watt external sub amp that extends down to 16hz -2db @ 115db with usable bass in the 12hz range (for movies, mostly). Because the Seas Bragi impedance drops to 3ohm in the bass region, I added three NuPrime STA-9 amps run in mono as ultra low loads do not upset them and they sound amazing with both speaker sets. The toughest part besides the (evil) Bragi center channel was getting all five subs volume adjusted equally to achieve the 75db in-room reference level for Audysssey xt32 room correction. Bass is ultra clean (since every sub is loafing most of the time) with no noticeable room modes and has a terrifying degree of dynamic headroom and concussive slam when called upon. The four Speedwoofer 10S subs seem to have no trouble keeping up and blending with both sets of front channel speakers which are both capable of portraying immense detail with excellent macro and micro dynamics. The Seas Bragi are incredible performers, especially when they are paired with a four-sub, RSL Speedwoofer 10S distributed bass swarm handling the bottom end. Because of their unusually wide dispersion (accurate frequency response close to 60-degrees off axis), nearly every seat in the room is in the sweet spot. With any luck, I will either get the Bragi center channel design finalized by June or I will be spending my summer in a rubber room. *sheepish grin*

I did some horsetrading last week. I found a pair of Infinity Interlude IL40s on the local CL. The guy wanted $200 for them or trades. I gave him a 6yo 32" Vizio flat screen tv and a crappy Samsung HD-DVD 720p player. After cleaning the grills and the towers they look pretty good. I'm looking for some new grills for it - hoping Harman Audio has some. The light charcoal color isn't my favorite look but the faux maple wood looks pretty decent. This is what they look like - image 'lifted' from the internet. Those grills look almost like the last pair of IL40s I owned - dark burgandy to match my couch and recliner. After buying the Emotiva ERT's I sold them. Decent speakers IMO. If you see a pair in your area for $200 or less grab them. They're pretty good speakers. They will never replace the song towers though.

Hey cgolf, have you had a chance o compare the Elac to your Ascends ? if so, what say you ? The Ascend 340s have a fantastic mid range and upper range. Very precise. The ELACs have more bass and the mid and uppers are a bit better also. I believe more cabinet space=better sound, bass...... The Ascends are great speakers. I am actually selling a fantastic front stage that would be great for a small room. A pair of 170s for L & R and a 340 for the center.

As indicated in my signature, I have a pair of 340s SE as my mains. The Rythmik L12 sub integrates very well crossed at 80Hz, well above when the 340 starts to drop off. This combo does not leave me wanting for bass...
The package cgolf is selling is a terrific LCR trio.

I have the kef q500. But I've listened to the kef q900 numerous times over the past 6 months so I'm familiar with the sound.
