My problem is that I really like my old MPS-1 and don't have any way to know whether it would be useful to "upgrade" to an XPA Gen3. On the other hand, when I tried out those Hypex NC400 Kits on my Legacy Focus SEs, they did sound like they had "punchier" bass with "blacker" blacks ... so maybe I should be considering an amplifier "upgrade" ... :-) Casey

New gear will tickle your fancy ! Guarantee ( in a Louisiana Cajun/Creole accent) You know if you need to upgrade and yes there are "blacker" blacks to be had, We all know what you mean. Sounds like we are talking about TV's.

Hey....... We've sold a LOT of XPA Gen3 amps..... so where ARE all those forum reviews? To be honest, we're more interested in what our customers think of them anyway Completely satisfied with mine. I'll eventually add a third channel and sell my lone remaining XPA-1L. Great dynamics and low noise and really makes the Airmotivs sing. And cooler running than even my old XPA-5 and XPA-2.

You know and I know that Gen 3 is a winner Geebo. There is nothing wrong with that switching power supply. Lonnie knows what he is doing and Dan is not going to let an Amp get in the wild unless it rocks. They have stumbled on some things but Amps ain't one of them. geebo you are out of this world dude !

I had just hoped that one of the sites which had reviewed the MPS-1 would also review the XPA Gen3 so I could compare the review measurements, etc. Unfortunately there weren't a whole heck of a lot of MPS-1 reviews and there are a lot fewer XPA Gen3 reviews. Casey If you need a new amp then you can not go wrong with Emo's new gear. I have made comments that reviews have not been what they should for the Gen 3. Emotiva is killing the competition with these multi channel amps that give big bang for the bucks. We have all known it for awhile and you don't see the others lowering there prices. Advertisement dollars are big for some companies and the consumer pays for that. Emotiva prices may have gone up but you get solid performing gear from them for real life prices. I looked at other amps and tried to reason why I would pay big dollar and I could not bring myself to believe I would get any better sound. Maybe different, but not better. Kiss, or keep it accurate. What goes in is amplified and comes out the same. KeithL preaches that all the time. I believe it.

Hey....... We've sold a LOT of XPA Gen3 amps..... Hey....I'm not denying it. Dunno. There is no denying, these new Gen 3 amps do not have the same forum conversation factor of the Gen 1 and Gen 2 amps. Hell, we spent MUCH more time discussing the Gen 3 amps before they came out than after, and a lot of time discussing the cool ways you could order the amps configured. But performance reviews? Very little. Perhaps it's simply because the people buying them aren't forum goers? As for people like me, I already own an XPA-2 and XPA-5, so I have no need to "upgrade" per say. Add on, yes, upgrade, no. For someone like me who owns the older models, I don't really see the Gen 3 as an "upgrade" anyway.

I've had the XPA-5, XPA-2 and XPA-1L and they have nothing on the XPA-2 Gen3 I have that I can discern. I'd say it's at least the equal of my old XPA-2 which I felt was more dynamic than the XPA-5.

Honestly the Gen 3 don't hold a candle to the previous models. I even went with a basix a7 vs gen 3 and no it wasn't cost directed but the heavy transformer vs the sps. Not being able to track down the review sample is deceptive and would have been easier for Emotiva to lie about something else. Yes it's a lie and they know it. Blinders off people.

The Gen3 is at least the sonic equivalent of my old XPA-2 and has the advantage of being considerably lighter and cooler running. Heck, my XMC-1 runs hotter than my XPA-2 Gen 3. Call it a wasted good idea if you like but I beg to differ.

If it doesn't wow you, just return it within the window. Infinitely better (and more fun) than trying to interpret the tea leaves from other reviewers.

I've had the Gen 3 in a four channel configuration for almost a year now. My speakers have a fairly flat response and are to my ears pretty revealing. No coloring at all save maybe a little warmth. But overall what you put in Is what you get out.
The Get 3 Amp is no different. In Some set ups it might come off as clinical but in my set up it's great. It's been able to reproduce all kinds of music without issue over a wide range of volumes and the louder it goes the better it sounds. Its got endless power and though the ventilation is about the same, it runs MUCH cooler than my receiver which is acting only as a pre-amp at this point. I've been more than satisfied with my Amp as well as my experience with Emotiva as a company. I called them direct to order & the gentleman I spoke to was great, even the emails afterward were prompt & pleasant.
The only things I could nit pick would be the smell of the amp when it was new (kinda weird) but took a while to burn off. And after it goes through it's soft switch turn on cycle there is an audible "click" from the speakers once the LED's turn blue.
Other than that it sits quietly in my listening space, waiting to be turned loose on my speakers- grab them like a bully at school and turn them upside down for their lunch money. It's great.

I forgot to mention, I have not owned any previously generation Amps from Emotiva so I can not compare there, however I have always had toroidal electronics. Older receivers or my dads vintage set up back home. None the less I can't place my finger on much of a difference in sound between the new SMPS and toroidal. Maybe a bit more forward or more of an attack in the sound? But again this could he the infinitely variable voltage rails that can give power on demand in real time when called for. Increasing the dynamics a bit and creating one heck of a head turning sound.

Because I know how much it costs Emotiva to offer that service and I don't want to take advantage of it unless I'm fairly sure that I'll want to keep them. I was very impressed with the difference between my MPS-1 and the Hypex NC400 Kits I bought for my friend. As I said before, it felt like the Bass was "punchier" and the "blacks" between notes "blacker" ... But that was an extremely short test. I did consider buying 7 x $700 of them but that seemed a bit extreme for the surround and Front Porch Zone2, so 3 x $700 is more likely to be a real option. (They don't have 12V triggers but they draw so little when not in use, that's probably not an issue.) I also "considered" Bruno Putzeys' (the inventor of the Hypex Ncore technology) Mola-Mola Kaluga, but at $16K/pair, that's an even bigger reach ... but they have been reviewed quite well ... Casey

Sorry to stick my nose in here but I find the question irrelevant. 😮 The cost is part of their marketing plan and falles within their parameters of risk. The return rate most likely is low or they wouldn’t continue to offer it. IE: there must be great value in offering a no question ask return. When I first experienced Emotiva I took them up on their offer, twice. Yes, I did feel bad but thats their business model to getgear into costumers hand. I finally purchased and kept my XPA-5, Ive eventually made many more purchases. They found a loyal costumer in me because A) they offered to let me try a product they are proud of and they’re willing to let me put it against any other product and B) they stand behind the quality of their produo C) great customer service D) they build some great gear at a value price IMHO

I think that there's an understanding that you at least think there's some likelihood that you'll keep the product. I I can't offer that since I haven't heard of any existing comparison between the MPS-1 and the new XPA Gen3 amplifiers ... And to answer the earlier question: it costs quite a bit. There's all the costs of shipping the product (inventory, order fulfillment, shipping, insurance, etc.) and then the cost of taking the product back and having to resell it at a discount as "refurbished" (once a product is shipped "new" is can never be resold as "new" again). Casey If your intention is to keep it, if you like it after comparison, then there is no problem. It's only being prick-ish to take advantage of an try-it-before-you-buy-it offer if you know before hand you won't keep it regardless. The program is specifically designed for cases like yourself; you can afford it, you want to give it a try, you'll keep it if you like it, but you want the ability to return it if you find it a downgrade or whatever.
