Any reason not to buy a XMC-1 for a non-atmos 7.2 dedicated theater? What alternatives should I be considering?
I'm weighing my options and if a nicely priced gently used XMC-1 becomes available I am considering buying it.
Currently I have an Onkyo TX-NR818 which I'm using as a pre/pro only to an Emotiva XPA-3 (running the fronts and center) and an Emotiva 5 channel running the 2 rears and sides. I have 2 RBH subs as well.
I've never been completely happy with audyssey xt32.
FYI: I have a xmc-1 in my separate audio area and enjoy it quite bit for 2.2 channel music.

I say switch them around and try the XMC in your HT setup, I loved my XMC-1 and wish I didn't have to sell it at the time due to unforeseen financial issues

I should say I also have a Parasound P5 and Emotiva PT100. However, one of the things I've found out is that I love watching Blu-ray concerts in 2.2 channel. So my preamp really needs HDMI and needs to be able to to decode HD Audio. So while the PT100 and P5 are great preamps i found out that they don't meet all of my needs. I'll probably either use one in my office or I'll sell them.

Atmos/DTSX in a 7.2 dedicated theatre would be fantastic, object oriented sound, clearer, more distinct, precisely placed sound effects with the added advantage of being able to control the dialogue in DTSX. Not the simplistic "adjust the volume of the centre speaker". The bottom line, ceiling speakers are not necessary to take advantage of Atmos/DTSX.
Cheers Gary

I was reading that as well over the last few days. Bummer that this isn't available yet for the xmc-1.

The xsp-1 sounds the same as the xmc-1 for a 2ch system. Unless you use direct for room correction.

The better question is it worth the $$$ for the difference between the two? I think the difference will be noticeable so the answer is yes.

"do it, do it, do it..."
Seriously though...the XMC-1 as it exists is a great multi-channel device. Love mine. And, it's great for 2 channel also. My only holdup in saying to go XMC-1 in this scenario is wondering...if you waited for the XMC-1 Gen 3...what else would it bring that might be worth it.
