Waiting to hear if the DEALER can duplicate the issue. Depending on what Emotiva has to say, that will be my next move. I would have taken it in already if it weren't a 3 hour round trip.

We have had a few isolated reports of 5175's running very warm - and getting noisy when they warm up. If you experience this, please call in to Emotiva Tech Support, and we'll help you figure out if your amp needs service, and arrange for it to come in if it does. True but it's been out a while and people normally can't come here fast enough to report the smallest of problems let alone this. Not true: emotivalounge.proboards.com/post/906989/threadI had the same issue. Very hot after 1.5 hours then heavy static/distortion from the speakers. I didnt report it here until the OP posted the same issue.

Without thinking I'd have blown-off a 3 hour round trip. Until I tried to find a Magnepan Dealer. From me, they are 115 miles each way and up basically north of Los Angeles. And since you must go during business hours, you are also stuck with the Traffic.
So, if I want to actually go hear some of the newer Maggies? It's gonna be an all-day ride. I have no idea when the best time to do it is, either. Maybe get a room for the night?
Too bad the SanDiego dealer for 'em is gone, along with a huge and well regarded store with good staffing.

Update!!!
Received a callback yesterday from Emotiva. They said that the issue is being reported back from multiple people, and is an issue involving the bias resistors themselves. They said they do have a fix for the issue, and have emailed me a return ship label to send it back for them to replace those resistors. This has really been a big ordeal, but at least they have acknowledged that there is an issue and are making things right.

Didn't I say BIAS in my first post back on page #1, this thread?
If you knew where to look, the OEM resistors might even be discolored, but they might also be behind the output device board and not easily seen.

Yes, and Emotiva had also told me they suspected it was. The issue hasn't been what was wrong, but why, and how to best resolve it. The reason this took so long to take care of is that they had first assumed i had received a bad unit, so the first attempt to resolve the issue was to send me a replacement unit. Then, when this one was doing the same thing Keith let me know in a PM, as well as posting in this thread, that this wasn't an isolated incident, but that they have had others with the same issue. The main takeaway from this is that since they have received multiple complaints, they now know it to be an issue, and have a fix for it. It's nice because before when I would call in, I'd have someone telling me that it's normal for it to get so rediculously hot, or that it was my fault in the setup somewhere (some people here said the same about the setup). I can't tell you how relieved I am now, and just how anxious I am to get it fixed and back in my system! Thanks to everyone that has followed and posted! This has definitely been an experience. Once this is done, I'll finally get to attack a few other small projects

I had mentioned in my previous post that Emo said it was likely running in Class A mode 100% of the time and not switching (or using) Class B.

"is an issue involving the bias resistors themselves." -That was exactly what I was thinking. Waaay back in 1970's the shop I worked at sold Voxson receivers (Italian?) and everyone sold came back with one or both channels DOA, final transistors fried, customers said it got very hot and had static noise. Factory rep told us there was no fix yet. Not acceptable. Our senior tech decided to re-bias the finals and bingo- problem fixed.
I bought one CHEAP and re-biased and had it for yrs.
edit- btw, the unit was 220/110 volt switchable and the problem only occurred in the 110 volt mode, why I don't know.

I think if the bias remained that high, so as not to slide out of 'A' that the maximum power would also be quite a bit less.

Well, I got the amplifier back from Emotiva last night. I hooked everything up (for the eleventy billionth time), did 3 hours of tv, a movie, and about an hour of music. The amp is running barely above room temperature, and there is absolutely no static! Finally!!

That's great news. My A500 is at their repair center right now for repairs. Hope it comes back working perfect.

Emotiva decided to ship me a refurbished replacement as their service center is backed up. Just received my tracking number from Emotiva.

Have been running it as much and as long as possible to make sure there's no issues. So far the noise floor is zero. No channel displays any hint of static. My setup sounds a million times better now.
