$199 is a deal and I bet Loonie would literally hook up your PM-2s so you could hear for yourself! Oh the luxury of living so close!  Loonie? I'm not going to go out there and ask for Loonie. So are you going to try the direct drive mode? I'll be doing that this evening after work! |

Also note that the little $50 "tube amp" is a hybrid (which means it has a tube in it - but the output is solid state), and it now seems to have accumulated some downright horrible reviews. There are a lot of sub-$100 headphone amps around.... and some of them are even pretty good.... but don't get carried away.  KeithL, What about the new A-100? Have you given this a listen with headphones yet? This could be a tiny bit subjective of a question hahaha. |

Well, I wasn't able to get in on the "drop" of the Senn's. I tried at a point this AM when only 700 people had gotten in, but the system would not process my request. I tried again, same thing...again, same thing. I tried a 4th time and this time it looked like it would take, but it sat there processing for so long that the drop filled. Net, I didn't get in. Oh well, at least I know about Mass Drop and will get notifications of future options. I'll have to contact them to find out why my order would not process.

Mark This "drop" will be offered again, most likely, sooner than generally expected., I can almost guarantee it. It has proven to be too much of a fast "cash-cow" for Sennheiser/Massdrop to be allowed to expire only after one go. The server problems of this morning were severe and frustrating, but, to be fair, the buying processes are usually a lot, lot, less crowded at Massdrop than they were today, hence, a whole lot easier, with smooth, one-click transitions, as one would find here on Emo's site or on Amazon. Massdrop should have anticipated the heavy traffic and made appropriate preparations, Disclaimer: I'm just another average Massdrop client, and not any kind of business affiliate. |

Nothing actually beats hearing it for yourself! |

Oh I could only imagine the amp sounds awesome, I just highly doubt an employee would crap on their own gear no matter who it was lol, we all knew the answer before you even asked it of Keith haha, I have wanted this amp since they announced it, but we'll see what it costs up here in Canada that's if your new leader doesn't build a wall hahahaha |

So are you going to try the direct drive mode? So last night I took the time to install the jumpers on the headphone interface board and then the election results started happening, thus distracted and didn't try it out on "Direct High Power Headphone Mode". Fast forward to this evening, I used all of the same CD's/music I used the other night. The sound floor is still non-existent while idling and I'm noticing an even greater control(didn't think it could get better) of my HD600's while hardly having to turn the volume knob. I've demoed my Sennheisers on these headphone amps: Schiit Asgard 2, Oppo HA-1, DC-1 and only the HA-1 was able to match the control of the A-100. While I know the three above headphone DAC and/or amps are not necessarily a fair comparison, and I'm not the most knowledgeable in the headphone/amp realm but I'm ending my headphone amp search and sticking with the A-100/DC-1 pair. |

Any thoughts on how the A-100 would be with the AKG Q-701 (vs. using the XPS-1 headphone out)? I've been debating on upgrading my headphone amp, with the Schiit Asgard 2 in the running.

I realize this amp is not on your list, however, just wanted to toss the Marantz HD-AMP1 into the ring. I bought it for my Grados GH1s. The pair puts me into a musical bliss. However, I also craved something for my home office that I could have playing all the time along with using a phone headphone during the day. So, when the Aimotiv B1s came out, I ordered them and hooked them up to the HD-AMP1. Without a sub, the clear sound (at a lower level of course) is right up there with my old Polks LSi15s that were being driven by a Gen 1 XPA-2 and UMC-200. Bottom Line, the HD-AMP1 is a perfect little amp for your home office or study. Attachments:
