I figured that they would be lighter! Lots lighter.
I’m hoping that my prejudice is wrong but I’ve been unable to imagine the DR-1’s even coming close to the performance of the XPR-1’s assuming a level playing field all things being equal. Prove me wrong so I have to buy a pair!!! Lol
Enjoy the amps!

Hallo, hallo? Is this silence caused by constant listening and admiration of the new Xpa DR Share your impressions. I'm still wondering if it's worth replacing Xpa1 gen2 with Xpa DR1

It's all set up in the man cave all right, but my wife and daughter don't share my listening habits and volume level preferences! I'll need to run ARC also on the AVM60 with the new amp in place.

Had a DR-2 on pre-order since day 1 and still nothing... Whats going on Dan? Hi, new to this. don't know etiquette, sorry in advance. I have a pair of AG 3.5. I bought new 4 years ago. New Sherbourn PT-7030 pre/pro; 2 AG AV Ref for surround and one AG AV ref Centre. New Emotiva XPA-5 to drive 5 channels for now. Using regular HP laptop for downloaded Flac files. No bass at all. Hooked up JBL 8" sub to fool my ears with the bass for now. No calibration or adjustment. Looking for power amp to drive front sp for 2 channel music listening. Options so far: 1. Used Spectron Musician III Mk II with ceramic fuse upgrades from factory Can $2800 (likely 10+ years from a shop) 2. Used 2 Jungson JA-50 Monoblocks Class A Luxury Edition Can $2000 (20+ years, private) 3. Used McIntosh MC2300 recently tested, cleaned, calibrated by a montreal stereo shop $3500 (30+ years from a shop) 4. Used 2 Emo XPR-2 $2500 (fairly new Canucks Mkt) 5. New Emotiva XPA-DR2 $2500 (NEW) Any input is welcome. Thank you in advance. Expectations - listen to HIFI acoustic, vocal, jazz or classical (fairly loud) - movies, don't really care about quality RT

Hello, all!
I've received my XPA-DR2 today. It's still breaking in ... the stage is opening and the details are showing up. It's plugged to a Emotiva PT-100 using RCA connections. Tomorrow I'll switch to Cambridge Audio DacMagic Plus and XLR cables, if there will be noticeable difference I'll order the XSP-1 Differential Reference Preamplifier
Before that I had one A-300 bought in 2017 and I bought and returned a second one a week ago (it was buzzing and squealing like mad with random occasions ... I tried two distinct pieces and both were making noises). The bi-amping and bi-wiring with two A-300 opened a lot the stage and everything was airy. After returning the A-300, the old one seemed to sound dull so I decided to upgrade to one mighty amp.

That's why I'm such an advocate of 'goals' and 'llstening'. You WILL go down a few blind alleys, I know I did, but the recovery is what's important. Cheers:

Ok, I have to ask... I have the XPA-2, forget the generation, bought in 2008 or 9... It still works flawlessly, driving a pair of Emotiva ERT 8.3 towers. I have the matching XPA 3 running the Emotiva ERM as a center, and the ERD surrounds. No issues with any of the gear, still rocks the house... What is the game changer here? Why should I pull the trigger on the DR?

Why should I pull the trigger on the DR? I went from the Gen 2 XPA-2 to my current DR-2 (powering my Mirage OMD-28 speakers). Honestly the difference is small if noticeable at all. If you are happy with the XPA-2 (Gen 1 or 2) I can't think of a good reason to buy the DR-2. After I bought the DR-2 I then upgraded my SR7009 to the AV8802A pre/pro and that made a world of difference over the amp upgrade.

Why should I pull the trigger on the DR? Based on your system, I would have to say that there is no good reason to consider the DR-2 over the very fine XPA-2 that you already own. The biggest benefactor (or "game changer") of the DR-2 is its "true" differential design. To get a basic understanding of what a differential balanced design brings to the table, I'd recommend watching Lonnie's video on the XSP-1 Gen2 found HERE. The real "meat" of the subject begins at the 1:35 mark, but I'd just suggest watching the whole video. For those of us who already own deferentially balanced source components and preamps, then it makes sense to invest in an amp of the same design. If you don't own similar components, you may simply be paying for twice the amount of parts with no real benefit to your system as a whole. This is not to say, however, that the "Gen3" amps will or will not show an improvement, in some way, over what you already have. But having owned an original XPA-2 myself (BTW... based on your DOP, yours is a "Gen1" too), I would recommend keeping it. Your system consists of exactly the same components that I purchased when I started my relationship with Emotiva back in 2009 (XPA-2, XPA-3 and the original "Reference Series" speakers), so I'm very familiar with what you have. There's my $.02... P.S. Edit: FWIW, I currently have a DR-2 on order. Not because I think it will be better than my current XPA-1s, but because it gives me the same benefits in a single chassis and weighs 107 pounds less than a pair of XPA-1s. To quote Danny Glover... I'm getting too old for this s#!t.
