all your guys gear is way older than me. I can barely remember 1996 What an amazing coincidence, Bigred! I can't remember 1996 at all. (I was born in 1944). 1956 is still quite clear though.

Yep know what you mean. That was the smart way to buy. I should have probably done similar by buying boxes of reel tape pancakes and just reflanging. I still can, just harder these days.

I for one would like to get a closer look at that Phase Linear 700B. That's the one I lusted after when I was in college but couldn't afford. I eventually got myself a 400 though.

^^^^ nice picture . I recall you mentioning that you have replaced the storage caps on that. Have you had to replace anything else? For example, the meter light bulbs...since that was from an era predating led's.

For example, the meter light bulbs...since that was from an era predating led's. The caps were replaced, and the output devices were upgraded to Motorola MJ15024s. This was done by the previous owner. One of the eight bulbs in the meters is out, but I'm not sure how to fix that.

I have a set of Energy 22 Reference Connoisseur speakers doing front L/R duty. They are pushing 25 years old. They were $3K when new. I couldn't afford them then.
Bu the time I could afford them, they were out of production, but I found a set (new, old stock) that had been at the Energy warehouse for 15 years. I paid $600 for them 10 years ago and haven't looked back. The guy who sold them to me had a side business rebuilding the tweeters (the coolant dries out after 10-15 years) and he rebuilt the tweeters before he sent the speakers to me.
The rears are Energy 22 Ref Pros. I will retire them when the 2 sets of ERD-1s arrive.

The light bulbs on my Phase 400 were soldered in place so I would imagine the same holds true for your 700. I didn't keep my Phase 400 long enough to need to replace them. I bought it in 1976 and traded it in on an Ampzilla IIa in 1980. The only reason I made the switch was because that 400 didn't seem to like driving a pair of Magnepan Tympani 1d's. It kept blowing the maggies tweeter fuses.

Well, actually, Here's a picture on one of them. I would have to clean up the room in order to get both in one shot. How about two pictures of one speaker?

yep . . those are the ones I remembered . . I wanna give them a big hug . . . I'll hug the left one for you. I'd have to climb over two acoustic amps to get to the one on the right.
