I just got a pair of E-1's for surrounds. I'm disappointed to see they don't have 5 way binding posts. I was hoping to just plug the banana plugs on my speaker wires into the ends of the binding posts. It looks like the banana plugs are going to be a tight fit into the holes towards the bottom of the posts. My speaker wires are stranded 10awg. I doubt they will fit in the holes if I cut off the banana plugs.

Have you called Emotiva? Mark

The hole in the post is either too small or the body of the banana plug is hitting the bottom of the indented circle area where the post are located...or a combination of both, I can't tell for sure. The banana plug only goes about 1/4" into the hole and is not secure. Do all the Airmotiv speakers have these same posts? It's just a spring loaded post with one hole located near the bottom.

It's common that binding posts have a plastic cap in the top hole where the banana plug needs to plug into, you will need to pry out the plastic cap before a banana plug can be inserted.

That's what I thought too. I took a small screwdriver to try and remove it, but it's just a black or red paper sticky. It's solid metal underneath (no hole). I'm tempted to replace the binding posts with 5 ways but I don't want to violate the warranty.

The red and black plastic caps at the top need to come off first to use banana plugs in the traditional fashion. It appears that the binding posts are spring loaded. You could always compress the binding post and stick the banana plug through the hole on the side of the binding post. The spring should hold the banana plug in place. As long as you are making solid contact you should be fine.

Assuming you are pushing the button down to open up the whole then inserting the banana plug - I would assume it would work. If not, could you easily switch to pins?
Another question, are these standard single banana plugs or are the the type with 2 connected by a rigid body? That's the only thing I would imagine would interfere with the bottom of the "indented circle" as you note.
Maybe you could post a picture of them inserted.

the posts really are not made for bananas unlike their big brother the airmotiv B-1's.

Done smartly a simple and elegant solution without going crazy 😜 Bill

I saw the Sewell pin connectors, those are the Silverback series (set screw type), I really like the deadbolt series - nice tight stable connection (I know, I'm picky). I bought a set of Monster pin connectors, they look just like the Sewell deadbolts (probably made by Sewell for Monster). I hate buying Monster products, they're so over priced, but if they work out, I'll be happy. Do all the Airmotiv speakers have these same binding posts? I'm disappointed Emotiva would use them, their other products I have use much higher quality. I'll attempt to post a picture of the Monster connectors..

Even the rigid type banana plugs should work with the method I described. Even thought the wire itself is 10 AWG, the banana should fit in the hole of the binding post.

Here are the pics. You can see that the body of the banana plug is hitting the speaker and they also aren't in the holes on the binding posts very far at all. The red and black on the ends of the posts are just paper stickies, there are no holes underneath. Do all the Airmotiv speakers have these same binding posts??

I am guessing that they anticipate just using raw wire since they are surround speakers and figure most will mount them flush to the wall.

Do they not fit in like this? No, there are no holes on the ends of the binding posts, it is SOLID underneath the red and black stickies. There are no plastic inserts, no nothing to remove. You cannot push banana plugs into the ends. And I do not want to just insert bare stranded wire into the holes, that's just asking for trouble.

Thanks for sharing the pix. That makes the problem quite clear now. The housings on the cables you have are fairly large in diameter (relative to some Emotiva cables and monoprice cables I have). So, when trying to use those - they are hitting the speaker. It looks like your options are: bare wire, use pin-type connectors, use something like in this link ---> CLICK ON THIS! <---, or return the speakers and get something else. You mention in another post you think using bare wire would be "asking for trouble". Why do you think that? I've done that for years and never had an issue. Also, I don't know if all Airmotiv speakers have those types of binding posts. You could call Emotiva and they could tell you. From looking at the website, it doesn't appear the center and towers have those type of binding posts, though.
