I watched the movie over the weekend with my daughter (an early father's day thing as I'll be traveling this week for 4 weeks). I thought this was a very good movie with the sound level perhaps being a little too loud. As for Ms. Gadot, I am impressed. She certainly has acting ability and when I found out that she was pregnant when filing the stunts, I was very impressed. Her expressions were believable and somehow I doubt she wasted the producer's time with too many retakes. Definitely my daughter liked the movie, without caring about PQ or SQ.

The WW soundtrack could be summed up with a quote from another fantasy movie (one that also featured a heroine) - "Boom - Badda Boom - Big Badda Boom"

We were going to see wonder w. After reading the mummy review.....a movie I've been looking forward to seeing for quite a while trashed by the reviewers. Then I went with my gut instead and stuck to the plan and saw the mummy. Had a blast fun movie review could not have been more unfair to the film. Glad I don't believe everything that's in print. Bill Agreed. The reviews are just another person's opinion. The issue is that Tom Cruise just doesn't get the box office draw as good an actor as he is. Oh well, what's next in the Dark Universe 😊

Mr. Cruise's Scientology enthusiasm may affect many critics' opinions. Not really fair, but there it is...
I don't, personally, find Tommy a great actor, but he does get great roles, and generally plays them adequately. Although I'm waiting for the Mummy on video rather than seeing it on the big screen, the trailers indicate that it should be a fine popcorn movie.
YMMV - Boom
PS: And critics' opinions may actually be unintentionally helpful. Our local paper once had a music and movie critic whose reviews were eagerly awaited by one of my coworkers. The coworker commented "If that critic hates the movie, I know that I'll love it! - He's the perfect opposite of my tastes and preferences."

I used to love every Tom Cruise movie. Couldn't wait to see them when they came out. The last few years I am just sick of his movies. I don't find him believable anymore in his roles.
I have passed on many of his recent movies: I don't think that I have seen anything since War of the Worlds.

Most of the time I can separate what I think of an actor as a human being from their work. Some of the time they make that very, very difficult with their choices.

I have had kids for the last 9+ so I don't get to the theater much.

Bill I try to stay away from reviews if I can. Sometimes its impossible though. But they rarely hit home with me. In the new Mummy's case, I haven't seen any reviews. But I haven't really paid attention because to me making another Mummy movie is, well, a big "what the hell for?" The first Mummy movies with Brendan Fraser are on my list among the worst movies ever made. I like B movies and such, and I even get a kick out of bad movies, but the first Mummy movies have no redeeming qualities for me what so ever. They are just bad, with zero entertainment value in my book. Perhaps it's just because I think Brendan Fraser sucks, but for what ever reason, they cross the line from good fun to just plain stupid. So in the end this appears to me just like Hollywood running out of ideas again, having to reboot a crappy series because they no longer have a plethora of decent writers with new fresh ideas. Dunno. But we won't even be renting this new one, Tom Cruise or no Tom Cruise. The Brendan Fraser series ruined it for us. Sad.

You're right about Brendon Fraser, though admittedly, I liked the second of the two installments. He impressed me as an Indiana Jones wannabe without a chance in hell of filling Harrison Fords shoes.

I've got to say that I found the original Mummy movies rather entertaining (but it's not like I was looking for an exceptional plot or great acting). As far as I can tell, the new one is sort of a sequel..... and so really should have been named something like "The Mummy IV" - or maybe "The Mummy Returns - Yet Again - And This Time It's a Girl!". I figure I'll watch it eventually... as with the others, the special effects look pretty good in the coming attractions. We were going to see wonder w. I think that might have been part of the issue, because that's what I wanted I think. A new take on Indiana Jones. But even with all the special effects, they did nothing for me. Actually I think the CGI was so over the top that it contributed to the total stupidity factor. Thanks for understanding. My wife and I discuss movies often, and we don't always feel the same either. I think it's our differences of opinion that makes the discussions interesting. Same here. Although I must say this to be fair about my negative comments on the Mummy series, while I LOVE the first and third Indiana Jones movies, part 4 is not very good, and the second movie literally tops the list for the worst movie of it's genre of all time. Temple of Doom is just bad. Horrible is a better word. Unwatchable. I find it crazy that part 1 & 3 are just SO good, that they completely dispel the fact 2 & 4 aren't very good. When someone says Indiana Jones, I instantly get excited, not negative. That's why I'm hoping they do make a part 5, and they have the original cast Star Trek luck in reverse with the odd numbers being good instead (Star Trek 1, 3, 5 totally suck, while 2, 4 & 6 were great).

I think I read that Spielberg was going through a bitter divorce when he made The Temple of Doom.
It shows.

Temple of Doom was bad, very bad. The Kingdon of the Crystal Skull is one of the worst movies ever made. It was a travesty to defame Indiana Jones like that. If that had been the first Indy movie Harrison Ford would probably not had the success that he did outside of Star Wars.

Trey Yeah, but he's still married to the annoying whining crying screaming bad acting bee-otch that was the co-star of the movie, Kate Capshaw Spielberg. That shows too. I'll bet he actually still likes the movie.
