Guys the 7703 is now $1499. That's a fairly impressive feature set for the price and he 7703 is a major upgrade to prior Marantz pre-pros save for the 8xxx. So it's no longer a fair comparison in price points for the XMC which is going the other direction in price. I think a good question is whether you'd rather have a MC-700 & xsp-1 for $1800 OR a Marantz AV7703 for $1500?? The 2 channel sonics are clearly better with the Emotiva pair, but for HT probably the Marantz and for apps and atmos the Marantz. Oh and we're talking about MultEQ XT32 vs EMOQ, not Dirac I agree with he OP that there's currently a huge hole for Emo AV pre-pro or I wouldn't be considering the 7703 route. Thoughts? And the 7704 is out with the big bonus of no price increase, ie; still $US2,199. How about that a new model processor with upgraded specs and updated features for the same price as the previous model. Cheers Gary

With Atmos Cheers Gary The RMC will be doing that duty, I just wanted to get the Atmos architecture done and wanted to pick this up to bridge me to the release of the monster...... You should buy my XMC

With Atmos The RMC will be doing that duty, I just wanted to get the Atmos architecture done and wanted to pick this up to bridge me to the release of the monster...... So the 7704 sounds better right now when playing Atmos/DTSX material and will still sound better compared to the RMC-1 when playing Auro material As long as you pay the freight ................. to Sydney And of course you'll have to honour the 25% UFL discount too Cheers Gary

The 7704 will not sound better than the RMC by a long stretch.....it is simply a bridge to the new format ..... I am thinking $1250(shipped) for the XMC-1 will be a fair price.....and UFL is only a deal from Emotiva

Sure, the RMC is in a completely different class at $5000 usd. Further, and to my point, even the XMC is in a different class at 2x the 7703.
If you want to compare to XMC price, then how about a 7703 & xsp combo for $2800? You don't get Dirac, but you do get premium 2ch, and I quite like the combo because you can always replace the av pre as tech evolves, but the xsp will remain awesome.

Edit $2700 for the 7703 & xsp-1 combo not 2800. Saved another $100!

The 7704 will not sound better than the RMC by a long stretch But it doesn't right now, I don't know about you but there's no sound coming from an RMC-1 at my place Plus I'm a bit concerned about the lack of Auro, some of the Auro music that I have heard sounds pretty damn good even played through Atmos/DTSX located speakers. I understand that as I am faced with exactly the same problem right now, I need a bridge. Which after all is fundamentally the thrust of this thread, there are 2 gaps, one huge gap is the pricing, $700 to $2500 or $5000 in the case of the RMC-1. The other gap, almost as huge, is timing, the 7703 filled that gap and now it's the 7704 filling it even better and there might well be a 7705 before the XMC-1 full bottle update is available. A very fair price indeed, all I need to do now is confirm with Emotiva that they will let me do the updates myself. I'll get back to you shortly. Cheers Gary

I have the older 7702 mk2. For me the XMC was not a viable contender as I wanted 11 channels and now that the system is done I really appreciate the overhead channels - even matrixed 11 channel output on non-Atmos content is compelling.
I will agree with another commenter that MultiEQ XT32 to my ears never sounds as good as having the feature off. (I was overall pretty disappointed in Audyssey - the processing often makes the sound muddy to my ears.)
I also have a (now really old and glitchy) Sherwood with the lightweight version of Trinnov processing that I still use only because to my ears the Trinnov processing sounds so amazing - always an major improvement over having the processing off. Unfortunately, current Trinnov enabled products are outside my budget.
I would love to hear Dirac as I read great things about it. I see Dirac + more channels + more attainable price point (as compared to Trinnov) as making the RMC a future option to replace my 7702.

Cheers Gary I can't keep up with all the new models anymore, it's like Marantz and these big brand names have a new pre/pro every 6 months, I wonder if they got bought by Apple , maybe it's more like a new model every year but still if you want the latest processor from them $2199 yearly isn't cheap either, thank goodness I'm still running 5.2 as I don't have a budget to add more speakers to my room on a yearly basis of have the latest tech lol I'm still running a PT-7020C4 with great results but I do miss having the XMC and Dirac. I've owned in this order UMC-1, PT-7030, XMC-1, PT7020C4, Marantz AV7702 and now another PT-7020C4 and hands down the best sound I have achieved in my room was with the XMC-1 and to my ears in my room even the Sherbourn beat out the Marantz. So still worth considering. Cheers Gary

Thanks, I'm seriously interested, I also have an Aussie who wants to sell me his XMC-1 as he is after an RMC-1 too. That deal hinges on Emotiva letting me do the updates/upgrades myself. I'm off to Singapore for a conference for a week, gunna catch up with the Wiz while I'm there as he is in the same situation, more than capable of doing the updates/upgrades, except he has 2 x XMC-1's. Further communication via PM's soon. Cheers Gary
