I don't use ARC, but I do own the XMC-1 with the first board and plan to upgrade to the latest HDMI board when available. I do own an Oppo 203 and a 4K TV set and I've made it work. I have everything going into the XMC-1 except for the main HDMI output from the Oppo. That is routed to the TV. It's a two step process now when playing a bluray....switch to the correct input on the XMC-1 for audio and the correct input on the TV for video. Not ideal, but it works and we have gotten used to it.

If only more devices (in my case, the Roku Ultra and the PS4) had two HDMI out ports like the Oppo 203 has.

I looked into the idea of an HDMI splitter, but from what I've read, if any device in the HDMI2/HDCP2.2 chain is not compliant, then the video signal drops down to the lowest version detected. In the case of splitters, for example, if one HDMI-out port detects HDMI-2/HDCP2.2, but the other HDMI-out port only detects HDMI 1.4, then the splitter sends 1.4 through both ports. So in my case, I would lose 4k resolution.

So in my case, I would lose 4k resolution. If you own an Oppo 203, then you could just buy a 4K switch. Then your signal chain would look like this: Sources -> 4K Switch -> Oppo 203 HDMI input -> Oppo 203 HDMI Video output -> TV -> Oppo 203 HDMI Audio output -> XMC-1 Essentially, you'd be using the Oppo 203 as a splitter for all your HDMI devices. Once the XMC-1 upgrades come out, you can just sell the 4k switch and run everything through the XMC-1, of course.

4K Ultra HD 3 Way HDMI Switch Splitter HDTV Auto 3 Port IN 1 OUT (in Australia cost = $12) You can also use the TV as the in between (if you don't have a 203), that way you won't need a switch/splitter, as long as the TV has enough inputs of course. Cheers Gary

Out of pure curiosity, since I have neither 4K sources nor a 4k display, what will work with this current 2.0 board and what won't work that will require the 2.0b board? What would someone who only has the 2.0 board miss out on?

Cheers Gary Using the TV as a switch/splitter has audio format limitations, though. If you use HDMI ARC or the toslink output on your TV, you are limited to 2-channel PCM, Dolby Digital, or DTS. Lossless codecs and multi-channel PCM are not supported with ARC or toslink. If you use the Oppo 203 as your splitter, then you get full lossless surround passthrough to the XMC-1. Things will change when HDMI 2.1 gets introduced, which probably won't happen until late next year. It comes with an updated version of ARC called eARC (enhanced ARC), which passes through all the latest and greatest audio formats, including Atmos and DTS:X. Perhaps there will be an XMC-1 HDMI 2.1 upgrade at some point way down the road, who knows. Of course, you'd have to have a TV with HDMI 2.1 ports as well. Many people are very excited about eARC because it may usher in a new era where companies start making processors that don't do video switching at all. They will just have a single HDMI input and no outputs. You will connect all your sources directly to the TV and then have eARC going from the TV to the processor. This would mean that processors could return to focusing purely on audio like they did in the old days. That works if you only have 3 sources or so. If you have 7 sources (like I do) then TVs likely won't ever have enough inputs.

I'm currently using ARC via HDMI on the Samsung UHD TV to the UMC-200 for 4K Netflix and 4K Stan, works OK, Dolby Digital and DTS are OK for what's available right now. I use the 2 x HDMI outputs on the Oppo 203, one to the TV and one to the UMC-200. That works OK too, but there is bit of inputs juggling required, 2 stages instead of just one. But in a couple of weeks the Apple TV5 (UHD/4K) will be available, which means much more content and a higher proportion of lossless audio will be there for me to access. So very soon I hope that the XMC-1.4 with HDMI 2.0b board, ie: V3 board & Dolby Atmos/DTS:X upgrade, is available. Cheers Gary

Got this excellent clarification from Keith meaning you do get a certain kind of Dynamic HDR with 2.0b: HDMI 2.0b adds support for some extra color space and dynamic range options. HDMI 2.0b DOES support Dolby Vision (which is a proprietary version of dynamic HDR - which requires licensing.) HDMI 2.0b is also claimed to support the new/proposed HDR10+ (which is another proprietary but FREE version of dynamic HDR). Since these are the only currently available forms of dynamic HDR, and HDMI 2.0b supports them, I consider it fair to say that "HDMI 2.0b supports dynamic HDR" (Note that "dynamic HDR" simply means that "the HDR metedata changes from time to time" - although a standard may in fact define a SPECIFIC definition of it.) (This is what you'll be getting with the XMC-1 HDMI v3 video card.) So I guess the question now is which will be the eventual Dynamic HDR standard or have the most content?

I left a message with customer service, but in the interim... what version(s)of the XMC-1 will I get if I bought one at Emofest?

That's the one I got three months ago right after they announced that the HDMI v3 board upgrade is included in the price. I paid full price ($2499) so mine includes the HDMI v3 board upgrade.

Should be shipping with the HDMI 2.0/HDCP 2.2 on 1 input and 1 output (v2). V3 should be available within the next 6 months (uses the same board as the RMC-1 processor).
