I will take a disc in hand any day over a downloaded file. Even if the cd does go away as VNeal says (which it won't) I will continue spinning them for decades to come...and feel good about it! Tim I agree with you Teaman, i suffer when the roku/chromecast drops signal while watching a movie because my router needs reset and i have to wait like 5 min to have internet again. Nothing beats putting a cd/dvd/bluray and enjoy, well of course if the power goes out that's another story. Ummm...you need a new router. Really... Mark

The eighties were good but the cars were terrible Hmm.. I really enjoyed my Triumph TR6 but it did have a habit of chewing through fan belts... I always had 2 spare in the small trunk! Great car to toss around corners. Mine was eggplant color and quite a chick-magnet!

]Ummm...you need a new router. Really... Mark That is what i keeping telling the people from comcast. But is a brand new router/modem from them, i had a separate router that i used in bridged mode but when i have to reset the modem, i have to reset everything in the chain, the modem, the router and the device, so is less aggravating when i only use their kodem/router. At least inmy house where comcast has a monopoly because of the hoa, it is really a pain

I would think at least the comcast incoming signal and hard line out would be stable. Then you are not reliant on comcast's wireless portion. I do this and it works fine. Occasionally Spectrum's signal goes down (3 times in 2 years) and I have to reboot the cable modem, but it works. And, you can get amazing wifi routers these days. If you do this and their line in is failing frequently, I would be talking to them about that! Mark

The CD-100 is now on the website for purchase. The price is very good IMO From the specs, it's using a different DAC than the ERC-3. The THD is also rated as marginally more. To human ears, assuming the unbalanced outputs are also used on the ERC-3, is there a difference?

Nice work =) I've always been a sucker for the amber illumination on Pioneer Elite gear. Oh, and I'm also a sucker for paying the premium price for Pioneer Elite gear even though, historically, it often was nearly identical to non-elite models.

Does this unit have a separate on and off power remote signal capability? Or is there at least a Logitech universal remote configuration that can be downloaded to that device? I'm ready to push the trigger on this one except for that concern.
And, yes, some of us out here have massive CD collections and still very much find a CD player of relevance. Using my home-theater disk player isn't an attractive option because I often stop DVDs mid-movie and don't want to use that unit for other purposes.

I've been in the market for a new CD player the past month. The CD100 was a consideration for a minute until I realized no balanced and the DAC was different from ERC-3. In all fairness at $300 I didn't expect it to.
Next up for consideration was the XRC-3. I love the DAC in my D.C.-1 and I really wanted to stay XLR balanced soup to nuts. Here is where I got stuck. $500 for a great CD transport was great except I have a bunch of SACD's and I didn't buy them to listen to the hybrid layer. For $1000 I'd have bought the XRC-3 had it played SACD.
There was a close tie of the oppo bdp-95 and the Marantz SA8005. In the end an hour ago I snagged a like new in box oppo bdp-95 for $600 on eBay. Maybe I'm wrong but I assume it would be important to Emo to hear input from their customers as to the criteria being used in making decisions to buy products. Honestly I was disappointed there wasn't an Emo alternative for SACD but I also understand that oppo dominates the universal disc player market and marketshare is limited at best.
EDIT: in all honesty I have XSP-1, dc-1, XPR-1's and I really wanted the XRC-3 to complete the package of the reference system. I'm not criticizing Emo for not offering SACD given the market. Was more just blurting out my thoughts bc I'd have really preferred to purchase an Emo Reference offering. I know that I don't speak for the masses and the bass X line is geared towards simplicity and great sound quality. Just venting as a dinosaur I suppose. Maybe I will buy the XRC-3 just bc it matches the rest of my blue gear....

The Emotiva CD players don't play SACDs but if your looking at the ERC-3 take a look at a ERC-2, they come up for sale rarely, there is one for sale now on the forum. The ERC-2 is balanced and played through your DC-1 I don't think anybody could tell the difference. Ive owned both CD players and the DC-1, I still have the ERC-2 and DC-1. Saved some coin and sounds great. SACDs I play through my Oppo.

First, the ERC-2 is an older model and is a slot loader, ( I love slot loaders too ) and I believe the DACs are different. That said, I think the ERC-3 and DC-1 share the same DAC. If not the same they sound extremely similar. The ERC-3 has a drawer loading mechanism on the right side of the face of the unit.

If you like the sound from the 95 sabre dac you can use the balance connections to the xsp-1. No need for the Erc-3. PS: I forgot that DSD needs HDMI. So the sacds can play directly to your xsp-1.

I bought the oppo 95 bc I prefer the sound of it over the 105 on stereo CD playback. The 95 seems more natural sounding and the 105 was a bit harsh (slightly. I'm splitting hairs here) by comparison. I plan XLR from oppo to XSP-1.

OK, there does not seem to be a Logitech Harmony config. available in the Harmony online database for the CD-100 yet. So, here are a couple of other questions. Logitech does have config. downloads for ERC-2 and ERC-3. Would these have the same power/standby remote codes as the CD-100? If so, are there discrete on and off codes in that download (or does the CD-100 even support discrete codes)?
Also, too much to hope for, really, but an eminently sensible feature for which to ask: is there some special key combo (like click the Power key while holding down the Stop key) to get a discrete power off (more accurately discrete go-to-standby)? Probably not since there's nothing documented, but worth asking for anyway.
Actually, I do not have a Logitech Harmony - I use a Universal Remote device, so I may not be asking the complete correct questions about Harmony. To get the codes into my UR device, I would have to have my neighbor download to his Harmony and then use UR learn mode to pick up the codes. Maybe one can tell from the Logitech online database if discrete on/off codes are available, but I do not know how to find that information, so I'm hoping somebody here can offer authoritative guidance. I really would like to send in an order for the CD-100 (and soon since my current CD player is in its death throws), but will have to go with some other brand if I cannot get this question answered fairly quickly.

Good info from the Podcast today on the Emotiva CD-100. My biggest question was what type of transport does it have. It has the same one that is in the ERC-3. That is a very good thing because the transport on the ERC players are high speed with high power laser. They may get loud at times with there speed but it will play deep and it gets those 1's and 0's and offers them up to a great DAC and analog section. The CD-100 is single ended just like my USP-1 and UPA-2. You do not need balanced analog out on a CD player that is used with a single ended preamp and amp.
The CD-100 does not have the same DAC as in the ERC-3. The ERC-3 has a balanced DAC and Analog system. Analog output from a CD-100 is single ended but the digital output from the CD-100 into a balanced DAC like the DC-1 will get you balanced analog from the CD-100.

So, since the previous post was from July of last year, I take it this thread is dead??
Not one user review in the CD100 here. Very disappointed that nobody at the Emo lounge either bought one, or reviewed one. Very strange.
