I have been using Tidal for quite a while now and I want to be able to cast lossless audio from my Samsung S8+ and my HP laptop to Chromecast Audio and but it appears that I need some sort of plug in on my phone and laptop to do this. I can listen on the computer in master quality but there is no option to cast. On my phone I can listen in Hifi quality and I have the option to cast but as soon as I do that the Hifi light go off so it appears it reverts back to standard quality to cast. Any ideas?

Once you change the stream of MQA it will revert back to its minimum recording level. You can not cast MQA as far as I know.

CD hoarders have been saying that for years..... Did you read the article? Hopefully it won't go out of business. I use it pretty much exclusively. I still baught used CDs when I lived in Austin a few years back because there were good record stores there, but I haven't been keeping up since then. I would have to find another solution quick if Tidal tanked! I would probably ditch Roon as well, maybe. Oh well, I better start documenting all of my favorite artists so that I have a list when I have to start buying CDs again 😥

Well, we should hope the only streaming service offering cd quality resolution and MQA doesn't fold......
To me it just means the general public may not value these things.
No joy to be found in this potential demise, except my old cds may be worth more.

That said, what do you think of the issue of watermarking that is on some streaming tracks that reportedly causes distortion? I would think that would detract from the quality of that stream versus the CD. Have you experienced this?

What article? What, me worry? lol My post is a link. Thanks for letting us know - wasn't obvious the way ProBoards doesn't underline them automatically. Interesting article. Mark

My post is a link. Thanks for letting us know - wasn't obvious the way ProBoards doesn't underline them automatically. Interesting article. Mark The problem with Proboards is they make the link color nearly identical to the regular text color so I bet many links go undetected. In the absence of them doing something sensible like either underlining the link or making it an obviously different color, link posters may have to manually change the color when typing their post.

What article? What, me worry? lol ccording to the report, Tidal has been bleeding money steadily after losing $368 million NOK (around $44 million US) in 2016, with original investors including Jay-Z having lost over half a billion NOK (around $60 million) since they bought the service from the Schiibsted media group in 2015. And all this comes after Sprint’s $200 million investment into Tidal in earlier this year. The report continues to say that Tidal expects the company to reach profitability by mid 2018, and a statement to Gizmodo from Tidal said “We have experienced negative stories about Tidal since its inception and we have done nothing but grow the business each year.” Dagens Næringsliv’s report goes on to dispute Tidal’s subscriber numbers, which based on internal reports found by DN stands at 1.2 million users, far fewer than the 3 million user figure claimed by the company in January. DN also cites numbers from Midia Research which claims that Tidal is responsible for less than one percent of the 100 million worldwide streaming subscribers. Since Tidal’s bonkers start back in 2015, the company has had a string of issues such as the revolving door that has been its CEO position, the overvalued $56 million Jay-Z originally paid to buy Tidal, and beefs with Prince’s estate over copyright infringement, so it’s probably not a shock that the company could be having serious financial troubles too. Earlier this year, when we ranked all the big streaming services based on how screwed they were, Tidal came in at #3. And if Dagens Næringsliv’s report is true, it seems our original predication could end up being spot on. [Dagens Næringsliv]

What, pray tell does all this have to do with tons of cd or higher res music available for $20 (or in my vet’s case) $12 per month? Think I’ll write a support check like PBS asks for.....

That's why I took a clue from Hemster and started putting text into my links that makes it more obvious (start them all with "--->", end them with "<---", and put "CLICK HERE TO GET TO THE LINK" - or something silly like that between the arrows). I figure that hemster is a pretty darn smart (for an ape) - so I should just follow his lead. Mark

Here is my current understanding of the situation: (Note that I keep up on the situation via various articles - I do NOT have any secret inside information here.)
Spotify currently has the largest number of subscribers. Spotify is generally agreed to have the best overall selection of music. Spotify currently offers ONLY lossy streaming of music. Spotify has been losing money; and losing more money each year; this is claimed to be because "costs, and largely licensing costs, exceed revenues". Spotify has been testing a new "CD quality" lossless "premium" version of their service (it is not widely available yet).
Tidal currently has fewer subscribers than Spotify. Most people seem to agree that, while Tidal has a good selection of music, it is NOT as good as Spotify's selection. Tidal is currently the only major supplier of "CD quality and higher" streaming music. Tidal also has been losing money; and losing more money each year; also supposedly because of high licensing costs.
My prediction is this: Sometime soon Spotify will start offering their new premium service - in hopes that the higher subscription prices will "put them in the black". Assuming this works out, Spotify will then have: the most subscribers, the best selection, CD quality music, and a working business model. At that point, Spotify will take most of Tidal's customers from them. At THAT point, Spotify will probably merge with, or simply buy, Tidal. (Currently neither Tidal nor Spotify has a business model that works; Spotify has room to improve their business model; as far as I can see Tidal does not.) (And, sorry guys...... if MQA mattered to enough customers to make a difference, then Tidal wouldn't still be bleeding money..... )

Thanks, Keith - it's good to see that Tidal is forcing Spotify to up their game for those of us for whom streaming beyond 320kb matters.
