I noted the "time counter" and that made me think "time machine"...as in, there's a trip in the wayback machine, Mr. Peabody! Seeing an 8-track makes me recall the time I stayed up almost all night building a radio for an older relative to give to his grandson at Christmas. I was maybe ~15. I listened to the newly released Queen "News of the World" on 8-track cycling over and over as I soldered away through the night. My power source was a Heathkit amp my Dad had built years before, with speakers he had built also. I wish I had pix of all that! what a great story . . .cool

Wow rather lots of memories from your machine there. Way cool. Fun to hear, but not so great to record on when you run out of space on the track. ah well . . . its a great sound though . . . the classic "warmer" sound compared to most digital . . . hope I can find good media for an afforadble price. . .

I don't really know. All I did was open it up and clean it up inside, looking for something burnt or leaking. It must have just been a corroded contact on one of the board connections. It's basically a dual-monoblock design inside, and the preamp and power amp sections can be disconnected from each other, so you can use it as a preamp, power amp, or integrated amp.

Size matters......especially meters!! ;D I love the look of large analogue meters on an amp. I've only had them on two in my 30 some years of audiophilia. A Phase Linear 400 and a G.A.S. Ampzilla IIa

So at a local thrift store, there were two CD players with 1986 manufacture dates on them. The first was a Yamaha CD-56 and the second was a Sansui PC-V750. I threw the Yamaha on a scale (don't know if it was accurate) and it said it was 10lbs. I didn't check the Sansui, but if anything, it was a little heavier. My question is, were these CD players built with higher quality components (pwr supply, DAC) than most of todays, or would the fact of them being 13.5 years old make their quality degraded? Anyone have experience with older CD players used recently?

Anyone have experience with older CD players used recently? My first CD player was a Denon DCD 1800R that weighed it at like 25 pounds. It was a beast and VERY heavily built. The disk tray was metal, not plastic, as were many of the internal parts. I traded that in long ago...but I'd like to have it now and compare it's sound with some of today's best. The DAC's were definitely far less sophisticated and powerful than what is available today, but the physical build quality was outstanding as was the analogue section.

If you are looking for an older CD player, I would recommend the JVC XL-Z1050TN CD Player with the K2 interface. www.lampizator.eu/LAMPIZATOR/REFERENCES/JVC%20XL-Z1050%20K2/Lampizator%20JVC%20K2%20%20XL-Z1050%20CD%20Player%20with%20XRCD%20dac.htmlJust ask Rather..............................

What a great thread! The Nak 1000 almost brought a tear to my eye. Whatta beauty! Here's half of the main speaker pair I'm usin'. Got 'em from the factory back in '84. After replacing the foam surrounds a few years back they're still goin' strong. Here's a link to the L250 brochure in case ya wanna see more. lansingheritage.org/html/jbl/specs/home-speakers/1982-l250-b460.htm
