I broke down and ordered the BJ cables referred to above via Amazon Prime. Should be here Thursday. I will report back my findings. Hopefully they will reduce the time it takes to sync ausio and video. I'm also hopeful that the ARC audio will work also. Pardon my curiosity, but what cables are you currently using with the MC-700 Harlan?

They are mono price but I dont remember exactly which ones. I purchased them probably 7 years ago. They are pretty stiff but they do work for 4k sources. My hope is that delay in video and audio when turning on or switching sources is reduced/eliminated.

I have a question about how the MC700 applies EQ (I'm using EmoQ).
I have both a PS3 and PS4 for playing 1080 blurays since I don't have a 4k TV yet. The PS4 can bitstream lossless audio and seems to work fine. My old PS3 only does multichannel PCM. The only choice I have without the MC700 converting to something else is Direct mode. Does that mean I don't have EmoQ settings applied when using Direct for multichannel PCM? Is there any option that applies EQ to multiPCM and is still lossless audio?

Please report back, by all means, as I was considering the switch over to the Monoprice premium cables as a test, myself. I think your logic seems sound. I'm feeling like if the HDMI locking time is reduced, it's a good sign that everything is functioning optimally. And all the handshake confusions should be resolved. Honestly, i hate spending money on "peace of mind" items, but they're only $4 cables. Plus, I have to put a cable order in anyways, so my family members can pretty much have my old ones, and i'll test the new ones. (just musing as I try to justify the purchase....heh)

Just checked tracking - MC-700 arrived at the UPS distribution facility (15 minute drive from my house) this morning, but still shows delivery by end of the day tomorrow. I will post firmware rev as soon as I fire it up. Delivered! Firmware version is V2.8.7. My unit has firmware version 2.8.1 as I assume all first shipment units do as well. Did this firmware change correct the issues we experienced with 2.8.1? If so when can we expect it to be ready for distribution?

Apologies if this is a problem that has been dealt with.
I opened up mine last night. The audio on all sources: HDMI, Optical and Coax goes dead after about 5 minutes every time I start source material and requires a reboot. It locks the processor up some of the time requiring a power switch reboot. It has the current firmware 2.8.7 I believe. I went into the System menu and did a reset and this did not improve things at all.
Is this a know issue that I can resolve?

If you're losing audio on "all" sources, that's certainly indicative of a hardware problem. I think a call to tech support is in order.

The only other instance of dropping audio I'm aware of was caused by the MC-700 being located in a cabinet with no ventilation, you aren't experiencing an over heating issue are you?

Can you try and disconnect the HDMI input/outputs and use only Optical or Coax and see if that continues? If it doesn't continue you can remove them from the equation and focus on HDMI.

I'm in the same boat. I received my unit in January, and cannot use any audio, HDMI, RCA, etc. It works fine for a while, then I get white noise and locks up. Video is fine since everything is 1080p. For now, I am bypassing all audio. I asked for an eta on a firmware update, and awaiting an answer. If not REAL soon, I'll be returning mine. I went through the UMC-1 issues, but I never had an unworkable product like this.

I went through the UMC-1 issues, but I never had an unworkable product like this. Finally got around to watching a movie (1080p, DTS soundtrack) tonight and the same thing happened. Everything was great for the first hour and then I got blasted with white noise and then it went silent. Unit didn't respond to the remote, so I'll assumed it was locked up. Turning it off and on via the back switch restored the audio for about ten minutes and it happened again. This time, I turned it off and back on via the front power button and after a few minutes, it went silent ( no blast of white noise this time). Video was fine throughout. Prior to tonight, I only watched concerts and always jumped from track to track. This was the first time I watched something continuously, so not sure if this has always been an issue. I received my unit in January, so it has the original firmware.

Seems to be a somewhat common occurrence with the March batch, hope my replacement is OK.

I had a similar issue early on with audio drop out and some white noise, screaches, etc every 5 minutes. I didn't change anything wiring wise and it went away over time, maybe it needed some burn in. I did add some cooling to my rack, but the MC700 was under my amps and never had a measured temp over 80 degrees F. I have only had the audio drop out once in the past 5 movies I watched on my Oppo 203, not in as long as I can remember on my Apple TV. My biggest irritation now is no ARC sound from my Samsung TV. I do miss having good sound for watching The Grand Tour through the amazon app in my TV.

So I have firmware 2.8.1, can Emo give us a download for the current 2.8.7?

So I have firmware 2.8.1, can Emo give us a download for the current 2.8.7? I doubt it since Emotiva has not released an official firmware update. Also it doesnt sound like the 2.8.7 firmware version has solved much if any of the issues discussed in this thread. Better to wait for the official release.

Finally got my replacement MC 700 yesterday. Spent the evening setting it up and testing. My unit has version 2.8.7 firmware which seems to be shipping with the second batch of units. Currently I am not running any 4K content or have any 4K capable equipment hooked up. I am using HDMI input 4 and HDMI output 1 to connect my PS3 and TV. So far I have been able to get audio to work through an entire movie with no loss of sound. I also played around with my BTM-1 Bluetooth adapter and it works fine. Had it connected and streaming audio for at least an hour without it dropping out or loosing connectivity. I will be upgrading to 4K soon so we shall see how it goes then.

That's good news if they solved the BTM-1 issue. Mind sharing what type of device/phone you were using to connect via Bluetooth?

Hi all, OK, please let me address the random audio drop out issue that a few of you are experiencing in detail... Over the last couple of weeks, we've had reports from a few of you that you are randomly losing audio. We've been looking into this in great detail and have had a very difficult time getting to the root cause of the problem. We've had returned units sent here for review and test and they have sat here working perfectly for hours on end, days in fact! We were digging throughout the code looking for bugs, checking our the HDMI subsystem, the SMPS, looking for issues... I mean we were digging hard. It was very frustrating because we know you have had legitimate issues and we really want to take care of the problem for you, but we couldn't get them to fail. We've looked everywhere for the cause of the problem to no avail... Early on I noticed that the main audio DSP seemed to be warmer to the touch than I liked. Ray told me that he had already checked the thermal profile of all of the parts right away and they were all fine, and didn't I know that the the main DSP is supposed to run warm? OK, I said, but I don't like warm running parts as a general rule. So on the investigation went... Ray ended up with a stack of MC-700's running in the lab hooked up to various monitors and sources waiting for a drop-out so he could dig around and find what inside the box had stopped running and caused the audio to quit. It could have been many, many things... and finally, the MC-700 in the stack crapped out. Hooray!! We took a look at it and we saw it had gotten noticeably warmer than the other units because it was in the middle of the pile and was taking in heat from the other units around it. But, when we open it up to test it, it ran fine. Hmmmm.... Ray grabbed his space heater and blew hot air on the the unit. Audio dropped out out again! Hooray again!! We then took all of the other returned units that were working fine by themselves and heated them up and boom. No audio! Now we knew what was going on. I said to Joe Sr., dig out a stick-on heatsink from the parts bin and let's stick in on the main DSP and see if that doesn't make it happy again. So out he came from his magic box of parts with a neat little heatsink, and on it went to the main DSP, and guess what? NO DROPOUTS!! You can blast the units with the heater and they play fine! Problem solved. The weird deal is, that the main DSP is not running beyond it's rated temperature, even when the box is warm. So Ray is right. But, some of them appear to develop very small timing errors as they warm up and if they happen to get a little too warm, they glitch. That's why I don't like parts that run warm! Sometimes they do weird stuff. So, if you have had a unit with an audio drop-out and you've called in and have a service ticket started, you should have received an email from us yesterday with a plan of action to get your unit replaced with another unit that has had the magical heatsink installed on the main DSP. If you didn't not receive this email, please let us know and we'll get you sorted out ASAP. If you have a unit that is "glitching" and you don't want to be bothered swapping it out and sending it back, we'll be pleased to sent you the stick-on heatsink and simple instructions for installing it. Just let us know if you would like to do this. Whatever is easier for you, just let us know. I want to sincerely apologize for the inconvenience an the delay in resolving this issue, but it was very odd and not at all what we expected it to be in the end. As always we appreciate you patience and understanding. Regards, Big Dan
