.... Neither of these issues is a deal breaker for me but the sync issue is a no go. I am an audiophile first and foremost. Having the beginning of my music cut off due to sync issues is totally unacceptable. .... I'd be in the "keep it" camp if the sync delay didn't cut off my music. Agree with you. I need to buy another proc because my UMC-200 just died, and I´m considering MC700, but the cut off of the begginning of every music is a let down for me. And no workd was spoke from Emotiva on that issue. And it seems that is still happening in MC700. Deal breaker for me too if confirmed.

Those wondering about the no return button. I believe that the left arrow is the return, not intuitive from the description, but it seems to work for me.
Those concerned about the HDMI cut-off, Lonnie stated in the other MC-700 thread this was conservative Mute timing, and hinted it might be tweaked for better performance.
This is unfortunately the day and age of "technology" with too many variables. If HDMI was only a good specification, we would all not have these issues. Unfortunately we let the music/movie industry take away our freedom of signal for this terrible form factor.
At least the team at Emotiva is aware, engaged, and actively working on their products after launch. This proactive interaction is what I can appreciate and keeps me as a customer. It is to me a unique company in an ever increasing world of consolidation (e.g. The resent take over of Harmon by Samsung for instance). So I am willing to support them even though there might be some hiccups along the way.

Unfortunately we let the music/movie industry take away our freedom of signal for this terrible form factor. Agree that HDMI is a mess. However, my primary issue with the MC700 is slow lock on 2 channel PCM @ 44.1kHz over Toslink. That standard has been around since 1983 (34 years). Several years ago there were some processors that had trouble with slow sync lock. NAD had problems back in 2010-11. I've not seen it pop up in a very long time outside the UMC-200 and now MC700. I have a $180 entry-level receiver in my garage that doesn't have slow sync lock with my Squeezebox units over Toslink. If this problem hadn't been present throughout the entire life of UMC-200 I might have hope that a firmware update would fix it in the MC700. I suspect however that it is directly related the physical hardware being used.

We've heard the mute story long enough. Don't expect it to get much better. It's a recurring issue in Emotiva designs, including the XMC-1.

And yet another one in my family room that I use with a Marantz receiver. I have no sync issues whatsoever with any of these systems. Could it be an issue with only the MC-700? We'll need more information from others to conclude.

It's pretty simple to notice. Select any album, push play and then skip a track forward or back. You'll notice the first 1/2 second or so of the music is cut off.
The SB doesn't output signal between songs. The MC700 thus loses sync with the PCM steam. You can actually watch it happen on the OSD. The OSD pops up as soon as a song ends and displays "No Signal". It pops up again with FS44.1kHz as soon as the next song begins. The space between (when sync is dropped and re-established) is muted. Unfortunately the time it takes to re-establish sync truncates the first second (or milliseconds) of the song.
When I get back from my business trip in Friday I'll try my SB Classic and Duet to see if they have the same problem.
There are several threads on the slimdevices forum regarding this isssue between 2008-2011. Some receivers had firmware updates that fixed it.

If the sync issue doesn't get fixed within my 30 day return window I'm afraid the MC-700 is going back.
Can someone tell me, please, when the clock starts on the 30-day window? Is it the day your unit is delivered or the day it left Emotiva or something else?

Traditionally, the 30 day return window begins the day the product is delivered as the policy has always been "Try it in your home for 30 days...". But since all things are subject to change, you should call (or email) customer support to verify.

Things I've noticed/experienced:
- OSD: when audio is interrupted, as mentioned above, the OSD pops up when re-synced. I haven't noticed the chopping so will need to pay closer attention to that, however - I only want the OSD to pop up when I press a button on the remote that should bring it up. When listening to a CD (via coax digital in), the OSD keeps popping up between tracks. When fast forwarding or rewinding on the DVR, OSD keeps popping up. Not what I prefer it to do. - OSD: when you hit the "Info" button, the information in the OSD is different than the info when sync is re-established. The "sync" OSD info is actually better/more useful than the "Info" info. Would be nice if they added the sync info (number of channels, sampling and mode) to the Info info. - HDMI re-lock speed when changing inputs is slower than the XMC-1. Not as slow as the UMC-1 but closer to it than the XMC. - You can stay on an HDMI input but play from a digital input, like the XMC. I loved this on the XMC as I can surf via my HTPC, but play CD's. Just the OSD pops up between CD tracks can be distracting when surfing. Very happy they retained this functionality. - LED display could use some "spicing" up as it's rather boring in appearance
- movies - it recognizes the format of the movie (DTS HD, DD, etc...) but doesn't automatically set it to that. You have to check what mode it's at and then change it to the matching mode - movies - BR Lossless DTS HD and DD TruHD 5.1 are reported as: 3/2+LFE; DVD formats DD and DTS are reported also as 3/2+LFE - movies - BR Lossless DTS HD and DD TruHD 7.1 are reported as "7.1"
Nothing of the above is a deal breaker just inconveniences. I love mine and can't stop listening to it; the sound is true audiophile quality and just delivers in spades. Nothing 3x the cost of it can touch its audio performance.

Move the PC cable to the MC700's HDMI-in-4 (and switch to that input). Nothing is displayed on either TV input... except I do get a MC700 message saying no video (I forget the exact words). So... maybe the issue is at the front end of the MC700 connection for ins-4-6. Doesn't seem to notice the PC (nor the Oppo when I tried that). HDMI-in-4 is enabled (by default). When I first got mine going, the MC-700 didn't correctly recognize the HTPC. It displayed the video (but at the wrong resolution), no audio (youtube or anything) and Kodi didn't see it at all. I rebooted the PC and everything was fine. When you change HDMI's with the PC, try rebooting the PC (or the MC or both) and seeing if that corrects the situation at all. With the UMC-1, sometimes I had to reboot both before they were happy. So far I just had to reboot the PC the one time and it's been great ever since. Kodi and all.

Anyone have any thoughts on why a PC, with a Nvidia 970 GPU that has HDMI 2.0 (unknown HDCP, but not 2.2), does not seem to work on the HDMI-ins 4-6 and yet works on the more stringent inputs 1-3? I thought 4-6 were for "non-commercial" 4K sources (e.g.). The HDCP level of the GPU and the HDMI-in4-6's are sub-HDCP2.2, though the TV is 2.2. The TV is saying it doesn't see any input, not that it is rejecting the input. This might imply the 700 is not passing signal through. I have a GTX 960 and it is HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2 compliant. I know the GTX 980 is also compliant, but I can't find any definitive information regarding the GTX 970. keep in mind your main board chipset also plays a role in this. Quote below is from a Tom's Hardware Review: What brand 970 and brand and model main board are you using?

My Fusion 8100 did the same thing by default . Not the chopping issue, but the OSD pop-up was annoying with the Roku, which switches between audio modes depending if you are in the channels menu or watching a movie. In the 8100 there is a setting that allows to deactivate this function, it might be the same with the MC-700. In the Fusion 8100 is in the "setup" menu under "Option". It is called "OSD Pop-up" and I selected "no audio info". On the 8100 remote the "display" button brings up the same information via OSD and I prefer it that way.

That cant be right. It took them 46 days to ship it. Yep you got it. They need to change the policy from purchase date, to delivered date. And while they are at it, review the warranty as stated online (they currently state every product but the Fusion 8100 has a five year warranty). I am seriously considering an MC-700, especially since first reports are the stereo performance is great (I am in a small listening/HT room and need to minimize components), but the current reported bugs/return policy/warranty statement inconsistencies kept me from pulling the trigger during the holiday sale.

Agreed MC-700 is slow to re-lock on 2 channel PCM over Toslink when my ERC-3 goes on to next track. It should be easy for Emo to duplicate given it happens with their own CD player...

Found that in the settings and turned it off, much better now. I did confirm the chopping of the first fractional second of the next song (via digital coax). You have to have it on a song that starts out strong right away to notice it. Songs that slowly intro in are very difficult to detect it.

I'll recheck my XMC-1 again, but have not really noticed a loss of first Second or less of audio on any of my music playing devices.
For those who can't stand this issue, you may want to Give Emotiva a call. They don't always follow these threads.
Maybe they can fix it in a firmware update.
