Now I'm really worried about it... I definitely don't want to go back to a receiver, and I really don't want to shell out another $800 to step up to the XPA-5 either. I sure hope this gets sorted out. What have you learned by swapping channels/speakers around? Will they exchange it and give you another unit to try? If not, there are great UPA and XPA G1/G2 5 channel amps in the Emporium at good prices all the time.

Sorry for the delayed response, It took a fairly considerable amount of playing around to get the new MC-700 dialed in. Back to the amp first... after switching channels around, it was still overheating on the right side. I will be calling emotiva this afternoon to arrange for a return for service.
Now finally, after weeks of waiting, I finally received and tested my MC-700. I purchased the MC-700 because I loved the simplicity and price that accompanied it. However, I have to say after using it... it's probably a few tweaks away from making me happy.
Here's why: 1) There is no HDMI passthru... sometimes i don't want the sound system on, but there is no passthru option in this unit.
2) I have 20/20 vision, and if I'm more than 10 feet away (like when sitting in my listening position) the screen is completely indecipherable.
3) The menus are basic (which is totally fine), but surprisingly very powerful... but navigation is about as non-intuitive as it gets.
I might be asking for a lot with pass-thru, so I'll skip that. Hands down, the biggest issue for me is that when sitting down I have absolutely no idea which input is selected or where the volume is. I cannot begin to describe the inconvenience that it is to have to get up every single time I change the volume. On all of the receivers I have owned or used in the past, when you change the volume the entire display changes to just volume in large characters so you can see it, and then it times out and goes back to the standard display of input and format selected. This is a very basic function, and if the MC-700 we're to do that, I feel like I could read it from my seat without issue. It is instead displayed on only the bottom half of the screen, which makes it too small to read. I hope this gets changed in a future firmware update! This problem is also compounded by the very simple remote that requires me to toggle through modes to change them. I have no problem with the simplicity of the remote either, but it does force me to further rely on the blue blur called a screen. I again have to get up and walk 5 feet closer to see what I am doing. I feel even something as simple as an on screen display of volume (like every receiver I've used since the late 90s has) would also help relieve this catastrophic annoyance. It really is bad enough that I am considering returning the unit, even though I am very much satisfied with the performance of the unit. This coupled within an amp that overheats in an hours time... is starting to push me towards a full on in store return. The performance is fantastic, and it's the only reason I've held on, but I'm running out of justifications by the day.

Did you bother to read through the different MC-700 threads here so far? - There is an OSD but only for 3 of the 6 inputs - The is a HDMI pass-through option, this is even mentioned on the product page - You could use a harmony remote - I personally had no issues with the display of the UMC-200 (same size) in about 10 feet distance To be fair the manual is really crappy and the PROMISED updated manual still isn´t available... I suggest to invest some more time, because the EQ of those units is really good for the money.

Well that makes me feel a lot better. The screen is fine for me at 10 feet too... but another 5 or 6 feet away and it's a complete blur. Unfortunately for me, my stand is on the other side of my livingroom, and there is no other location to set it up closer. I just set this unit up last night for the first time, and have literally an hour and change of use. I will definitely look at these as soon as i get home tonight! The OSD and HDMI pass-through would make life easy with this model. Which inputs are they btw? I must have skimmed over the pass-through on the product page. It really isn't as big of a deal though as being able to see the volume on screen. It will still suck when listening to music with the tv off, but its better than never knowing volume or input. I really don't have a problem with the remote, just not being able to see the display when I use it lol. I may get a harmony remote eventually, but for now the factory one is adequate. No, i havent really researched the preamp and read through posts as i should have, but to be honest I've been very preoccupied with my overheating A-5175.

If you have no need for 4K UHD (with support for HDR), then inputs 4-6 will give you your OSD.

Now these 2 are just crazy talk. Why Emotiva's very own product page describes the MT700 screen and menu as: and As Bolle mentioned, there is a pass through but when you enable it, if the unit is off, it won't be amber so that's how you know it's enabled. The 4k Inputs 1-3 have no OSD, but the non-4k inputs 4-6 do. The OSD missing is because of the chips they chose don't have that capability in them (doh; looks like Doc beat me to it); it was a bit annoying at first but I really just adjust volume by ear anyways. I did find inputs 1-3 handle the HDMI sync better than 4-6, for my non-4k sources. If you switch to 4, you may notice slower/more problems, but then again you may not.

I have the entry level 650 which is now real inexpensive and still as functional as ever. www.amazon.com/dp/B004OVECU0/ref=asc_df_B004OVECU05169685/?tag=hyprod-20&creative=394997&creativeASIN=B004OVECU0&linkCode=df0&hvadid=216591984952&hvpos=1o5&hvnetw=g&hvrand=7115991928040176671&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9031320&hvtargid=pla-350600153443As for not being able to see the screen! Haha, the opera glasses were a great touch! Okay folks, I have the preamp all set now.. but now when I shut it off the light stays blue. Why won't it shut all the way down?

As mentioned, that's how you know pass thru is enabled. It's as "shut down" as it's going to get.

Wow, i completely missed that part 🙃. Thanks guys!
So, a little update... I am sending the A-5175 back next week. Hopefully I get it back quickly! They told me in an email that it's normal for this unit to be over 150°F above the case. How in the world is that suppose to be okay? Anyways, mine is going back because it will auto shut down due to overheating. It's kind of funny because in all of the pictures from CES, the MC-700 was sitting on top of the A-5175... mine would be ready to start a fire if i tried that 😂😂😂
Anyhoo... I'll update this week as things progress.
I purchased my MC-700 and A-5175 on 8/29/17 which was 18 days ago. Between waiting for them to ship me the preamp (missed the promised ship date by a week), and now having to take out the amp, I have gotten to listen to the combination for about 3 hours. Now I'll probably be without my sound system for a week or two while the amp is away. But, I guess at least everything else seems to be working correctly now that the user error has been cleared up a bit lol.

I take delivery of my A-5175 tomorrow after 2 1/2 weeks wait. I hope after all the wait I don't have similar problems. The UPA2 I currently have runs very cool , I'm hoping the same with the 5175. It will be going on La Scala's and a Heresy center for now and UPA2 will be on some KG4's for surround until I can rearrange for 7.1 and utilize all channels on the 5175.

Conclusion to the saga!
On Monday Emotiva called me back to inform me that since I had purchased the amp through a dealer, i should open the warranty claim with that dealer. So, I called the dealer and spoke with the owner to let him know what the issue was, and he said he would call back after he talked to Emotiva. He called me back not even 5 minutes later to let me know that, not only was Emotiva sending me a return ship label for my unit, but that they were sending me a brand new replacement, and they were going to ship it out on Tuesday (it was about 2PM CST on Monday at the time). Not only did they ship it Tuesday as promised, but i received it next day! I got home from work, hooked it up, and voila!!! No more scalding hot amplifier! I honestly don't think I have ever dealt with a better, faster warranty claim. Emotiva was not only very quick to ship the unit, but there were several instances where their reps even returned calls after hours, just to make sure they had touched base with me by the end of the day. So, a thank you is in order to the folks at Emotiva and Deluxe Audio/Video, you have both absolutely won my repeat business! I only wish more places would stand behind the products they build and sell like this...

Okay, I may have spoken too soon. When this thing gets up to temp (still amazes me how rediculously hot it gets), it produces a rediculious amount of static noise. When I first turn it on it sounds beautiful, and has a really low noise floor... but after watching one movie, its static city. Why? ?!!!!!! This is driving me absolutely insane! It sounds soooooooo good, but it has the same static at temp that the last one did. I'm not pushing it hard, -30.5 on the display and it's crazy how loud the static is. What is going on with these amplifiers? I don't know what to do now, it pulls a full on Jekyll/Hyde when it warms up, and goes from the best power source I've ever had to the worst.

Heat coming from same part of amp? AND hooked up the same? Does the heat follow any particular speaker?
Exactly where is the amp located? Try in a completely UnObstructed setup. Not ON another piece. Nothing stacked. Nothing to the sides. Nothing but AIR and not on carpet.
Turn ON and let sit for 20 or 30 minutes. How hot? Run at low to moderate levels for the same time. NOW how hot?
What kind of speaker wire? 18ga or 20ga zip cord? Junk it out and go for at least 14ga lamp cord. Unless you're at 25+ feet and very low sensitivity speakers, you probably don't need heavier. This is a long shot, depending on speaker sensitivity and how loud you like it.
If amp continues to get hot, I'd simply start over with another piece altogether.

Yes, the heat is still coming from the right side of the amp. From what they have told me, that is normal since 3 of the channels are on the right side. The heat does not appear to follow any particular speaker either.
I have the amp sitting in my component stand in a large shelf opening with about 5 inches of clearance directly above it. I had the previous unit on this stand, and had also tried it on my tv stand, with another inch or two, which still resulted in excessive heat. The stand has completely open sides, Front and the half of the rear as well. I have also kept the ceiling fan on for these tests to help keep air moving without blowing air directly at the unit. I watched 2 movies last night at about the -20db range. After the second movie, the air temp directly above the right side was 171°F. I have not tried to just power this unit on and read temp, although I did with the first unit i had. Sitting for an hour, that unit would climb to 130°F with no signal.
The speaker wire i am running is Monster THX1000 to each of the front main channels, and a Stinger 12Ga to the two rears and center channel. The rear runs are definitely in excess of 25 feet, but the speakers have a 95db efficiency rating, so they should plenty of cable. I do occasionally turn it up fairly loud, but I never do so for extended periods, and for the purposes of this test I left the volume in the neighborhood of -20 (using the truegain volume mode). I should have no issue driving such high efficiency 8 ohm speakers. The speakers i am using are the Klipsch Reference 3 system, so they are all 95-98db sensitivity.
The really big issue other than just the rediculous temperature, is the static. When this thing starts to warm up it gets an unbelievably terrible noise floor. It's bad enough that even the fiance asks why there is have so much static. It is completely unbearable and i think, based on my phone calls with Emotiva, that they designed this unit to run really hot. Once the temp gets up over 140 or so (which they have told me numerous times is completely normal), it starts in with the backround noise.
This being my second unit already, I will be calling my dealer again in the morning, and may just return the system tomorrow. I have run out of things to try, and this performance is completely unacceptable. Maybe i should have just saved a while longer and gotten the XPA-5, but this amp has more than enough power, and I thought it'd be a good buy. I'm happy that they have been so easy to work with throughout this ordeal, but I think this unit needs a bigger heatsink on the right side than it provides. I really wish you guys could feel how hot the top, front, and side of this amp are... I've never experienced anything like it. Anyways, we'll see what tomorrow brings. I really like the preamp now, and don't wna take it back. I just need to get this amplifier situation taken care of immediately.
