The Tekton brilliance are awesome, I love them. I love them so much so I am debating on selling my PSA Triax 8000 watt triple 15" sub to get the new Tekton sub painted the same ford gt 40 dark blue metallic as are my brilliance. I would love to keep the same line and have the color match but to get rid of a proven limited epic sub for the unknown scares me especially since to me I would think the 18" driver would cancel out the two 8" driver's in Tektons new 1600 watt sub. Dear audiophill, Can you post a photo of your Tekton Brilliance painted in ford gt 40 dark blue metallic? I am planning to order either Brilliance or Double Impact, torn apart between those two. I like the way Double Impact looks, I have heard that they are great, but I am afraid that they will dominate my room with 50' TV. The idea of Brilliance in dark blue metallic never occurred to me, but I cannot clearly visualize it. Does this color preserve the white color of the 4.5" mid-bass transducer? Does this white-blue combo look good? Of course, my main goal is to get great sound, but they will stay in the family room...

Over at Audiokarma they are raving about the Double Impacts.
If I can ever sell my Dalis, which model should I be considering? I know Audiophill says Brilliance, but what say the others? I have subs if needed and I have a big enough room to support the DIs. Any votes? Really just want to see what some Tekton owners say.

Even though these things are up for sale on their web site they still have absolutely no details on them. No Frequency Response, nothing. Check it out: www.tektondesign.com/nsub.htmlCasey

I am pretty sure you won't noticed much difference if either subwoofer is properly set. Another option is you could check with a painter and get him to give a price and see if you can paint your existing sub the color you want. Might cost a bit but could be worth it for a quality sub.

Since I can't seem to be able to sell the triax locally I just might see how much it would cost to paint.

The idea of adding midbass-capable drivers to a subwoofer has been done in another form already, in the Velodyne DD1812, and then earlier in the VMPS Larger Subwoofer. Some people often complain that their subwoofer doesn't "hit" them like a larger sound system does, and more often than not, the deficiency is actually in the upper bass range, as they are trying to pair small speakers with a large subwoofer to achieve both sonic and domestic goals, and small loudspeakers usually have limited dynamic capability in their bass range. Incorrectly set crossover and phase controls are also sometimes to blame; I highly recommend that serious enthusiasts purchase a system such as Dayton Audio's OmniMic measurement microphone system to visualize what their audio system is or is not doing.
These people who complain of not enough impact are best served by upgrading their speakers to larger speakers, not a different subwoofer. However, the Brisance subwoofer looks like it moves the additional midbass capability to the subwoofer cabinet. This may have drawbacks; upper bass is more easily localizable to the ear, so you might need two subwoofers operating in stereo as part of the front soundstage to preserve the stereo information and not experience localization of the subwoofer.
Integrating smaller drivers with the larger driver is not the issue here. As long as phase relationships between the midbass drivers and the subwoofer are preserved, and each system is optimized to operate within a frequency range where their dynamic capabilities are similar, the response will sum to a predictably flat curve, before considering the influence of the room, and it should not be possible to tell that multiple subsystems are operating independently.
It may also be possible to design a subwoofer with separate sealed and vented systems, with the sealed system covering upper bass output and the vented system covering lower bass output. Again, careful crossover work to integrate the two subsystems is key.

Brilliance is good but treble is lacking, pendragons have brighter sound. That's the difference I hear between the two. Soundstage is good on both and imaging as well.

After having the brilliance for several months now I have to agree the treble is a little less bright, however can easily be adjusted with your treble control on your pre-amp or in my case Dirac took great care of it and once again they sound epic in my system, in my room. I first thought that coming from Klipsch reference horn loaded speakers was the reason I was hearing less treble but I think it is more in part due to the speaker design, characteristic itself. However though without any treble adjustment even though they sound less bright they sound more detailed and three dimensional which I like! For a small or medium size room it's hard to beat these brilliance. In a large room then go for the double impacts, however I feel after hearing the double impact as well that even with all those tweeters they sound laid back in the treble as well. Attachments:
