But the company can't survive with the sales they'll get from Lounge members. We may be a market research tool, but for less than 5% of their market. Our opinions get weighted accordingly.

I'm almost certain that I will be still enjoying my XSP-1 long after any of the current DAC's are obsolete and probably several generations of DAC's after that. I view a pre amp much like I view power amps, they are a decades worth purchase. I'm not going to be forced into replacing it just because there is some new format or copy-write protection or compression algorithm or interconnection cable or wifi/Bluetooth standard or any of the other ever changing digital media protocols. It's still going to sound just as good in 10/20/30 years as it does today so I can justify the cost of a very high quality pre amp. Digital gear on the other hand I see as disposable, keep it for a few years and then dispose of it without regret because I have no real investment in it.
As for us lounge lizards being a marketing test group, we are relatively early adopters and as such represent a pretty good basis to sample ideas that the average Joe may well reject out of hand. Or perhaps more likely not even understand how or why it fits into their life. Not suggesting in any way that we should be solely relied upon for feedback, but just that a little more weight may well be justified. A call for those who investment is on the line to make.
Cheers Gary

Hi RichGuy - I'm not actually trying to change anything. Emotiva listens to me less than you listen to your wife (figuratively speaking...). As I said before, what the Loungers want (or don't) has little to no influence on what features Emotiva products have (or don't have). Emotiva does market research on what will sell and what won't. Regardless of our wishes, if they don't expect a large sales volume, then the component won't be produced. Emotiva may well produce an XSP preamp in perpetuity in a completely analog format - or they may not. Regardless, my opinions (or yours) don't figure into those types of design considerations by Emotiva. So fear not that my hifalutin' opinions are going to carry any weight with Emotiva - they don't. The XSP-1 is a wonderful (all-analog) preamp. It's a bargain for its price and I'm glad that you enjoy yours. Cheers - Boomzilla I never felt you have any special influence of any change from Emotiva anymore than anyone else as you are only a member of this forum just as pretty much everyone else here. But just as you voice an opinion here, I voice mine and I strongly disagree with you, as usual it seems. Personally I believe Big Dan and the powers that be of Emotiva feel just as me that the XSP-1 should remain pure analog as this is and has always been its intended design and how it is marketed. If you want something else ask for something else entirely, as the XSP-1 is intended for a different market than what you seem to be looking for.

I have a 4TB Synology DS216j NAS that has a folder called "Music" on it and it has all my hi rez FLAC (everything up to 192/24), APE, WAV & DSD(64, 128) music on it along with iTunes and WMA music and on both Marantz units, all my Oppo's I can see that folder and stream that file to it and let it do the decoding with absolutely no problem. FLAC stays FLAC, DSD stays DSD, etc. no transcoding or anything, the untouched music moves as data and is decoded at the other end by the DAC of the device streaming it. my NAS and everything I have that has an Ethernet jack is connected via my Cat6 wired gigabit network and I live in an apartment and have 2 bedrooms, living room, dinning room hardwired. I can also stream it untouched outside of my network to anywhere in the world with internet access. I've streamed stuff to my job from my NAS! so, yes, it can be done! by the way, my NAS & my 4TB drive were about $315.00 and took about 30 minutes to set up and I was rolling as soon as all my music was transferred from my old 1TB NAS to the new one (over the gigabit network). it's not as hard as you think. good luck! Huh. What DLNA Server are you using? My friend tried a whole bunch. Casey none, I simply put my music into a folder called music and from any device I use to listen to music which are either of my Marantz units or my Oppo 105 and they stream the music from the NAS "music" folder to their individual DAC. like I said, I have the NAS setup to my wired gigabit network and I play music in every room in my place, untouched, not transcoded or anything. I can even select music to play off the NAS with either the Marantz or Oppo apps as long as they are going to their respective devices. it's not fancy, not necessarily pretty, but, I'm not looking at the music, I'm listening to it. best of luck!
