That's not too bad actually! I was thinking the same thing, with Emotiva's packaging I wouldn't expect there to be any damage to the XSP-1.

UPS: Thanks for crushing my XSP-1 That's not too bad actually! It was crushed and the bottom totally open. There was internal damage to the Pre and it was replaced by Emotiva. I believe it fell from a good height.

A few months ago my emotiva buddy for life "snacker" and I were both able to purchase some vintage Polk Audio SDA speakers. He purchased some SDA-1's, I purchased SDA-2's both were local so we picked them up. snacker has decided to sell his SDA-1's so while he was over for a visit snacker sent pictures of the speakers to my brother in Chicago so he could eat his heart out. My brother loves those SDA-2's I had some thirty something years ago so when I told him snacker was selling his SDA-1's it took about a week for my brother to call and say he wanted the SDA-1's. Since then he's been trying to figure out how he was going to ship the speakers to Chicago from Las Vegas. I should mention my brother currently works for Fed-Ex as a delivery driver, he exhausted every avenue at work trying to set it up where snacker, and I could just take the speakers to a Fed-Ex location and they would have packaging, materials and boxes, ready for the speakers. He could not make it happen. End game he's driving to Vegas in September to pick them up. He doesn't trust Fed-Ex or UPS, he said better be safe then sorry.
I wanted to add that I think some delivery drivers are lazy! they do have hand trucks but would rather roll a package end over end as opposed to putting the item on a hand truck. What a shame!

I'm not completely willing to blame the guy on the truck... Yes, some are lazy and some few probably deliberately damage stuff for the (perverted) "fun of it." But most try to do their jobs well. As mentioned earlier in this thread, the vast majority of stuff damaged truly wasn't packed well. But when the company store does the packing and the box still gets damaged? THAT's the shipper's fault, period.
And in the shippers' defense, I'm sure that lots of dishonest people actually ship stuff they know is broken to start with and then claim that the shipping company broke it in transit.
International shipping is 10x the problems of domestic (and I'm being VERY conservative with that 10x). In fact, I stopped shipping internationally because 50% of my shipments were lost or broken. It wasn't worth it. And I'll never, ever order anything from outside the country again. The taxes are usurious.
If anyone designs a better shipping system, they'll rule the world. USPS, UPS, and FedEx need not apply.

And I'll never, ever order anything from outside the country again. The taxes are usurious. What taxes? I've never been taxed ordering anything outside the US. I remember when I purchased my Little Dot MKIII headphone amp I saved around $100 buying it direct from the maker shipped from China verses the US located Amazon seller and it was received very quickly too less than a week as I remember. My MHDT DAC shipping from China was also very fast. I have sent a couple of things outside of the country before, FedEX worked well but the United States Postal Service lost a package I shipped outside the country and it was just a total loss for me. The only things I've ever received damaged were used items shipped from within the US and I'd blame the packaging for the damage.

When I sent my UMC200 in for repair, Emo did an excellent job of fixing & shipping, but UPS sent it back to Franklin FOUR (4) times without delivering. I waited 19 days before I finally got it from USPS.

You've been lucky and you've never ordered an expensive item: How much is US customs duty fees? Up to $1,600 in goods will be duty-free under your personal exemption if the merchandise is from an IP. Up to $800 in goods will be duty-free if it is from a CBI or Andean country. Any additional amount, up to $1,000, in goods will be dutiable at a flat rate (3%). Additional fees are charged by the carrier.

I thought Emo had sent me an email saying that they were now doing free shipping?? With the current exchange rate and shipping costs etc there is now way i can afford to add to my setup which is disheartening. Boom , i didnt know there was a cap on personal exemption, i have never spent over 1400 so i guess it never mattered. I have not ever had to pay duty on any electronics i have purchased from teh US. Since Emo changed their shipping policies the price has become cost prohibitive. On a high note everything i have ever had shipped from the US has arrived safe and sound, thanks to Emo's great packaging no doubt.

I thought Emo had sent me an email saying that they were now doing free shipping? Manufacturers can ship internationally and (sometimes) afford to eat the overhead. No such deal exists on used gear shipped by individuals. I bought a $3,200 preamp (via eBay) from Canada and got handed an extra $350 bill for import duties and handling by FedEx. Learned MY lesson...

I've never heard of this before, I think the most I've ever spent for anything shipped from outside the US was $1,300 for my MHDT DAC so it would have been under the $1,600 exemption. I guess I have heard of people in the military outside of the US buying things duty free, I've never really paid any attention to what it was all about though.

I watched the delivery guy roll my two XPA-1s out of the van onto the street. One of the boxes was damaged right there. The driver got defensive and said something like 'so I guess you are going to make a claim'. Snapped a photo right there of him and box. Contacted Emo with photo and they replaced next day.

Well, I aint lyin' to you - exceed that $1,600 and add 10% OR MORE. Most folks DON'T know about customs duties, which is why it's such a rude and expensive awakening. So far as I'm concerned, it's theft - plain and simple.
