I got this classic Nad 7400 working again as a Preamplifier till I get the USP-1, and selling my Vincent SA-T1 Preamplifier. Amazing this thing still works and sounds good. But the USP-1 should be way better. ;D

Thanks rather, it has served me well. Was one of the older Monitor series and was the really the business before NAD messed up their philosophy and got expensive. I still have an old NAD 502 CD player that still works and has never been for service at anytime and it is older than the NAD 7400 I have. Just amazing stuff.

I remember listening to those when I was auditioning speakers in the mid 80's. I ended up with Magnepan MG3a's at that point, but those polks always sounded really nice as well. I remember them too around the 80s. They were the most memorable speakers that I had heard. The store was playing "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" which was something I had no interest as a metalhead at the time but it did sound impressive! They were huge SDA towers. Doug

Some of my Vintage gear that I still love: Pioneer DT-5 Audio Timer, CT-F950 Cassette Deck, TX-6800 Tuner and SA-6800 Integrated Amplifier. I made the cabinet for the audio timer and replaced the peeling vinyl veneer on the other three pieces with real red oak veneer. This system now resides in my bedroom with a pair of Pioneer HPM-40 speakers. Complete vintage setup. Marantz Model 125 Tuner. This was a yard sale find. I replaced all the electrolytic caps in the power supply and preamplifier and replaced the dial and meter lamps with LED's to restore a nice cool blue glow. Also the "FM" switch was broken so I replaced it. I built the cabinet for this as well because it did not come with one. I'm a sucker for red oak. I think gear dressed in wood can look really nice. Below is the same tuner with the first cabinet I built for it. This one was finished in Minwax Red Mahogany stain. Pioneer PD-M90X CD Player. Pioneer's first multi-disc cd player in their "Reference" series of components. If you're not familiar with the "Reference" series, it was Pioneer's pre "Elite" line.

Some great old stuff.
All I have is "classic gear".
Nakamici CR-5A, OMS-5A, CR-5A, ST-7, PA-5AII driving Canton Ergo 32s w/AS-2 sub Carver CT-6, TFM-45 fed by Denon TT, SME arm w/Shure typeV &Sony ES CD, driving Canton CT 2000 Carver TFM-6cb (4) Driving Canton Plus S & Plus C, Canton Plus D, Canton Plus F (2)
Hard to get service especially on the Nak CD & deck so I'm going to take the plunge in the next month or so on the new USP-1, XPA-3 & ERC-1

Do you have any pics you could post. I also have a Carver C-1 preamp and TX-11A tuner. The pre was replaced with the Emo RSP-1. I still own it and have no plans to sell the C-1. It has been trouble free. The TX-11A is in my main system. This tuner has been flawless and is my favorite of the 3 tuners I own. I see that you have a Shure V15 V. I have the V15 IV and love it. I've read that the V is even better sounding. You really should try to post some pics of your gear. I'm sure we would all love to see it.

I have more Carver gear sitting in the basement. C-2 pre-amp, 2 M-200 amps, TX-2 tuner (display dark), DTL-50 CD (drawer doesn't open)
Just gave a CT-26 pre-amp tuner and TFM-200 amp (one of the frw calss A/B from Carver) to my son-in-law along with a pair of Celestion Sl/3s
I'm sure I'm forgetting something else that's laying around here. My wife is always trying to get me to sell the stuff on ebay but I can't part with it for pennies on the dollar so most of it I just look at from time to time, wane nostalgic and then give it to a friend or a friend's kid when I think they'll appreciate it.
Speaking of nostatgic. That Pioneer gear brings back memories. My first foray into "Hi-Fi" was a Pioneer SA9500 integrated amp with Tx-9500 tuner and a CTF-950 just like the one pictured. Think they all had rosewood end caps though. Drove a pair of Dalquist DQ 11s or something like that. "Phased array - time alighned" panels with little bass response. My wife hated them!

wow did you ever do a great job with that cabinetry. I had some Pioneer and Marantz gear of that vintage..a Pioneer CTF-900 cassette deck that looked almost identical to that 950. That 900 was the first Pioneer component to use those florescent meters. Those were quite impressive at the time..still look great today.
I also had a Marantz 2230 receiver with the same look as your marantz gear...minus the impressive cabinetry though.

The original Oracle turntable..made in Quebec. With a Magnepan Unitrac I tonearm and Shure V15 type V mr cartridge. Not many people know that Magnepan actually did make a very impressive carbon fiber tonearm. It still works great and is hooked up in my main system. I seldom use it though.

+1 I have to scan some of my older vintage gear later. Right now I'm off to Manhattan to visit the local Homeland Security Office.

Let's see here..I'm doing this from memory but the turntable itself was $1100.00, and the tonearm was $300.00. That was about 1980 or so. I went through a number cartridges on there...let's see..at first I was using a Great American Sound Sleeping Beauty, and then a Denon 103D moving coil. The current Shure V15 Vmr was added after CD's came in ...I know it was a 25th anniversary V15..special edition thing that came in a fancy walnut box. Since the original V15 was introduced in 1964...this 25th anniversary one must have been from 1989. I bet it doesn't have more than 10 or 12 hours of total use on it since then.
