Have Tekton DIs in a summer place and the 5-channel T1/C1/E1 set in the winter one. Spend 6 months in each and get used to one set, then go to the other. The T1s are so good I thank Rory every time I listen. They are connected to an all Emotiva XMC-1/XPA-5 system running JRiver. Then, when I go to the other place, I compare the DIs (Emotiva monoblocks, RME converter, JRiver) and think "these speakers are several steps up from the T1s." As good as the T1s are, the DIs are at another level. The most striking differences are in the dynamic control, mid-range clarity, and overall "live" feeling. Just my 2 cents worth.

Agreed on the T1s. They sound fantastic and are an exceptional speaker for their price point. That's the fun with different speakers. I really dislike threads about "which speaker is better at"... Yes there are speakers with better quality drivers that reproduce music with more transparency etc but at every price point, you get a good selection with a variety of different sonic qualities. Sometimes I go to the basement theater and crank up music on the JTR 215s. They are a great theater speaker but not necessarily what I'd call a refined music-based speaker. Still, the horns are killer for live performances and the bass is other worldly. Cool to feel a kick drum punch you in the chest. I can go upstairs to the 2 channel room and listen to the Legacys which are super revealing, very sweet mids and clean bass. A little something for everybody out there. Scott

Those Martin Logan's are really nice speakers. I think the Tektons would be a sideways move. The tweeeters at the beginning have a slightly harsh tone. Over hundreds of hours they mellow out. Having said that the Tektons really bring the volume. There is a rocking deal on Tekton Pendragons in this thread especially if you're local. emotivalounge.proboards.com/thread/51522/christmas-speaker-clean-outAny tweeter that requires over a hundred hours to "mellow out" is a poorly designed tweeter in my opinion.

I'm not sure that's accurate. My Adam's (ribbon tweeter) definitely required serious time before they sounded great, and now they're awesome. I bought 4 pairs over a span of many months, and each time I added another pair, I couldn't believe how awful the new ones sounded compared to the old ones. I didn't keep track of hours, but I definitely wouldn't agree with anyone calling them "poorly designed"!

Call me confused, but WHY would you buy a pair of speakers if they sounded so bad compared to your old ones? When I buy, I'm usually upgrading the sound quality, not downgrading it.

The speakers (all 8 of them) are used in a digital sampler. I wasn't upgrading speakers, I was adding to my existing system. I heard them live in a store before buying the first pair and loved the sound. Bought my first 2 and set them up at home, thought: "eh... nothing special". But overtime I thought I was just adjusting to the sound as I ended up liking them and buying a second pair, which was when I discovered that speaker break-in is a "real thing" tm

Call me confused, but WHY would you buy a pair of speakers if they sounded so bad compared to your old ones? They're the same speaker. They only sounded worse until they broke in, then they sounded the same.

Just a warning from a DI owner, if you audition them you will probably end up also owning them. Gsand, what are you powering the DIs with? They were powered by a pair of XPR-1's (sold) and will be powered by the DR-2 that I have on order and hopefully on the way to me...
