I've had my XMC-1 for nearly 3 years and never had a single problem. I am only using the reference stereo mode since 99% I am listening music. I don't use Dirac. I don't use subwoofers just dedicated 2ch reference stereo. I only upgrade the firmware when a new one is available. I think my problem started after the last 4.1 upgrade. Upon start the left channel disappears and from time to time appears again. Then I run the test signal in the menu and left and right sound ok. When I go back to normal listening, left channel starts disappearing again. After 15 minutes of listening it settles and no more problems. Has anybody had such experience with his XMC-1? If the firmware is causing the problem is it save to downgrade to 3.1? Or probably some capacitor is giving up and and needs more time (like 15 min to charge). I will appreciate if you share some thoughts and experience. Thank's in advance!

In the meantime I would unplug the processor, then leave it unplugged for a couple of hrs with the power switch in the ON position. May clear a glitch if that's all it is Bill

Sorry to hear of your plight. I've never experienced such a thing or any other problem with my XMC-1. Unfortunately all I can suggest is to call our good friends at Emotiva in the morning. Good luck and please let us know your outcome.
On another note have you ever done a complete shutdown and reboot, of so have you tried unplugging the unit for 10 minutes and tried that reboot as well. Sometimes its the simplest of things, we are so quick to think that its the end of the world wheits the simplest of solutions.

I would swap the channels on the amp to see if the problem follows assuming this is happening on all inputs.

I agree with bootman, more likely to be related to the amp if a warmup solves the issue. Reverse your connections and see if the left still plays up for you.

Do you have "Video Remains On" selected under "Standby" in the Advanced Setup? If so, then you aren't actually fully re-booting what is more or less a computer, when turning on the XMC-1. If so, then every so often you should perform a full start up. If not, have you tried performing a "Factory Reset", if not make sure you Backup your settings first.

He did say that left and right test tone signals are good, which probably brings it back to the processor. After 3 years a factory reset may well clear this up. Backup configuration in place? Plus one saved to a mem stick? Bill

What source are you using for music, and how is it connected? If the source is cutting out, but the test tones are fine, it could be the source -> XMC-1 connection.

For switching the power off of the whole gear I use the power conditioner. Next time I use it simply turn on the conditioner. I only use the dedicated stereo balanced inputs. I've done reset to factory settings but the problem persists. Will swap the channels and let you know if there is a change.

I only use the dedicated stereo balanced inputs. Swap these first. I'll bet this is your culprit.

Each time you have a session with the XMC, it's a cold boot ( no pilot light at all (amber) on the front panel? If so, try leaving the conditiner on 24/7 for a time and test for the same condition. Additionally, you could try reinstalling 4.1. since you said the problem seemed to appear after the upgrade. Bill

I've swapped left and right outputs. Now the right channel is disappearing. After 15 min it reappeared and settles. That means nothing is wrong with the amps. Is it possible to downgrade to 3.1 and where I could find it for downloading?

I've got various sources - from dac, from tv and from oppo. From all of them the left channel is disappearing. There is no point to swap channels from the source. From the dac there are balanced cables, from tv and oppo HDMI. Is it possible to downgrade?

But......don't you want to speak with them (such a pleasure to work with). My unit is the same age as yours. Running 4.1 and I use reference stereo without issues. Just sayin. Bill

It is safe to downgrade to v3.1, but I really doubt that the firmware is causing the issue. It also couldn't hurt to reinstall v4.1 - just in case it's gotten corrupted. Otherwise, it could be some sort of hardware problem, and the timing could be a coincidence.
If re-flashing v4.1 doesn't fix it, I would call support and see if we can figure out what's going on.

I only use the dedicated stereo balanced inputs. New story now. Earlier you only used balanced inputs. Now you use multiple sources?
