Right, a fully upgraded XMC-1 Gen 2 at $3000, and an Gen 3 for $3500. The XMR-1 is too far away to be worrying about, but I’d be expecting around $4K. Where are these definitions? XMC-1 gen 1 XMC-1 gen 2 XMC-1 gen 3 ? I was thinking along the lines of; XMC-1 gen 1 = the original 1.4 board ($1200. To $1999) Somewhere in here the 1.4 board was replaced for a single 4K HDMI ( $400 and free upgrade to all 4K out HDMI XMC-1 gen 2 = new V3 board to add all 4K HDMI ($500) XMC-1 gen 3 = V3 board and Atmos ($500 by itself or $400 when done together with V3 upgrade) XMR-1 = V3 board with 8 HDMI 4K AND Atmos speakers out. This is 11 powered channels and two subs out RMC-1 = 7 4K HDMI and Atmos with 16 channel XLR out, no amp and priced at $5K picture shows 13 channels plus three subs out This is what I recall, right wrong or different. It would be VERY kind if an Emotiva executive would clarify my stab at my recollection. -The XMC-1 Gen 1 was never released (would have had silver trim for Bonzo) -The XMC-1 Gen 2 is what we have now, as far as I know there are no official designation for having upgrades -The XMC-1 Gen 3 was announced to be the the new box with 4K & Atmos built in, Balanced L/C/R, all XLR outs (though nobody likes the name and most think it should be called the XMC-2) Any other designations for the XMC-1 are just musings about the boards by bored board members. 😏 There’s another whole thread about the RMC-1 ‘flagship processor’ so let’s leave that out of this, as well as the XMR-1 ‘receiver’.

Hi Nick, the problem with your pricing comparison (based on my very dodgy memory) is that the original (that is Gen 1, silver trims are irrelevant) promised" price was $1499. When released that went to $1999. Then it went to $2499 when the distributor model was introduced. The Gen 2 is referred to by Dan as including the original 4K HDMI upgrade, which was free to some owners. Then the upgraded 4K board ( which was also free to some owners) and the Atmos board. Which combined they are supposed to cost $800. So the Gen 2 cost could be $2499 + $800 = $3299. If the Gen 3 costs $3,499 that's only $200 more than many paid for the Gen 1 and Gen 2 plus upgrades. Doesn't seem all that fair to me. Cheers Gary

More power to Emotiva for bringing the price down. Early adopters do subsidize the cost a bit, that's the way these things go. I'd hate to see Emotiva jack up the price just to keep those who bought in earlier happy. Besides, I doubt there are many people who will end up paying $3,299 total for the upgrades when all is said and done. I know I'll be well under that. That's part of the reason, despite some grumbling on my part, I haven't stepped away from the XMC-1. As an early adopter, I paid such a reasonable price for what I get. I think most owners who paid $2,499 for the XMC-1 get the V3 board for free. The only people who paid full price and don't get it for free are people who got the V2 board for free. I could see them being unhappy, but I doubt it's a big portion of the population.

Stupid question - are there any photos out there of what the upgrade module looks like? For either this, or the Atmos board...?

It’s no different than any other consumer electronics purchase, the next year model is usually more feature rich and it sells for the same price as the last year model. Really the XMC-1 @3499 represents an upswing in price which is unfortunately pretty consistent with Emotivas pricing in general over the past few years.

I never noticed they went to a new supplier for the boards. Did they stop dealing with mds? It looks like jade is in Franklin Tennessee and has an almost non visible website, is this an emotiva subsidiary?

They're doing it in house; Emotiva is a subsidiary of Jade Design (I believe Big Dan is the CEO of both).

Jade Design is the name of Emotiva eBay Store as well. I got my last Emotiva XPA-200 out of their eBay Store for $275 shipped. It was brand new, never opened.

Jade is the parent company that Emotiva resides under.

I am wondering if there is anyone here, or elsewhere, who might estimate/guess how many of these boards Emotiva might sell?
I know at least two wait lists exist. First, there is the DIY group, then the group (including me) who will opt to have the Wizards Of Franklin do the install.
Any guesses? 50? 500? 5000?
I also wonder if the frustrating (for us and for them) difficulties bringing this V3 board to market, and the anxieties surrounding the upcoming ATMOS board, might cause Emo to rethink their vaunted modular upgrade policy? That would be too bad, but somewhat understandable.
