The podcast was moderately encouraging though Big D can be so vague while giving us semi good news. Here hoping in the next 3 to 4 weeks .

Just trying to understand what you meant by saying it wasn't meant to be state of the art. You were referring to the feature set and not necessarily the performance of what it does. Have I got that right? In terms of having all the latest features I would say it wasn't meant to be SOTA. In terms of performance it was and is. And some of it's features are SOTA. Like it's RCS. If state of the art is a bunch of useless features that get ignored and unused until they are not updated by the manufacturer then i dont want state of the art. Myself i want my prepro to do exactly what the XMC does. I have a big 2 channel setup and if i want to hear it in the basement or whatever i turn it up. In the summer is were outside i turn it up simple. I have 5.1 in the bedroom with a denon with a bunch of crap i dont use. I got a great sounding piece of equipment from emotiva thats trouble free for a decent price and to me that is state of the art. I know i ranted a bit before christmas but i was just havin a bad day. I will wait, go over to AVS and see all the fun they have with the AVM60. You buy boutique you have to put up with some crap now and then. I am going to have to check out the AVS forum, I have had an AVM60 since almost launch and I have not had one single issue. Its fully passing 4k/60/hdr, atmos, dtsx, I did have to wait for the dtsx update but that was it.

Please. Won't someone kill this thread? It serves absolutely no purpose. The hardware/software isn't here now. Either that fits with peoples' needs or it doesn't. No amount of belaboring, cursing, wishing, praising, etc. will change the schedule. Just live with what you've got or make another decision. It really isn't life or death.

I understand the frustration for those who would like to have 4K switching but have to wait if they want it with the XMC.
I just went back to the product page to see if anything is new since I have not been for a while (no changes yet)
Anyway If down the road, that ultra HD board does become available as a self install, I will take one.
I don’t yet have an ultra display, however, it’s inevitable that when my current monitor blows, that will be the route to take.
I’m no stranger to popping the hood on an AV processor, so it would be great for me, and then have a valid reason for opening the unit and also making sure everything is tight from the original 2014 shipment.
My former processor was a Sunfire, that worked beautifully, but had a number of pressed in ribbon connectors that I found to be loose on an inspection.
Most of the XMC’S happily are the locking type, making them much less likely to come loose in transit.

The Atmos board will not be because they need to test it in the unit.

Nuff said from me.

That's what you are suppossed to do if you can't wait. XMC-1 up for sale? No, I was skipping a step and waiting for the XMC-1 to be Atmos capable before I bought one. Were told in 2016 it would be ready Spring 2017, then summer, then fall. No more sales and I don't have a 40% off card. A good deal on the Marantz arose so I just decided to get off the Merry-Go-Round for now. We'll see how the future rolls.

besides if you REALLY want dirac and cant wait for the constant moving target...you can get a minidsp outboard dirac solution and use ANY atmos 4k avr with preouts..it will sound as good as the xmc-1...i know i have had both in my room
dirac imho is the secret sauce to making the xmc-1 as good as it is

Dirac IMO is better then Audessey or any of the other proprietary room correction systems out there except maybe for Anthem's room correction. A friend of mine has the Anthem pre/pro and it's very close to Dirac if not equal. The XMC-1's internal components, boards, parts, etc are of high quality, well laid out. and well implemented. Not always true for the mainstream manufacturers. Have you seen the innards of some of the receivers out there?

I have had an AVM60 since almost launch and I have not had one single issue. I have an ergonomics question on this unit that bugs me. From what I read in Sound & Vision (a long time back so going from memory here), have seen on the front panel, and seen on the remote, it doens't appear that direct input selection is available in any way shape or form (except for maybe an after market remote like Harmony maybe). From the looks of things, you hit an input button, which brings up the inputs, and then you have to toggle through them to pick the one you want. Is this the case?

I will double check, I have never had to use it with the front panel or factory remote as I use a URC remote and have it programmed to go to the direct input I need.

dirac imho is the secret sauce to making the xmc-1 as good as it is That was not my experience. I came from a Marantz with pre-outs into an XPA-2 driving my speakers....when I upgraded to the XMC-1 (Without using Dirac) the change was not only noticeable, it was measurable. This was in Pure Direct mode on the Marantz, and in Direct and Reference Direct modes on the XMC.
