Today Oppo released a new "Official Release" firmware version. Apparently more fixes since since the last public beta version. More importantly, just in time to use with my new "full array" 4K curved panel being delivered before 12pm on Saturday! Oh yeah, firmware link below. www.oppodigital.com/blu-ray-udp-203/blu-ray-udp-203-Support.aspx

Just for those of you wanting to know or are curious, as Big Dan has already verified this, I'm here to back it up, that Emotiva's Z-Series HDMI cables have no problem passing UHD/HDR10 content from an Oppo UHD-203to my 4K Samsung curved panel, both HDMI 2.0a/HDCP 2.2 compliant.

Absolutely fantastic article @ Acoustic Frontiers, if you want to find out anything and everything about UHD/4K/HDR10/DolbyVision/Color Space and more. This is a great read and IMO, a good resource in today's video world of 4K. www.acousticfrontiers.com/uhd-101-v2/

Does anyone have experience with the OPPO UDP-203 in terms of simple CD playback? (not ripped PCM but from a disc with the internal DAC: overall sound quality, dynamics, etc.). I plan to purchase a 203....
Of course I consider it as a UNIVERSAL player incl. (4K) BD/DVD audio-video/SACD.... Thanks!

According to a few owners on AVS Forum, this beta has introduced, unofficially, Dolby Vision capability to the UDP-203

Performed the update and all went smoothly just as with all my past Oppo uodates. Nothing noted in functionality but then I cannot test DV at present. Everything is working fine.

Most notable "fix" is video enhancement controls now work as intended for both standard and UHD Blu-ray Discs.
As LC stated, Dolby Vision has been unofficially enabled. Therefore, this is one of very few instances where, once installed, you cannot roll back from this public beta.

I'll probably be ordering a 203 soon but I was wondering - can anyone confirm if the 203 can play SACD-Rs? If it can't, I'll have to keep my BDP-83SE hooked up to play those and the multitudes of HDCDs I own (two that I know of).

It does SACD fine. Send them an e-mail - you'll get the best info from Oppo.

Official support of Dolby Vision with this firmware. From the Oppo product page: Comparing to the previous Official release version UDP20X-42-0329, the major changes included in this version are: 1. Added Dolby Vision support. A Dolby Vision enabled TV is required to view content in Dolby Vision. 2. Added Sharpness adjustment support for the 4K resolution. 3. Improved HDMI audio stability when using an HDMI Split A/V connection 4. Changed the color depth info display of the HDMI In port to 8b/10b/12b instead of 24b/30b/36b. 5. General fixes and disc compatibility improvements based on recent and upcoming UHD Blu-ray releases as well as user-submitted samples.

Official support of Dolby Vision with this firmware. Have you used the HDMI input yet? I'm going to give it go with my Xfinity X1 box when I get some time.

I'll probably be ordering a 203 soon but I was wondering - can anyone confirm if the 203 can play SACD-Rs? If it can't, I'll have to keep my BDP-83SE hooked up to play those and the multitudes of HDCDs I own (two that I know of). To answer my own question, the UDP-203 will NOT play SACD-Rs; it displays "Unrecognized Disk" when I insert one. Oh well. I just need to find someplace to put the 83 and keep it hooked up to my system. I experienced one interesting (and non-fatal) event when I first powered the 203 up. It indicated that new firmware was available so I installed it over the network and everything seemed fine. I played some files from my computer (using the 203 as a streamer) and then the unit froze. It was late so I just shut it off. The next day I tried playing some CDs, SACDs, and DVDs, and there was no audio at all (over the HDMI). After going through the setup menus and finding nothing amiss, I powered the whole system down for several minutes and, when I started everything back up, everything worked properly. So who knows what happened, but FYI. The transport drawer is a whole lot quieter than the 83 (which was replaced once). Now all I need to do is buy a UHD/HDR disk or two and upgrade my XMC-1's HDMI board.
