Yes, the unit is connected to tv and oppo also, even though I hardly use them. I've reinstalled the firmware. So far so good. I will check it again tomorrow to see how it handles and let you know the result.
Everything is ok. Obviously some glitch in the firmware. Reinstallation fixed it. Thank you all for your help and advises.

I think I got carried away. Reinstallation did not fix it. After 3 hours of playing it has happened again. Left channel disappeared. I just turned it off and on again and went back to normal playing. Probably it is some hardware malfunction. Just to mention it is not the source problem. No left channel from tv (HDMI connection), tuner - the same, oppo (HDMI) - the same. Any suggestions?

I realize it's a hassle, but it should go into Franklin And be tested. It's guaranteed....are you in the USA ? Sorry did not read where you are.... Bill

Please give Emotiva a call. Let the experts speak to you and sort this out.

If you swapped the channels and the problem followed the swap (from left to right) you do realize it isn't the XMC and you are now chasing your tail.
I would start by swapping out the cable you moved.

I've swapped left and right outputs. Now the right channel is disappearing. After 15 min it reappeared and settles. That means nothing is wrong with the amps. Is it possible to downgrade to 3.1 and where I could find it for downloading? My bad....missed this along the way. So the dropout is following that one output cable. Just replace THE ONE output cable where the loss is. See what happens, Bill

Ive followed this thread long enough to realize that the OP knows the XMC-1 NEEDS to go back to Emotiva, but being outside of North America he is praying for divine healing. Sorry my friend, thats not going to happen. Everybody here has offered great advice to no avail. Good luck with your XMC-1, I wish you well.

If the problem followed the cable how are you coming to that conclusion? I know. He swapped the cables on the amp side vs swapping them on the XMC side which should have been done since that is the device in question.

My reading of the thread has it as the OP saying that swapping cables made no difference, did I miss something? Edit OH, in it keeps going out.

If the problem followed the cable how are you coming to that conclusion? I know. He swapped the cables on the amp side vs swapping them on the XMC side which should have been done since that is the device in question. I don't think we know that the problem followed the cable. All he said was, he "swapped left and right outputs", and the problem moved to the other channel. As I see it, there's three possibilities: 1) He switched the two amp cables at the XMC-1 output jacks. So the left channel output is now feeding the right amp channel, using the cable that has fed the right amp channel all along, and vice versa. The problem moved to the right channel (i.e., the problem appears on the same output jack, different cable, different amp channel); therefore it is not the cable, and likely *is* the XMC-1. 2) He switched the two amp cables at the amp. The left channel output is now feeding the right amp channel, using the cable that previously fed the left amp channel. The problem moved to the right amp channel (i.e., same output jack, same cable, different amp channel); this tells us it's not the amp, but doesn't eliminate the cable (nor does it eliminate the XMC-1). 3) He completely swapped the cables. The cable that ran from left output to left amp channel now runs from right output to right amp channel. The dropout followed (i.e., different output jack, different amp channel, but same cable that had the issue before), suggesting the fault lies in the cable. I think everyone is envisioning a different one of the three scenarios above. I would guess the OP did (1), first because he said he swapped "outputs", and second, just because he said swapping proved the problem is the XMC-1, so I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt that he thought it through.

One of many things I'm pleased with regarding the XMC (and this is with regards to shipping) is that nearly all the ribbon connectors used within are of the lock in type.
My former processor only had to make the trip from west to east coast. Some quirks in its function had me under the "hood" only to find several of those pressed in ribbons quite loose and one about to fall off.

Well, since all you have suggested that the problem comes from the cables or from the source, I've totally disconnected the unit and connected the source (Gustard x-20) directly to the amps. No dropouts whatsoever. And yes, I live in Bulgaria and there is no way I am sending the unit to Franklin, Texas. I was just hoping that someone might have faced the same odd problem.

Well, you've solved it, it's the cables.

No, I haven't. I've connected also the suggested faulty cables and they work like charm. They are the same brand cables. From dac to XMC-1 and from XMC-1 to mono amps are the same cables (Achtung pure silver XLR). Both pairs are working fluently.

In connecting directly to the amp, I assume you used the same cables? That being the case, then the problem is most likely with the unit and needs to be sent back to Franklin, Tenn. for repair. We have had three clients with similar issues (different variations) all of whom had to send their units back, but they all lived in the states. We even had one unit where the left channel was louder than the right channels for no apparent reason. See if Emo will step up and cover shipping given how far you have to go.

From dac to XMC-1 and from XMC-1 to mono amps are the same cables (Achtung pure silver XLR). Both pairs are working fluently. Looking over your responses it seems the only possibility is that "something to do" with the left cable in question is responsible for the problem. Cables can act just fine for a long time and then suddenly have problems. It is I suppose slightly possible that the particular issue (and there has to be an issue) with that left cable doesn't play well with the XMC-1 - i.e., there is an electrical "fault" with the cable that the XMC-1 will not like, whether intermittently or not, but does not occur when the source connects to the amps directly. The key test that you made was to leave everything in place except swap a left and right cable, at which point the errors moved to the right side - gotta be the cable. I had a problem with a mono (RCA) cable I was using in the path to a subwoofer. All was fine until one day there was a sudden ramp up of hum from the subwoofer, scared me to death until I could quickly turn off the sound. Restarted and all was fine - until many days later and the same thing happened. I replaced the cable ;-) BUT, I didn't throw it out. I ended up using it in a different system, once again to a subwoofer. Same thing happened - worked fine for a long time, then yikes! (Yes, I've tossed that cable now ;-)) Cables fail. Intermittently or whatever. You probably don't happen to have a 5th cable lying around (sounds like they were expensive) but if you could I would replace that left cable with another one, keeping all else in place, and see how that goes.

Again, not clear to me that he swapped whole cables out; I'm thinking he just swapped connections at the XMC's outputs, in which case, the issue moving to the right side would point squarely at the XMC-1. If you read his post, he said that he "swapped outputs"...not "cables".

First I've just swapped the cables from the xlr outputs of XMC-1, then the right channel disappeared. Then I've swapped the entire cables (from xmc-1 outputs and apmps inputs) - left channel dead. Then I've reversed the cables (entire cable from left channel with entire cable from right channel) - left channel - dead. That means than the cables are ok. So with left channel dead I just switch off the unit to stand by and immediately switch it on. Left channel reappears. Such an odd behaviour.
